No, of course it wasn't original. I liked it though, back then I hadn't heard anything like it, and I doubt most not-so dedicated EDM listeners had either.

No you have not heard countless productions by him. Why? Because, he has many productions that do not sound like him at all. Try listening to Liquid Overdose - Pure Glide or Opium and then tell me it sounds the same. And yes, Liquid Overdose = MIKE.

BUT i also can say, a producer that uses a similar sound in most of their tunes makes them unique,

for example, Marco V uses a similar kick in most of his tunes, that is a good thing, his kick is pounding and energetic, that has gained him his name and when you hear that sound, its marco v.

**In my opinion

Alot of producers can pull of this 'similar sound' and sound very good:
* Dirty Bass < has a grungy, fuzzy, ride cymbal that occurs in all their tunes
* Marco V < as mentioned earlier
* Hardcell < simple boomy basslines that are usually bouncy and moving, similar in most tunes
* Hertz < has a simple sound repeated, almost the same synth
* Ferry < usually has the same electro-ish feel to most of his tunes
* A&B < usually has a moving, flowing, positive synth that is usually very trancy


Thats all i could think about right now, but a similar sound are usually good, it separates them from the rest, i can explain this to people that say "all techno (they say techno becuase they think its all 'techno') sounds the same" but in theory, it is closely the same, but the sounds are unique to the artists

Oh yeah, +1 for RvG.

He ultimately proved it with Cold Storage. Ughhh.....

anyways i dont really think its that bad that some producers dont vary their sound.. i actually prefer that most of htem keep their sound the same

for instance

js16 .. i love his tunes.. and remixes.. because of the structure type, and the elements

but producers that i am bored of because of their style

solid globe
markus schulz
pulsedriver ( i like his sound but i dont like the direction hes going with it)
probspot a bit

Filo & Peri is another example

I like them a lot at the beginning but now I find them quite boring with always the same bassline on the beat.

Quoting two songs from one producer does not prove your point im sorry. But mr schulz has been burning out his signiture fluffy prog sound for ages now. Also as the rush comes was released ages ago last year, and the remix sounds exactly the same as his remix of the 24 theme tune.

So please dont try and question my logic which is based on my own opinion funnily enough! Just because you like these artists dosnt mean they are suddenly original, which they are not. You want originality look at artists like junkie xl, peter, infusion, unkle.............

Benassi isn't boring but I can't hear his music...

They have come out with a very nice (IMO) rmx to an old Doobie Bros track, very much electro tinged and much of a different sound.

Although it's pretty much been driven into the ground, I need to reiterate that M.I.K.E/PUSH/etc is an awesome producer...his productions pretty much got me into trance and I've liked almost everyone since...

Obviously he has had some weaker productions, but that's to be expected...they're weaker because I don't like them...others might. Don't forget the musical opinion is subjective

for example: i was used to like all thrillseeka trax, but 2004 was not a good year for me listening his songs, imo, i liked some stuff like: usual aspect - mr blue (thrillseekers remix), rapid eye - santa cruz and reflect - neet to feel loved remix...
but lots of his remixes was bad...

that was IMO.
