just got home from another serving of holden with a healthy dose of fun in the sun!!

as expected he play more bangers, less tech and more melodic, as usual i met a few familiar faces from this board.. front and centre as always!!

almost got pounded by a trashed 100+kg bitch(exaggeration), countless muzz stepping on my foot and drunken hippies shouting in my ears whenever they scored free drugs..

apart from all that, i'm glad i went!

babes are of good qualities too

Heh, tried to catch him again at the St Kilda fest this afternoon but we ended up getting there too late (I didn't finish work till 5 :-/) and couldn't find the stage anyway, so we just kinda ended up walking around in the sun for a couple of hours. Thank god for the eye-candy, otherwise it would have been a complete waste of time...

Anyway, yeah, how good was Holden on Friday? Wasn't too sure about what to expect but he definitely exceeded all expectations. Before Friday - even though I'd seen his tracklists take on a much techier edge over the past few months - I'd still have considered him a predominantly "progressive" DJ, but not any more. He may have an incredibly unique sound, but James Holden is now officially a tech DJ and a damn good one at that. His mixing has tightened up considerably since I last saw him and he's learnt how to program sets much better as well. Didn't spot much - got the Mayer mix of Superpitcher - Happiness, Sky is Pink, ADJD - Believe (think this was the track I was trying to ID for you guys, Gerry and Jules) and a few others that have slipped my mind for the time being. But yeah - that was one of the freshest most innovative sets I've heard for ages. Considering he's only been playing out for about 3 years, I think Holden really has the potential to join the elite level of DJs pretty damn soon.

Oh and I was only 3 hours late for work the next day. Go me.

EDIT: Also, for the seven people that actually decided not to leave the club as soon as Holden finished, Dimitri Frost played a fucking wicked, driving not quite house not quite tech set after Holden finished. Haven't heard much from him before, but he kept us there until the end. It was just a shame that there was no-one left to hear him by that stage.

Got there pretty early and the place was empty but slowly it began filling up which was a good sign.

The dude before Boogs who was apparently an ex Salt dj done a real good job i liked his set. Boogs was ok to start of with then just got to cheesy for me. He played handbag house but all the different remixes..lol i think Gerry enjoyed it

Decided to go for a walk to the toilet, as u do, and hap[pened to bump into James Holden with his grey trench coat on..of course it always looks better on u when ur popular.

Holdens set started off very minimal and after 5 tracks the beat still sounded the same...he then got into some more chunkier and funky basslines which i didnt mind at all. He really went through all elements during his set from minimal-tech-psy-deep-and a little melodic at times. Dropping A Break In The Clouds towards the end of his set was an obvious highlight

Good to see the 5 strong TA faithfuls out in full force. Was good catching up with Gerry, Jules, James and Andrew..

I rarely listen to this style but of what ive heard this is what i could ID

*Petter - All Together
*James Holden - A Break In The Clouds
*Avus - Fancy Arse (James Holden Sunday Extension)
*Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix)
*Britney Spears - Breathe On Me (James Holden Dub Remix)
*Andre Krami - Safari (James Holden Remix)
*Alter Ego - Rocker
*Sebastian Ingrosso - Walk Talk Acid (Petter's Docklands 97 Remake)??

Encore
*Kirsty Hawkshaw - Fine Day (James Holden Remix)
