ouch! Usually I have to step on someone's foot (or put my own foot in mouth) to get that sentiment.

I wasn't going to go. I was feeling sick last night with a sore throat & fever. My friend said "get lots of rest". So I was resting at home, when my friend Pam called. I didn't pick up the first 2 times, knowing she'd want me to get out. The third time I picked up. "We're at Cuba Libre---we're going to see Billy Idol later...you gotta come."

I hauled my sorry carcass down to Cuba Libre, and talked HER into coming to Infusion & Zabiela.

Element has an intimidating dance floor when it's empty. It's a big open space in front of the DJ booth, with deep carpeted wings on either side. Noone seems to want to be the one "on display" out there alone. So either everyone gets on & dances, or noone gets on & dances. Lance's set was great, but not many people danced.

When Infusion started, there was an immediate rush to the dance floor. Infusion set up on the back wall. 3 guys. The guy in the middle (Jamie) wore a black shirt & a tie. The tie lent an aura of decorum & class. The far left one sang & played keyboards. The one on the far right seemed to be the DJ. Middle guy (Jamie) looked like he was working the sound boards & reverb.

I was stunned to see a live Electronic act. Other live Electronic acts (like Kraftwerk), it seems like they push "play" on their tracks, then make a few minor tweeks. But Infusion was creating it, reverbing it, singing, bouncing--I was present at the generation of music. I could only compare it to seeing the B-52s & realizing that Fred Schneider made all the weird noises in Rock Lobster with his mouth. Infusion was making these sounds, & forming an aural picture, right before my eyes.

Where I was (at the front) everyone seemed very in to it, jumping around. It was great that Infusion was as much into it as us. No stoic frowns, they were bouncing around & jamming & grinning. At times it seemed that there were as many people at the front taping the show or taking photos of the show as dancing. One guy said he was from Globalbeats.net. So those should be floating around soon, to further enrage or inform those who didn't make the show.

There were a few songs in the middle I did NOT like, they just didn't gel. That's okay, I went & got another drink during those parts, & made the good songs all the better. The last 4 songs were solid. I thought they sounded very New-Ordery. They finished with a great cover of "Send me an angel".

Infusion alone would have been more than enough. JBooty & I were talking about how in NYC, the show would have been $35, & we wouldn't have been able to get in. & if we were able to get in, we wouldn't be able to stand 4 feet from the stage like we were.

James Zabiela's set was good. They switched the DJ stands again, so he was playing at the front. I didn't like this location--I like the back stand better. The crowd thinned out somewhat after 2 AM, but was still enthuastic. I wish I could remember more, but it was so late.

Infusion said they're going to WMC in Miami next week--if you have the chance see them, see them, see them. & they're just nice guys, too--they were excited to be in the States.

No worries, James. I'm still sick...hoping it's not cancer you wished on me. I saw one of your fliers for NU-NRG today. They managed to change dJ octane into Dave Molina in time.

I think TimeSluts is a better name than Trance Alliance.

Awesome show, first Lance opened w/ a solid set but no one was there to listen to it or they were cracked out. anways, Infusion came on and blew everyone away w/ their energy and there was a lot of it from them. i danced till my legs hurt, and it was fucking worth it. Then Zabiela came on and i was thinking i can kinda relax now, but he threw down some wicked tracks and i danced my ass off again, but mostly hang around the DJ booth because i was really tired. Me and my buddy would of liked to get breakfast w/ Lance and fellow TA's, but i drove back the same night because my buddy had a basketball game at St. Thomas uni and i was extremely tired also, but some other time Lance and TA's.

tracklist from Zabiela: (in no order)

Chable & Fernandez - Before You Beat My Box Vs The Prodigy - Poison (Jono Fernandez Re-Edit)
Nicolas Vallee - Theme From Silvertone
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (Kriece Remix)

Ok my night in a nutshell:

I met up with Peter and Derek and friends from dallas and houston and san antonio. We had dinner then shot up to the club at around 10:15 just in time to catch Lance's set. There weren't many people there yet, and hell, shame on them because his set rocked. I think I bothered him about 3 times asking what songs he was playing out. It was a perfect opening set. Tonepushers - Falling (Valentino Kanzyani Mix) God that track is banging. You insist constantly to be an advocate for my vinyl purchases. I went on to mingle a little bit, met the boys of Infusion and prepared(more drinks) for their set.

Infusion was by far the greatest live act/DJ performance I've ever seen. This was all before JZ and it was totally mind blowing. The tech sound Infusion brings sounds so great in the club. Listening to it on the computer through speakers just doesn't do any of their tracks justice. They know exactly how to make tracks. They played some favorites: "Do to You" ; "Legacy" ; "Girls Can be Cruel","Better World", "Love and Imitation", ummm a lot more, and about 3 or 4 tracks from their upcoming album. They had such great flow and the vocals were incredible. Frank was going crazy with tricks done on the keyboard and effects. Jamie Stevens was fuckin JAMMING, thats the perfect word. He was so into it, which in turn made the experience that much better. I mean this was some non stop head bobbing jump up and down break your frickin neck beats. I don't think I stopped moving the whole set. Manuel finally starting moving towards the end of the set, he seemed to be the quiet one. I didn't get to meet him, but talking with Jamie and Frank were amazing people. Very, very interesting dudes. Thanks again guys, we gotta see you again.

Oh, Jamie informed me their album is out soon in Australia but won't hit shelves in the UK for about 2 months and the US for quite sometime.(I think that's what he said) I know they have a CD single coming out on the 20th if that's what they mean by album. It has 5 tracks on there!

So When infusion finished with their set everyone immediately turned around to see James. I actually liked that set up. It gave you a feeling of a festival where you looked back over your shoulder and there was someone new playing. Anyways, even though James has a huge name for himself he still had a HUGE act to follow. But he was the man for it no doubt about it. I was was tuckered out by then after all the dancing from Infusion. I sat behind the booth and mingled a lot and rested. Also looking over James' shoulder to see what the hell he was doing. His skill is beyond me, I mean I seriously couldn't start to tell you what he was doing in there. He had a good set I just wasn't up dancing. It was getting late and I don't think he finished til' a little after 3:00. His 2nd to last track was by a guy I can call a friend now, Blake Potter, from Dallas. A great guy and huge talent. I can safely say that we'll be seeing a lot of this guy in the future. His track " ", shit I forgot the name, but it will be coming out on Institution Recordings next month. A wicked breakbeat track. James you were the shiyat.

Overall the best night I've ever been to here in the states. Nothing comes close with all that talent in one night. Definately a big thanks to Lance, great to finally meet you. The night seemed to be a success with a great turn out, and everyone had a great time.

Ok thats it, all I can think of.

DJ alchemy was taking pictures of the event. They should be up after WMC week.

I liked the shifting stages too. I didn't have to wait for the last act to clear out their equipment & then the next act set up. I just liked the layout for the back stage better than the front stage. The front one had a carpetted area, then went back up to the wood dance floor. a little Awkward for dancing.

I talked to Jamie for a bit after his set. He'd said he'd worried when people stood on the dance floor & didn't dance. (The perfomer's worse nightmare--this picture's from a show last year:

South Americans are crazy insane dancers, he said. I said sometimes non-dancing people close to the stage are the biggest fans--they're too dazed & happy trainspotting to dance. Jamie mentioned one guy in particular. Later, I found out that guy was waiting for his roll to begin. So much for my theory. At least I was out there, shaking my ass.

Jamie said he hoped they'd get booked at Coachella next year.

werd

using drugs to enjoy music is fucking gay, and specialy when a DJ you like is performing. i didn't even drink last night, and i danced more intensely than i could have ever on drugs or alky. man just knowning Infusion & Zabiela playing was high enough and the sound system kicked major assage. haha and the fact i got to take pic's w/ james and Infusion and listen to their sets live made driving 200 fucking miles to see them worth it. what a awesome night....

That picture's not from last night--it was from another show last year (look at the date), I just used it to illustrate what expressions a performer doesn't want to see at their show...

I can understand rolling at a trance club, but rolling while your fav DJ is spinning is a fucking waste.

Thanks to all TA's who supported... and thanks very much about the kind words about my playing. I was there to provide atmoshere more than anything... Its hard to get people on the floor that early at Element. The dancefloor is huge! However, thats why I played just deep groovy tech-house at a low volume. It never bothered me that there were not may people on the floor yet. It was early

TMFT, it was good to see you again. I was a little dazed and tired at the end of the event. I hope you don't mind.

I had the opportunity to meet a lot of you guys... and it was a pleasure If I seemed stressed out and running around like a madman... well, thats what I do at our events. I'll dance and jam for about two minutes then run around making sure everyone is ok (sound, laser, lights, door, bar... etc).

I thought that the event went really well. Infusion and James rocked out and played beautifly. James is the ONLY dj I know who can follow them... and he did it well. I was tired and was dancing like a madman!

Thanks to James and Infusion for coming in for the gig and playing magnificent music! Thanks art and Jesse for the great visual stimulation as well.

To all who came and brought the awesome vibe....

THANK YOU
