so basically i think he's trying to say he cares a decent amount, and in the heat of the moment may end up getting everyone killed

It is impossible to answer the question "Will you die for your loved ones", time will tell when you are faced with such situations. People usually contradict themselves, saying they would die for their love ones. However, when the time comes, the person can reject the notion he/she believed before.

Personally, to answer the question raised, it really depends on the situation, timing and person. For my GF? Yes, Parents, no (as they are assholes).

To answer the question:

I would absolutely put my life on the line. I do, however, completely agree with Arbiter in that living without your loved one is a fate far worse than death. In contrast, though, a gesture such as giving your life may leave them with some sense of 'happiness' (for lack of a better word) knowing that there was somebody in the world who cared enough about them to make what is essentially life's ultimate sacrifice for them. If one or both of you are religious, it could hold an even greater significance because you will believe that you will be reunited once again with your true love for eternity, and that the relative insignificance of your natural life is merely a means to finding the one thing that will give you happiness for all time.

And like someone else said, I don't think my friends would die for me. I used to feel all noble at heart thinking how I'd throw down for any of them, but nowadays I think I'd just let'em rot.

But if you have really loved someone and you ever found yourself in the situation of dieing for that person, and by making the decision you want to continue and enjoy your life, this person that you love is killed. Do you think your life would still be so much fun?

Anybody who has loved would not be able to live without the heartache.

Suddenly things probably wouldn't seem so fun and great anymore.

You can still enjoy a life, but that would be some burden to have over you for the rest of your life.
