i'm in!!!

when and where!?!?!?!

Posted by 4anangel on May-20-2005 11:37:

I would like to see a SETA event mid-fall like Scott suggested. WMC is not a bad idea, however even trying to get TAs together for dinner was difficult. There is so much going and eveyone is doing something different. On top of that, most of the DJs we know are going to want to spin at big name clubs if they can and the clubs are not going to give up door money when they don't need to. An event like this would probably have a better turn out when nothing else is going on.

I suggest doing it outside or in a wharehouse where we are not affected by curfews like at a club. Plus if we are mainly advertising to TAs, I don't think the need for security will be very high, but if we are trying to throw a rave, that can change things quite a bit.

I think central fl or a little north would be good. Miami is too far from Atlanta and space is hard to find there. I know you want to throw parties in all 3 locations, but we all know TAs love to be together. If you start with one bad ass party that is centrally located, TA's from all over would come to it.

There is a warehouse on Ives Dairy Rd (1 minute from Aventura) that is rented out for parties. I haven't seen it, but it sounded cool when I heard about it this past week. I'm sure it would be easy to split the door with the owner. But I don't know about the sound system, or bar... I could find out. As for sponser, can we get Party 93.1.com to sponsor it? They can use their Rock money to fund it Muhahhaha I love the idea... put a rock station up to fund the edm events heheh

Do any of you have a legal background? Anyone?.... Anyone...??

Posted by el.maestro on May-23-2005 17:47:

Looks like the response has been favorable for this idea. After some thought discussion with a few TAs our goals would be the following:

a. To promote local talent in the South Eastern United States though hosting events showcasing local talent.
b. To advance the exposure of Electronic Dance music as a positive influence in our community

Having said that, weve, so far, concluded that:
Include all EDM in the effort makes sense because many DJs and producers work in other genres as well. This will also widen the potential audience who would potentially attend. If the events are to be a success, well all need to work together.

Of primary concern, and what will be looked into this week is identifying a venue and estimating price. Because the scope and focus have shifted somewhat, the first event being planned will probably be in Miami. Other cities are being discussed for future events such as Orlando and Atlanta.

In order for an event to be done in a city, there will need to be at least 1 person willing to go on the street and identify a venue. Orlando is looking promising from the response so far. Atlanta has just stepped up as well.

Ill be contacting everyone in the Miami area who PMed me about helping out for the next meeting. Miami, Orlando and Atlanta TAs Ill be in touch this week.

I could offer up the Mark here in Atlanta. It holds about 400 people and could be a great spot for this.

A lot of TA's alredy know this venue and its feesable without costing to much since I already have my Surface nights there.

Thoughts??

Welcome! You're just person we need in Atlanta. Last week, a few of us talked about different ideas on how to raise money for the events. Right now, the primary concern in other cities has been venue identification, and acquiring funds. For Atlanta, THE MARK would be perfect.

We threw around some different ideas on how to raise money and create a positive impact on the public concerning EDM (IE Carwash, compilation CD containing local talent sold for roughly $5 to raise money. Sponsorship is also nice as long as it doesnt conflict with the mission statement. This might be a non traditional way to get $$ to throw an event, but if we can make it work in 1 city, it might work in every city.

We're also developing the concept a bit further and thought of coordinating all activities and cash flow through a non profit organization (tax free The goal here is not necessarily to make a huge profit, but to make a positive impact on how the public sees EDM. Create an organization of music fanatics that will survive this thread and become our legacy.

P.S. Well piss off some Republicans

i think this is the greatest thing to come out of TA ever, seriously. I think we should try to do a SETA party at the Mark (or wherever, its an awesome idea) and if things go smoothly, prehaps try to organize a USTA party somewhere else and start having the Trance Addict Music Conference. Sounds good doesn't it? It would be awesome and a possible great way to get our DJ's heard by the people who make things happen!

My two cents:
if Hagan (surface atlanta) wants to help us pull this off, by all means lets do this at The Mark!!! I didn't see Liquified jumping up like Hagan did and offer us eleven50, nor did i see any Miami promoters willing to help out like this. Hagan, you rock.

I don't know how to DJ, but i am one hell of an organizer so if any help is needed with money management/bank accounts/logistics/etc, PM or IM me on AIM.

Hagen is a friend of mine but runs Maddhatter. Its me (Jonathan Allyn) who runs Surface. Not a big deal but I wanted to make sure we were all on the same page.

As far as the Mark is concerned for our Surface nights, the biggest thing is going to get people in through the door and to the bar. There are many things we can do to make this work but we need to come up with a dollar amount so we can figure out how to offset the costs.

So here are the questions we need to ask..

Flyer design = Surface will handle this part free of charge.
Printing = Depends on size, 1/2 page - 1/4 page?? "200 - 300$"
Promotions = New Step handles the distribution. Apprx = $300.00
Talent = Do we want a headliner or just TA locals.

If we get a headliner add...
Hotel -
Airfare -
Booking fee's -
Deposits, etc...

Thats about it. Right now we are around $600.00 - Not bad!
My recommendation is that we make it FREE for TA's who participate in making this night go off. That can be either in local promotions support, assisting with coordinating efforts & things like that. We can make it 10$ for everyone else.

I can talk to the owner about drink specials. So how many people can we expect from TA? I have NO problem putting my neck out to make this happen, we just need to make sure its going to be beneficial to the club thats opening the door on a friday night. While 400 people would be great thats not really what we need. I am just wanting to be realistic so when this is presented to the Mark I can let them know what are nitch is going to be.

Keep tagging this post & lets get this together!

Take care,
Jonathan Allyn

my bad, i had already associated the mark with hagan. we're definitely on the same page now

I think Scott should spin. I've seen you spin at WREK, i've heard you spin on WREK and various other locations, i think its time to take your skills (or should it be skillz ) to the club.

I think a night with TA's on the decks would be the most fun and would truly capture the spirit of the event itself.

Sounds good to me. So TA's it is. What does everyone else think?
