Thats one HELL of a long sentence

Where in this thread did i bash the Guvernment? Im quite past that Maxine - bashing a club in which i dont associate myself with would only bring me to your level. The comments i made in here about System were simply an acknowledgement to the upgrade they recently made, which i feel was not only fair, but positive as well. I quoted you yes, but did i say anything about it? No. Ill leave that up to others who give two shits. I just thought it was a good laugh. Goodbye

Well that explains a few things... I'm guessing your ritual spot is sprawled on the floor next to one of the speakers convulsing periodically?

When the bouncers go on like jack asses with certain things and get many complaints then those guys get punished by getting fired or getting put in crappy positions and putting the rookies in the good spots. I remember there were some complaints one week and then the next week all the vets were put in crappy positions and the rookies had all the good spots. Also when there was a situation with the bouncers going overboard and overly strict and rude in regards to a different situation to the point where many complaints came in, there were firings and warnings were given out and a staff meeting was called telling people to shape up or ship out so yes people do read the message boards and hear complaints and changes are made when warrented.

That's nice, if it's true (I don't know how you would know this), but the fact is, nothing has changed at the Guv. The bouncers, bartenders, and the rest of the staff are still rude jackasses and people still complain.

So either (a) you're exaggerating quite a bit about how the Guv handled it, (b) the staff knows it's just a slap on the wrists, (c) all the staff they hire are rude, including the rookies, or (d) there's something about the Guv itself that causes normal people to be rude and unprofessional. Pick any option you want, none of them really suggest that the Guv cares about their customers.

A very dear friend of mine knows the owner of the Guv (I think his name is Charles) and this person told me that he does NOT give a rats ass about the patrons as long as the money keeps rolling in

Well your very dear friend is a very big jack ass who obviously know anything about the industry because if someone didn't give a rats ass about the patrons then there would have been no way for a club with the massive size of THE GUVERNMENT to survive and last for
8+ years with so much success. Saying that he doesn't give a rats ass about patrons as long as the money keeps rolling in is a contradiction right there because no money would be rolling in if you don't give a rats ass about the patrons and don't give them what they want which GUV has obviously done otherwise it wouldn't be around today and wouldn't have had so much success.

Keeping your customers happy and making money go hand and hand and this applies to any business and without satisfied customers you wouldn't have a business at all and to keep your customers happy you must care enough to know what they want and give it to them and keep things fresh and exciting for them as well which is what THE GUVERNMENT has done for the last 8+ years.

If the owner of GUV didn't care about the patrons then he wouldn't pay Mark Oliver the kind of money that he is getting and would just go out an average DJ to play at GUV instead for much cheaper but instead you have the best DJ in Canada as a resident. If he didn't care then why would they spend money to get a really good sound system and why bother with all the lasers? Why would he spend money to renovate THE DRINK and ORANGE ROOM if he didn't care??

Do you have anything at all to go by, other than your convoluted logic which says that a successful club automatically treats its customers well (and vice versa)?

Let me spell it out for you Max:

Success <> Customer Service

We can see examples of that in MANY well-known companies. Bell, Rogers, almost all the banks, Dell, Toyota, Sony... the list goes on.

The Guvernment is successful because during the 1999-2004 years, it had somewhat of a monopoly on the Toronto club scene. After rave died and massive city venues were banned, the Guvernment was really the only place capable of hosting very large dance music events.

Now the Toronto club scene is starting to get its act together. Boa is out there and kicking butt. System Soundbar is doing upgrades to one thing or another every 6 months. The Docks is starting to throw big parties and seems quite popular as a "rave" venue with Destiny and other promoters. And a bunch of new clubs are springing up all over the city like Arc and Republik.

This all happened within the past year. We haven't really seen the effects of it yet.

Rest assured, Guv is going to start losing its success very rapidly to other clubs, and it will be BECAUSE of its shit attitude toward customers. Sure, it will still make money because it's the modern cultural icon of sketchy Asians and plastic barbie girls everywhere, but unless your definition of "success" is based solely on profits then that's not going to be enough. Either they're going to have to use the Kool Haus *A LOT* more in the near future or they are going to become just another dirty downtown sketch hole that "in the know" people don't give a shit about.

You can contradict and badger me all you want, but unless you have logic to support your argument then nobody is going to listen to you. When the only thing you can think of to say to Boa is for them to play more trance and serve booze, it clearly highlights your immature and jaded outlook on clubbing. Don't believe me? Fine, we'll wait and see - I am sure that once again you will be proven wrong and once again you'll come up with lame excuses to weasel out of admitting it.

If THE GUVERNMENT has such a shitty attitude towards customers then how could it have survived for 8+ years and why would GUV make the effort to keep things fresh and top tier for its customers DJ wise and facility wise? People were complaining about bouncers kicking people out for smoking and that was put to an end with one of the guys who was going way overboard getting fired and warnings handed out and staff meetings held with management dealing with it directly.

You previously stated that the bartenders and bouncers were assholes at GUV but I think that bartenders being assholes and bitches is an industry wide problem as opposed to a GUV problem due to the nature of the position and having to rely mainly on tips and obviously everyone isn't going to tip you and this will cause stress and bitterness from bartenders city wide.2 guys who worked at THE GUVERNMENT at one point were Zark and Ralph who became 2 of the top promoters in the city with ZRF and PROJECT ORANGE and also have their own club in CENTURY ROOM which is doing very well as well.

As for you saying that the bouncers are assholes at GUV, if this was true then why are there so many ex-GUVERNMENT guys who are now heads of security at other clubs such as Earle Francis (Big Mike from BOA's younger brother)@INSIDE, Kevin@NYC, Gus@VIVA, John T@REPUBLIK, Blake Mitchell@THERAPY who has now moved up to a manager position and Tan Tan@EASY ON THE FIFTH who was also at THE GUVERNMENT at one point and others as well? If Jamil and his staff weren't doing a good job on security then they wouldn't be producing so many head doorman across the city. It all starts from the top down and Jamil is known acoss the city for having great people skills and will be opening up his own club as well and is the best around in my opinion and the fact that he is the highest paid and has brought up and produced so many head's of security around the city and was voted the best doorman 2 years in a row only add to my point.

THE GUVERNMENT has like 35-40 guys working on security on an average night where you have like 4000-500o people and on special events around 50-60 when the KOOL HAUS is opened so with that many guys working, chances are that you aren't going to have every single guy in a good mode especially when considering the nature of the position. Other clubs such as LUCID have about 3000-3500 patrons at most to deal with and yet have 70-80 security working and sometimes pay for more while GUV has more patrons and half the number of security which should give you an idea of how well orginized the GUV security actually is. MUZIK Nightclub which is going to open around the CNE Grounds is apprently going to fit 4000-5000 people and yet will be going with 90 security which is half of what GUV goes with so this once again should give you an idea of how well run and orginized the GUV security is.

When you have a smaller club to deal with then you will have less security and your chances of finding one who is in a bad mood increase due to numbers and odds. Every club is going to have some security and bartenders who are bitches and assholes at one time or another and this is nothing newbut to paint everybody with the same brush is simply not fair.

Amen to that!!

Diginut aka Nutsack you know fuck all about the industry so stop acting like you do because you ain't fooling anyone

You seriously need to get over your bad case of bouncer phobia which has you having nightmares at night and cringing at the sight of someone wearing an earpiece and wearing all black
I know that seeing big bouncers must remind you of those times where you were getting your ass kicked by all the big bullies in high school and spending many lonely moments stuck inside lockers and it must be a very hard thing for you to deal with but move on

Maxpain, hardcoretrancer, instead of throwing insults, try arguing with counter-points.

Where in his analogy is Diginut wrong?

The Guv has gone with a businesss plan that caters to a variety of people, with it's multiple siderooms and lounges like The Drink and The Orange Room. These other rooms play different music than edm, allowing the Guv to offer everything you find on Richmond St on a Friday or Saturday night.

I've always compared the Guv to the Joker, or Whiskey Saigon.. They have 3 floors, 3 genres, a mashing of crowds, same principle is in use @ the Guv. Maximum marketablility.

When you have that kind of draw, and such a huge chunk of the market, customer service is something that is going to lack bigtime. Perhaps it's intentional, perhaps it's just because you can't handle large volumes of people in this industry in a mostly positive manner with a staff situation such as that.

You are entitled to like the places you go, and people who haven't enjoyed themselves there are equally entitled to dislike the places they have negative experiences at.

Have fun man.
I'll be @ Guv on Sat most likely. As for the club "fights" in here...

Go wherever the fuck you want to. PERIOD. Stop bitching and whining like you're 12 and aren't getting what you want. Hell I want there to be NO last call in Toronto and the scene to be how it is in Europe here but it WON'T happen anytime soon so I don't even bother thinking about it. FFS.

Your comments were amongst the stupidest I have ever heard but it's time for a little history lesson Diginutsucker.

First off BOA had over 1200+ people this past Saturday and THE GUVERNMENT was still rammed so both clubs can obviously co exist and there is a market for both. SYSTEM SOUNDBAR has been around for a while so stop acting like it just opened last week or is some struggling club which is now magically started to do well when it has been doing well for a while now. SYSTEM SOUNDBAR has been very successful over the years even before any upgrades while THE GUVERNMENT has also enjoyed a lot of success and both have co existed and done well and will continue to do so.

THE DOCKS has also been around for a very long time and this is not the first time in history where they have thrown big parties and this is not the first time in history where it has been a popular "rave" venue. In case you haven't noticed THE DOCKS doesn't hold electronic events on a regular basis and does it once in a while and not weekly and also in case you didn't know the owners of THE DOCKS and THE GUVERNMENT are very good friends and they actually own a flea market together so there is no beef between THE DOCKS and THE GUVERNMENT whom have both been very successful over the years and co-existed very nicely.

ARC which was formerly LOTUS is not doing as well as LOTUS did and even when LOTUS was at it's highest peak of success, both LOTUS and THE GUVERNMENT were still both doing very well and co-existing.
As for you saying that REPUBLIK would also help destroy THE GUVERNMENT I would have to once again disagree with you because REPUBLIK will have a capacity of 1500 so its hard to make comparisions in this case because of sheer numbers and the sizes of both clubs. I'm sure that in this case REPUBLIK and THE GUVERNMENT will both do well and co-exist and I think that there is a market for clubs clubs to survive and do well.

Also THE GUVERNMENT did very well and was still successful when INDUSTRY was around and both clubs were able to prosper and do well and co-exist. THE GUVERNMENT also managed to do very well and be successful when MEOW which was another very popular club which did have a very large capacity was around and once again both clubs were very successful and co-existed. When LUCID opened people tried to say that it would be a big threat to THE GUVERNMENT yet GUV has still been as successful as ever.

So Diginutsucker don't hold your breath waiting for THE GUVERNMENT to be destroyed and die anytime soon because THE GUVERNMENT is not closing down or dying anytime soon so you can fuck off with your weak arguement!!!!!!

THE GUVERNMENT, IT'S NOT A NIGHTCLUB, IT'S A LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Skipper on Jan-12-2005 14:16:

Guv won't die because of boa. The target markets are quite different.

I think what Aaron is suggesting is that the part of the market that has been going to Guv for special events and to hear particular guest DJs will start to go elsewhere - not only because they can be treated better elsewhere, but because those special events are starting to be held in other venues.
