Did anyone tell you to put DROGBA on the back at Marco V?

The team that has impressed me the most in this round is definitely Lyon. Theres a slew of highly underrated players in this squad and they have all the elements to cause some serious damage in the quarterfinals, I could see them going to the finals bearing they dont draw Chelsea or Milan in the next round.
They play the most attractive style of football and an encounter with Chelsea would certainly a thriller. You have to highlight the home ground advantage Olympique Lyonnais relish at le Gerland. From personal experience I can state that they have one of the most fervent supporters on the old continent. PSV supporters deserve a lot of credit as well for their riveting vocal support in Monaco, there were moments when they carried that main PSV chants for extended periods of time, not that its very hard to go to Luis II and outchant the local Ultras.

Let me leave you with two words that will mark the most this years CL: DIDIER DROGBA!

Yes, what a coincidence. Always remember through DROGBA > Chelsea!

You have all kinds of good games on the weekend, the amount of football you get in Toronto on TV is quite exceptional.

You have Inter taking on the neo-nazis from Rome at 2:30.

Heres a very useful tool for all footy needs:

EDIT: on TV5 @ 15:00 :: OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE - RC LENS live from le Vel.

TORCIDA MARSEILLE!

So I see Inter are through, so both Milan teams are on to the quarters, very impressive considering they both play in the same staium

Here's an interesting article from Fox World Sports

quote:
All signs point to a Real Madrid fire sale

Paul Cannon / Fox Soccer Channel

Last week's Champions League ties involving Spanish teams could not have been more different. Lunacy in London, tedium in Turin. But the outcome was the same elimination.

Barcelona could at least claim to have played better football over the course of the two legs than Chelsea, but so tame was Madrid's capitulation at the hands of Juventus, obituarists proclaimed it the end of the Galactic era.

In a second leg of epic boredom in the Stadio Delle Alpi, Real had huffed and puffed and failed to create a single opening of note against a barely less soporific Juventus, before losing in extra time.

Things promptly got worse on Sunday, when the fading galacticos lost 2-1 to Getafe, their poor neighbors. They didn't just lose, they were dominated. 'Galacticide in Getafe!' announced soccer daily, AS. 'Adios Madrid!' said Sport. 'We're screwed!' admitted midfielder Guti. 'We can't win the league now.'

If you add together the combined current value of the contracts of the six galacticos (Raul, Zidane, Figo, Beckham, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos) you get a whopping total of 88 million Euros. Now, is it really worth paying out that kind of money for players who will have inspired the club to two trophy-less seasons on the trot?

A giant summer jumble sale it is then! What fun! Get yer galacticos 'ere! 'Alf-price Ronaldos and Roberto Carloses, ladies and gentlemen. 'Ow about a lovely Beckham for your daughter! Or a Zinedine Zidane for your mantelpiece? Buy one, get Raul Bravo free...!

But just where the hell do these so-called 'galacticos' go after playing for the soccer equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters?

Who could afford Ronaldo's wages and rekindle his fading passion for the game? Surely he wouldn't go back to Inter, as is being mooted, in a swap deal for Adriano?

Where to for Zidane, the greatest player of the last decade? Would he take a wage-cut to return to Marseille, his home club, or would he quit soccer altogether?

And what about Raul? For the first time in his career Raul's position is seriously vulnerable. Real legend he may be, but when things go bad, fans have a notoriously short memory.

David Beckham doesn't seem to care too much. He's just opened his own soccer academy in London. Which is funnily enough where he's expected to move next, courtesy of Tottenham Hotspur, whose manager Martin Jol wouldn't mind taking Figo off Madrid's hands too.

Florentino Perez is already lining up some tasty new recruits for the summer. Most pressing is the need for a partner for the quietly impressive Thomas Gravesen. Liverpool's crazy horse, Stevie Gerrard would fit the bill. New legs to replace Roberto Carlos' thunder thighs at left-back? Step forward Arsenal's highly-rated left-back, Ashley Cole.

And Santos's latest 'new Pele' candidate, Robinho, is seen as the suitably exciting young blood to link midfield and attack.

Add Arsenal's Jose Antonio Reyes, already duped by Spanish radio into admitting he wanted to sign for Madrid, and the aforementioned Adriano and you would cut the average age and average wage in half.

Coach Wanderlei Luxemburgo, after a brief honeymoon period, seems to be on the same fast track to the sack as Camacho and Garcia Remon. Perez is thought to have his eyes on Juve's Fabio Capello as a replacement.

For the moment though, Madridistas will have to brace themselves for the rest of the season and just hope it doesn't get much worse. With Barcelona coming to the Bernabeu in a couple of weeks, it might well...

Real reminds me of the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA a few years ago ..

i watched that game and i want those 1.5hrs of my time back... that was the sloppiest and most boring game i've seen in a while. no wonder i can't stand italian league - all of their games are boring!

Hey I agree, that's why i only watch the Premier leage and the occasional big game in La'Liga. Didn't mind watching the Inter game though, not when you have two of Europes best young strikers on show. From what i've seen, Adriano and Martins are going to be a defence's nightmare during this competition.

How old is Adriano?

Posted by Kytracid on Mar-16-2005 21:11:

Adriano is 22 and has scored 25 goals this season in all competitions.

Obefemi Martins is 20 and has scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Now you know why Inter wants to hang on to both of these guys. Imagine how good they will be in a few years.

I know I'm really late into this thread, and I'm not a big soccer fan, but did any of you people laugh your asses off as hard as I did after the Chelsea/Barca game?

All that shit-talk before the game, then they lose. And then they "Let" Chelsea get 3 quick goals... poor bastards don't know when to keep their mouths shut.

I didn't really laugh, cause till the whistle blew in that match either of those two teams could have won that game. It was honestly that close. Yeah, Barca did allow those quick 3 goals, but then they responded superbly with 2 of their own. Whatever you say about the fued between the two coaches of the team, the game itself was probably one of the most thrilling exhibition of world class football I have ever seen. Absolute end to end stuff which happens rarely in the chapions league.

Also, they didn't just let Chelsea score, it happened as a result of Chelsea's superb finishing and passing. Barca were vulnerable at their defensive holding position with a key player suspended. It was this position that Chelsea were able to exploit in getting that early start. Had Marquez been playing, perhaps the opening 30 minutes wouldn't have been the downfall of Barca's champions league dream.

No no, the quotes afterwards made it seem like they went easy on chelsea in the beginning. On top of that, the hand-ball was BULLSHIT! The first goal should never have happened for barca.

Posted by Kytracid on Mar-16-2005 21:32:

Well, the Spanish are notorious with their excuses/reasons on why they lost a football game. It's always some sort of conspiracy ! Maybe it goes to show just how passionate fans are about their team and this silly game. When they lose, they have to come out publicly and say these things to console their fans.

Still, Barca's departure is bad for the neutral fan. They play good attacking football, and have probably one of the most gifted player in the world. It's sad that he won't get to play on the centre stage of club football.

well then the winning goal shouldnt have counted for chelsea either, but thats life and mistakes are made.

and coaches are always trash talking... which i think adds to the fun
