Federer goes down to Safin....sorry to all the Federer fans but I'm a Safin fan so...WOHOO for me

quote:
Marat Safin ended top-ranked Roger Federer's 26-match winning streak in a classic Australian Open semifinal, outlasting the defending champion 5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 9-7 in a dazzling 4 1/2-hour match.

And Maria Sharapova (AKA Super Hottie)...lost to the crazy Serena Williams (she doesn't even look human anymore...pure muscle...starting to remind me of a race horse )

wow, watched 5.5 hours of tennis last night. the davenport/dechy match wasn't over untill 3am!

i've been super impressed with the quality of the matches this year. everyone has really come to play and win. makes the matches so much fun to watch.

bummer about federer losing to safin, his game is so solid. i'll watch the rebroadcast this afternoon. at least it proves he is human - i was having doubts.

Sounds like me most nights when an grand slam is on!!

You got it... we have last nights Sharapova vs. Serena Williams
then we had Molik vs. Davenport (ppl are calling it "the match" of womens tennis for this tournament in 2005)

Speaking about the quality of play tho... Sharapova.. this girl has like NO real weakness... her game is unbelieveable, only made MORE unbelieve able when you think she's only 17 (!!!!). Can you imagine keeping it together in a grand slam semi final at the age of 17 agaist prolly the most powerfull womens play out there who used to just DOMINATE the courts ???? Like last night, it soooo appeared Sharapova was getting to Serena... esp. in the first set, and early in the 2nd... serena just seemed so preoccupied .. yet she wasnt getting to Sharapova at all! Sharapova was just very focused..

Speaking of her game tho.. for being as freakin tall as she is, 6'0".. she moves like someone WAY shorter... that girl is so freaking athletic... she just moves around that court so easily... many very tall players have problems with their movements on courts (when generally compared to short, average height players)... but sharapova is one of the best in terms of running around balls.. AND she lvoes to go to net, get those serve and volley points, whihc we dont see much these days! You almost see her really "looking" for a reason to come to net... where most other plays really almost actively avoid having to come to net! Maria's serve too is phenominal.. even her 2nd serve is usually over 100mph... she's just willing to go for the big points and take chances, even when facing break points . She great at those cross court points and consistent always sends balls right up the line . Shes just not afraid to go for those big shots, which is refreshing to see (many players, men adn women, only take those big shots only when its not really a gamble)

in short, maria's game is off the hook and im very disapointed she wasnt able to repeat her first set and DESTROY the monkey sister in straight sets... her loss hurts!

Im not bummed about it at all, but ur right, it DOES prove that hes still human bc he has been just DOMINATING and KILLING everyone else in men's tennis... a hitch has finally been thrown into his game!
With federer out, hewitt or roddick, either has a much greater chance now to take this open... im not sure who im betting on or cheering for.. i like both players, but roddick more.. but it IS the australian open... so id really like to see Lleyton take it... but also, i really want Roddick to get some more Grand slam titles under his belt... so im kinda split even 50-50... i personally dont think safin is gonna stop either one of those two (even tho he did knock out federer)

No kidding... when i was watching the Molik - Davenport match... the weather was reported at 30oC... but on court is was about 10 degree hotter they said

thats 40oC

OMG!!!!!!!!!! that'd be soooooooooooo heaven!! Im craving all that heat and sunshine so much! i just wanna move to australia as we speak!

It really horrible of them when they cut to the beach scenes... if really just makes u miserable that we're here in canada with all this snow, LOL

Honestly its borderline depression for me now that FEDERER lost SOOOO good, and ALL class.

Should be a gr8 final however - 2 players at the top of their game
and best of all, NO RODDICK

I predict Safin in 5 sets, but barely obv

Federer is one of my ULTIMATE faves.....

Its like this:

1.Croatia
2.U2
3.ARMIN
4.Federer

Posted by AwakenedAddict on Jan-25-2006 14:38:

I passed out last night on the couch watching Keifer vs. Grossjean, when I woke up Federer was on

Too bad I had to go to le work...

Posted by Jem_hadar on Jan-25-2006 18:33:

Kim just beat Martina Hingis! I havent watched the tape from 2pm yesterday! I hope that match was aired then!

I'm calling home to have someone tape the airtime again today at 2pm when coverage resumes!

The other match I wanan see is my FAVE Justine Henin-Hardenne beating Davenport (take that bitch!)

In the semis, its now Justine vs. Sharapova!!!

God thats gonna be glorious!!! IM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOOOKING FORWARD TO THIS! Like that match, Justine Henin-Hardenne vs. I think it was Monica Seles back in the US Open of 2003! What a BLOODY SEMI FINALS MATCH! The final wasnt NEARLY as good as that match!

Justine vs. Maria is gonna be really good to watch.. and OF COURSE I think Justine's gonna own that match.

Maria's awesome - a truly phenominal 18 year-old player... but Justine... that girl fucking moves... and her angles are prolly gonna take down Maria (I have a hunch... we'll see, but i REALLY HOPE SO!!!!!!)

Jem

Posted by TheVrk on Jan-25-2006 18:48:

Jem, i agree, Henin-Hardenne will NARROWLY beat Sharapova....
Clijsters is just too tuff for Mauresmo

Federer vs Nalbandian in the final perhaps?
If Federer's playing, i'm not goin out....
