didnt want to start a new thread about this matter so adding to the old one...

i went down to viva tonight to check out the new trance night. ive been curious for a while. so, um, i'm not gonna mention any names or anything. anyhow, there were 2 DJs there. one of them is someone we know, but not as a DJ (never knew the person played records). so this person was doing alright, fairly good transitions, not trainwrecked anyways. the second 'DJ' almost made me sick, and im not exagerating. i was shocked and repulsed, i would rather listen to azim and tazix play for a month and trainwreck then see and listen to this particular DJ. i am not trying to bash anyone here, im not like that. but anyone who has the nerve to call himself a DJ should at least be able to act like one (i.e., know how to mix).

im sorry if this sounds very harsh, but i am getting quite pissed off with people pretending to be DJs and doing this whole DJ/promoter/whatever thing when they are clearly lacking talent, misleading those who may not realize the fakes and fcking things up for others who know what they are doing by ruining the reputation of the music and the scene in this city

This is frustrating to hear as a DJ myself. It pisses me off when you get people that you describe, playing in the hottest clubs and they clearly have no idea where true talent lies.
Sounds like another case of who you know, and not what you know

ok guys i hope...

Guys i hope this time the TOILET BOWL is as clean as last time....for flushing purposes i mean
Viva is dannys turf no matter who spins there and how good he might be..DT has put a lot of time and effort into that venue. Its sad that the owners could not cater(well..didnt care actually) to his requests and needs which was nothing but the safety of the crowd and guests.

Elena focus on the mystery gurl cause we might just see her again...ur smart, can u figure when and where ??????

Viva is NOT a hot club. Why are they trying to do a new trance night? Probably because the UBC students aren't gonna be around until September. Then they'll drop the trance night and give it back to the students. Why are people going there at all? The owners don't give a crap about the safety of its guests. They have no problem molesting the customers during their patdowns, but then they don't know how to deal with a few unruly drunk patrons.

viva has had a trance night for a few years. i believe the people who did saturday nights just moved to fridays.

the few unruly drunk patrons weren't just nobodies btw

Vancouver is a trendy town

Everyone is a DJ/Producer/Promoter

soon everyone will be a label owner

TBH, im tired of these bedroom DJs/TA producers

just bores me

Hey :(

I moved my decks out to the living room so none of this bedroom DJ crap. Moving on up to a bigger space, now with seating!

Elena, speaking of bad DJs, the last time I saw you, I had tears of laughter/sadness at the atrocity that was being conducted and being passed off as mixing/DJng/music.

Was this one and the same?

I think I'll put together a pre-2000 trance set and post it somewhere.

Yeah, I know. (A different thread was locked last time and had a few posts removed.) Shit happens, but other clubs deal with it a lot better.

Except to kick the owner's ass!

KarateKid haha

I thought things ended on relatively good terms. Life goes on, and so do the parties.

Angry

AMEN ! Van SUCKS big time!!! Thank God for Twisted and em. Any "normal club nite" in this city sucks !!!!!!!

Posted by sw1 on May-24-2005 21:49:

WTF!

Hmm, huge crowds at the various shows this weekend, yet not enough to support one single weekly trance night! WTF!!!

Posted by 24K on May-24-2005 22:05:

People don't care about local djs, regardless if they can play 80% of the same tracks that someone like Armin plays... that's just life. And... people care as much about the closing hours of the party as they do about the quality of music or supporting djs/promoters. That's Vancouver for ya!

Posted by Tayfoon on May-25-2005 02:04:

This city's EDM scene will only change with a better After Hours, one that can sell booze and not super sketched

Posted by Mortyman on May-25-2005 03:32:

2 words

NEVER HAPPEN!

well, the way you put it. Booze and zero sketchiness? Good luck!

Sounds like the non-TA people are nothing but elitist snobs who are not into the music, but rather want to pad their resumes with the big name EDM DJs only. Oh, they claim they hate trance and progressive, except when Armin or Ferry or Paul Van Dyk play it. Then they go back to their top 40 and hip hop clubs the rest of the time to listen to the crap that the local radio stations play. Then you've got your underaged ravers who go to the all-ages events as an excuse to get stoned or tripped out or drunk, instead of going for the music.
