Ohhh Julia, this thread starter is.... I don't mind the thread topic, but in reference to your suggestions:

1. Boa has booked REAL techno acts b4. Considering the owner isn't a fan of techno to begin with, we're lucky there's any there at all.

2. Mauro's own N. American booking agency (Blue Bookings) is based in Toronto- I'm sure they would go to them directly should they wish to book him.

As for my minor gripes-
- Air fresheners or incense for the smoking room
- Put the coat check back out on the roof
- ********** Mark the stairs with something visible for the walk down. Hell, I'll even come do it myself, if u want! I feel like SUCH a dork trying to go down those steps, getting thrown off by every line that goes across the floor. My sense of balance gets so out of whack in there, and people trip going down ALL the time.

How about a "Watch your step" Sign.

i like boa just the way it is (it WOULD be perfect if there was naked girls pouring beers all over themselves, but thats just me ).

my 2 cents about mauro - saw him 4 times so far, first 3 times he was so-so, last time he was at the koolhaus (some big ass event, i think sven vath was there that night too) guy KILLED IT, tekno at its best.

u know what would make boa perfect ????

SANDER K. bi-monthly residnet, or even better, monthly resident

one can hope, right ??????

Posted by sohaness on Jan-19-2005 17:26:

why do people always request this 'get a permanent liquor license' for boa???

how many times does it need to be said. its an afterhours club. it opens at 1am for fucks sake.

i seem to have pms this morning...

steve.

The old cliche: Dont fix whats not broken

! Please, yes. Anything to make the stairs safer. I hurt my foot at New Year's climbing up these steps, due to some inconsiderate folks crowding in front of me during my ascent. This certainly put somewhat of a damper on the rest of the evening...

No liquor please.

That would actually be even better than a working a/c. Now that's an original suggestion!

1.) They got an air conditioning system installed.

2.) They had more REAL techno music, and not imitation techno (aka tech-house or whatever they call it)

3.) They booked Mauro Picotto***!!

Feel free to add to the list

*** Note to Rony & Carey: I have Mauro's contact info if you are interested in booking him!!

I dont think that'll be accomplish since BOA is a Hause club!

would it be difficult or wrong or anything... if BoaRedux was open from , say, 11pm?? ... then there's 3 hours of drinking there.

I haven't been there since Orkidea... I can't wait to return.

Posted by dallastar on Jan-20-2005 01:39:

But it's NOT open at 11 PM, it's open at 1 AM.

Get it?

Oh well, supply and demand

Actually, if you go to Montral to a place like Stereo or Aria, cover is usually $30+ AND they don't open until like 3 am (I know Stereo does at least).

So asking for $20 before 2 is VERY reasonable and I think it was mentioned in an earlier post but Boa does not have a liquor license - 1 hour to serve is just not practical. Montreal is the same way - these venues don't have licenses, they are TRUE afterhours clubs.

You must remember, pretty much all of Boa's (and other clubs of this sort) income is off cover primarily.

Perhaps a reason why they don't open earlier and go for a license is because they do not want the place to become another club where you get shitfaced or become an underage drinking hangout like the Brunny, hence the 21+.

All I gotta say is that Boa is a refreshing change that Toronto sorely needed.

+1. This is the only thing that I can think of that would improve the Boa experience. When people are in a certain state of mind, unmarked stairs can be very dangerous in the dark.

the stairs issue has come several times in this thread...a few months ago i suggested they line the upper top edge and bottom of each step with that strip lighting that intalls right into the step itself...it doesnt have to be ultra bright, just enough to give people a heads up that a step is coming...

i know the club fairly well and even i've stumbled a few times in the darkness

that's my only nitpic....on every major issue the club rules!!

Unfortunately, due to the way a true afterhours club operates, a higher cover price is a must. Since the club doesnt generate the high income in alcohol, it must make up for it in other ways. Also a high amount of the cover price goes back into the club through renovations, sound, dj's, etc. There are some MAJOR renovations still to be done this year, including (believe it or not) - MORE SOUND.

What the hell are people complaining about the prices for????? I don't get it. The cover charge is very reasonable considering the talent and ambiance of the club. Try going to a Europe club, especially afterhours and see how much they charge you. You'll wish you were paying BOA cover charges. There is no price tag for a great club like this. BOA rocks!
