I'd be for gay marrige if gays promised to take "queer eye for the straight guy" off the air and never bring it back or mention it again

Posted by colonelcrisp on Feb-01-2005 06:14:

the basis of legitimate marriage being based on procreation is a pretty stupid argument. there are too many kids being born every year around the world, be it from un planned pregnancy in north america, or children born in china whos parents wanted boys instead of girls, or orphaned children worldwide. what we need more of in the world is loving family units, not baby making couples.

yes i understand that heterosexual unions are important and indeed play a substancial role in any society. i think the cornerstone of civilization is love. who cares who it is between. gay couples who marry should be able to adopt like any heter couple. and despite what the right wing christian crackpots think, i doubt that any child raised by a homosexual couple will be "turned" gay.

i think the people who strive to protect the "classical defenition of marriage" should spend more time fixing their system and less time on trying to exclued people from it.

Although im pretty sure that the US will never see legalized samesex marriage. i hope the canadian government will pass this new bill, it would be a nice fresh view on old ideals that i think is well needed in this day and age.

^^
they won't turn out gay b/c they'll be killed in junior high.

I don't think gay's should be able to adopt, at least not yet, society definitely is not ready to take things to that level

People in GENERAL shouldnt be allowed to be married or have kids. A rigorous selective breeding program needs to be implemented and a caste system developed. Uber soldats, uber mensch. The Germans DID have some good ideas. Hell look at the Dinan M3.

Force couples who want children that havent passed the system into the shadowy underworld. The choice to live happily sterile and having sex without children is rather utopian to most people. Those select few who have passed the test dont even have to be married. A careful analysis of genetic material can be fed into a nationwide data base run by the government and appropriate female "tanks" can be selected. The child will be theirs. Who says that genetics make up a family. The family you get to choose is the best.

So youll have couples that receive a pass to have a child (the ones who desire a child will be the only ones contacted with an annual contact to see if they wish their status changed). In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) will become the norm. The rare couple of people who have both passed the test will be given the chance to procreate along the normal lines but this is discouraged. There is always the chance of a mutation, a stray sperm or egg that doesnt match up to spec. The "Nature" children will be allowed so as to let human evolve along proscribed lines. We arent so foolish as to think we can take the human race to the next step by ourselves.

There will be a drastic population drop, but after the stabilization of resources and a re-allocation of surplus the nation will enter into a new era of prosperity and power. The rigorous naturalization process and genetic screening will limit the influx of non-nationals and the 5 year minumum military enrollment from age 20-25 will make sure we have a top notch miltiary.

whos with me?

centuries from now, people will look back at these historical debates and laugh. The idea of debating the rights of blacks was once as hot an issue. At one time this country debated fiercely over slavery. But over time, blacks were accepted and embraced by our society.

The fact is, people are reluctant to accept change, and this is simply a clash of ideals. It is the old, conservative belief coming face to face with a new, liberal way of looking at marriage. It isn't a matter of right and wrong, moral or immoral, though many call it that. If there is ever to be a true system of equality in this country, gays must be embraced, but it is a slow process. I accept gay marriage and see nothing wrong with it, just as I am an advocate of minority and women's rights.

And considering how many family-deprived orphans there are being brought into this world, allowing gay couples to adopt is a wonderful thing.

If we can get past the fear of change, we will see that there are bigger things in the world to get upset over. We are at war, we are obese, we are spreading aids to eachother at a horrific rate...these are the issues-not who or what another individual wants to marry.

Posted by Orbax on Feb-01-2005 22:47:

meh just cuz we have lots of orphans doesnt mean we should let sub standard couples raise them. The focus should be raising social consciousness and stopping teenage pregnancy, not treating the symptoms of a sick society. Find the cure to the disease.

Posted by CityKitty on Feb-01-2005 23:06:

Of course I am all for stopping teenage prognacy, I would never be a supporter of that. And that is one of the issues that I think is far more important than gay marriage.

However, teenagers are stupid, clumsy, and often ignorant when it comes to sex-it happens. And there are older women who give up their children too-not just teens. Women with drug problems, mental ussues, etc.

I think it's unfair to assume that a same-sex couple isn't capable of loving and caring for a child, if not more. At a 50% divorce rate, heterosexual couples aren't doing so great either. I thnnk it's important to look at why families fail rather than what gender they are made up of. Banning gay marriage is not a cure either-the fact is that there ARE orphans all over the world and that is an epidemic in itself. If a sam-sex couple can give a child a better life, why not let them?

Good posts from Renegade

With regards to marriage, religeous or not, they are more about 2 people showing the ultimate form of commitment, and as such, why should 2 people of the same sex be denied this?

As for gay couples adopting, would't you rather have a successful gay couple raise a child well and give them a lovely future, or do uneducated trailer-trash with 7 children who'll more then likely never make anything much of their lives seem more acceptable candidates?

Unfortunately, as Spartan said, society in many parts of the world is currently unable to cope with such things, due to the close-mindedness of the past few generations worth of upbringings. That said, isn't it about time we start shifting away from this and make all these petty things non-taboo?

Posted by Orbax on Feb-01-2005 23:32:

when I said sub-standard it included all unqualified couples I dont think anyone would argue that if you had two couples, a hetero and a homo both financially secure, moral, caring and loving, that it wouldnt be better for the child to be raised by a heterosexual couple. If you say it would be the same you have had ZERO background in sociology and psychology.

So for now im sure if they went through a screening process..more rigorous than now, because I also have a slight fear of what an already sexually deviant (deviant is right bastards, its so far from the norm its got icicles forming on it) would do with a child. We have enough pedophiles in the world as it is. before you quote what I said it wasnt my point, just a random opinion with no real basis. So save time and dont quote it. Oh the minor point of this paragraph- opening up the adoption system is a temporary fix to a permanent problem.

point: Reducing orphan numbers would be most ideal. Instead of pushing gay rights people should be in the streets screaming about underpaid teachers and a shitty educational system. Cuz...gay rights would also disappear as an issue in a well informed society.

In addition to my lifestyle I believe in freedom and democracy for ALL. Some people seem determined to turn our country into a Theocratic state. Sad indeed.

Orbox's response is typical just stick your head in the sand and hope the world conforms to your narrow view.

I think hes mad that I thought a well educated populace that were taught about sexuality, crimes, wellfare, street life, and all the non judeo-christian perpspectives and lifestyles at a young age would be a more open minded and respectful group of people.
