well. it might very well be true that ferry killed trance. don't get me wrong here though. i'm a fan of some ferry stuff myself, i got all gouryella records for example. but thats not the point. i didnt buy them because i wanna go to trance, because, honestly, they DONT PUT ME in a state of trance. i just listen to them because i think they're nice piece of music, thats it. the trance made back in the days, before ferrys days, was mainly made for another reason, to actually put the listener into trance. it was more repetative and hypnotic. and you can hardly say that about todays formulatic, cliched stuff. you can still enjoy it ofcourse, but to call it trance is wrong. and you can't deny that ferry had a huge impact on the entire scene in the laste 90's, which lead to lots and lots of similar stuff being produced and eventually the "real" trance died out.

wtf. So what if he has the same opinion as Ishkur? So what if they have the same opinion on EVERYTHING? It doesn't matter. Heck, I had alot of thoughts and opinions that matched with Ishkur's even before I came across his guide to EDM, and then when I found it I was like "hey, someone else has the same opinion as I".

And it's true, "real trance" is pretty much dead, much thanks to Tiesto and Ferry in the late 90s. Good or bad, that's up to you to decide. Fact is though, trance has become overly pussified and poppy, and I don't see anyone disproving that. Personally I prefer progressive trance from 96-00, I don't care much for classic/acid trance.

Neither FC nor Tiesto killed trance. If you want to blame someone for popularising big melodies blame Robert Miles and if you want to blame someone for making trance "mainstream"... blame Robert Miles. As for the monster breakdowns, DJ fucking Scot Project was raping them back when Ferry was best known as Moonman.

I havent listened to ISOS4 yet so I will just say comments on ASOST2005.

CD 2
I dont enjoy the first 6 songs all that much. Once Arcadia drops in I really start to enjoy this CD all the way until eye wall - bad deal. I love the Blank and Jones tune. But for the most part those 9 tracks have an interesting energy to them with the combination of their basslines that I enjoy.

CD 1
I enjoy this cd when I want something to sing along with. The first 4 songs are all vocal tunes that are very singable. I think the mix from first time to I know you're gone sounds awesome and almost like the two ladies are in the same room recording the songs back to back. My favorite track of these two cds is right after shivers(which i dont like that much) Enmass - Beyond Horizon.

That Scot....can't do anything good nowadays....

And about n0bben's post about Ferry killing trance. I think it's weird to pinpoint Ferry out of it all as 'the killer of trance', but I do think n0bben is right in the rest of his post.

I think the Enmass song is the worst in the whole CD

umm...actually ishkur came here and said he really blamed oakenfold, and that the ferry corsten thing in his guide was just a joke to really rile up trancecrackers.

Posted by iLL_usionNYC on May-03-2005 20:08:

gosh and i thought that trance or "trance" (whatever u like) was the only music that united people hehe...back on subject

i have both of those cds...and i like both of them too, although state of trance only cd 1 is good, i didnt pay too much attantion to cd2 it somehow didnt get to me.. as for ISOS4 it is good i thought that it was going to be worse to tell the truth..i dont know maybe i just wanted to hear something new..im getting tired of those all traxs played over and over again..

"Negative comments"... you've got to be fucking kidding me. It's my opinion. Oh, and if I didn't like trance, why is my name Auranaut?

Posted by nwopper on May-03-2005 21:29:

hmm.. the point i was refering to in that quote, was ishkurs definition of "progressive", which i agree totally with, whether he's serious or not.
