In a way I agree, but Sasha, being who he is, what he's done; can do whatever he likes as far as I'm concerned. Watching him spin was unbelievable and inspiring. Seeing him pace back and forth, play with the mixer, put the vinyl on the deck and find the beat...it was incredible and inspiring; how well he knew each of his tracks, knew exactly at what moment to kick the bass in, or to pull the highs out.

But, after DJ'ing for so many years, the man's gotta move on. He's proved himself as a DJ and as one of the best mixers around, with only a select few DJ's who can compare to him.

I wouldn't know.

Using final scratch u still use vinyl (there are special time-coded vinyls for that). U connect ur laptop, where you have the corresponding software, with the mixer (you "route" the signal through the final scratch box) and you can play the tracks on the laptop with the vinyls

Posted by Krypton on Dec-26-2004 02:18:

being a DJ is hard work, why not make it easier by just pushing some buttons and clicking a song in WMP?

Posted by Tayfoon on Dec-26-2004 06:51:

PvD uses Final Scratch which is completeley different
Ive seen Filo & Peri play from Final Scratch, just like normal mixing without the hassel of the record bag.

The laptop thing that Sasha and G&D do is disgusting

Posted by Alexan on Dec-26-2004 07:13:

lol! Disgusting? why?

Posted by Tayfoon on Dec-26-2004 07:15:

Would you pay 40 $ to see a guy stand behind the decks and not even mix ?

Posted by Alexan on Dec-26-2004 08:01:

what do you mean not even mix?

so if he's using cd's, mp3's he's not mixing tracks? just because he's not using vinyl doesn't mean he's not mixing.

Posted by Tayfoon on Dec-26-2004 08:01:

if the comp does the mixing for him, then he is not mixing

Posted by Alexan on Dec-26-2004 08:02:

the comp does the mixing? a cross fader in a program is still a cross fader?

Posted by Tayfoon on Dec-26-2004 08:04:

this isnt final scratch, if he doesnt beat match, fades channels out ect
he isnt mixing

Posted by Alexan on Dec-26-2004 08:06:

he does beat match and fade channels out just using a comp

and you still haven't explained why it's "disgusting"

Posted by mdamon7278 on Dec-26-2004 08:11:

Was he ever a DJ, i thought he just played toliet music

Posted by Alexan on Dec-26-2004 08:11:

what do you mean by toilet music?

Posted by trunks1022 on Dec-26-2004 08:26:

i doubt many of you guys that're jawing back and forth have seen him do this live in person... looked like he's putting in some good work despite the fact that he's using his powerbook up there. and yes i saw him at the start of his fundacion residency here at crobar, new york. now i don't know what for sure he's doing behind the computer, but

his live remixing is wicked and
he still makes us all dance like crazy...

i'd really love to see the exact set up he has...

on an end note, he's entitled to do what he likes.

pictures of fundacion

looks like he's working on a mixer there...

Posted by Alexan on Dec-26-2004 08:36:

actually I'd be suprised if he wasn't using a mixer connected via midi to his laptop. listen to involver, and listen to the tracks he used by themselves and you'll see the involver version's are different. He used ableton live on involver and the whole thing was him remxing in real time.

don't like his style? don't listen to it, nobody's forcing you to. think what he's doing is disgusting then complain to him about that not on here.

This was from an interview he did with DJTimes...
DJ Times: Ableton Live ReWired into Logic Audio is still your main setup?
Sasha: Yeah, and the thing is, this week, the guys from M-Audio sent me a load of controllers to test with [Ableton] Live. I hooked up the controllers to Live on my laptop, and I was DJing with it at home. It's really amazing.

Notice how he said I was "DJing at home"

I use ableton almost everyday. How the hell can you tell if I can or can't grasp a program from one stupid comment?

Not spending so much time on beatmatching is a step forward, it gives you more time to be more creative and add different things to the songs. Sasha can go back to vinyl anytime he wants you know? But he chooses this so you should respect his decision.

Posted by Max Thomson on Dec-27-2004 04:42:

For a bunch of tranceaddicts, a lot of you guys arent informed at all.

Beatmatching is a pain in the ass, plain and simple. If you're not a dj you don't understand that. I could do 100 times more things to a track with the mixer if I didn't have to worry about record a or record b slipping.

Abelton streamlines this, and with the custom controller that Sasha has, he doesn't look like a wanker (you can still see him working the mixer and controller).

If you don't appreciate the next level, where things are done on the fly and unconventionally, then you won't appreciate this...yet. You will, though. Why? Because this shit is the future, and its here to stay.

To quote Sasha: "Its about whats coming out of the fucking speakers."

Posted by Tayfoon on Dec-27-2004 04:44:

Pain in the ass ? so is standing behind the decks for hours, its the fuckin business, deal with it

If standing behind the decks for hours is a pain in the ass, how do I get so into it?

It is a business, you're right. Theres more than one way of doing that business...this way happens to be the future.
