I believe that we have reached an agreement.

Too bad there's nothing the caliber of NWA out now. I can't even listen to the shit they call Hip-hop/rap now. None of it means anything and it's larely incoherent. Unintelligable bable set to music is all that it is now. What happened to Chuck D DAMNIT!

a lot of good shit in this thread.

the first record i ever bought on my own was in 1986 -- doug e. fresh and slick rick's "the show" with "la-di-da-di" on the b-side...

(second vinyl was eric b. & rakim's "my melody" on zakia records later that year -- i still have both)

first hip-hop show i ever attended was a teen show put on by BDP at club Ark in Brooklyn in 1990 which then became a block party.

tribe will always be one of the best groups of all time but their legacy will be forever tarnished for the way they fell off after midnight marauders. epmd was also was one of my favorite groups for their sheer consistency but then they fell into the whole cycle of drama and poor releases.

most consistent group that has emerged over the last 12 years is gangstarr - always doing their thing.

and brooks, phife was cool but putting him among the best lyricists? c'mon bro lol

(he did have some of the best one liners though: "bust a nut inside your eye to show you where i come from" lol)

quote:

As I sit in my b-boy stance
With flip-flops and socks, and sweatpants
We finna enhance your brain, check it out

Once upon a time not long ago
When the playa from the Pointe didn't have no flow
A nigga hit me for my tennis shoes, walkin to the sto'
Caught a nigga slippin, but now I lay it to the flo'
just like carbon, cuz I got the heat in my rhythm
Momma nay not, never braggin just to stay knot
Even when I was a younger lad I learned my lesson
Never talked to strangers in the trap and answered questions

The Pope and his folks got us under a scope
But for unknown reasons cuz we don't sell dope
That you distribute, we don't contribute, to your clandestine
activity, my soliloquoy, may be hard for some to swallow
But so is cod liver oil
You went behind my back like Bluto when he cut up Olive Oil
Two things I hate lies and thieves they make my blood boil
Boa constricted, on my soul that they call

Touched by the wheelz of steel...
Now show me how you feel...
Touched by the wheelz of steel...
Now show me how you feel...

It took your momma nine months to make it
But it only took a nigga thirty minutes to take it
Cut that kronk clean up I did, but I did so not safely
Don't want no AIDS, *clapping* no claps, or no rabies

Yo, we take no shit, like arms stuffed up commodes
Gotta collect call, they done locked up my folks
Low blow, hit me in the left ventricle
We won't be able to ride out till two thousand fo'

But not for long cuz we got a better sack to serve
Tryin to take you other people for your rims at the curb
Fore you swerve and bust ya forehead, go head, go head
More head for me, while you ride to the beat

Drop, like Tears, like For Fears, you know
Shout Shout let it all out, just for my peers
And pupils who feel like it's time to unwind
Like December 31st, on nineteen-ninety-nine

Okay, like this, yeah yeah
One time for my boy doing King shit
Two times for Legit and it don't quit
Three times for my folks in the drop top
Four times OutKast and it don't stop
One time for my cuz doing Queen thangs
Dead fresh to the teeth eatin chicken wings
Three times for my guhls in the beauty shop
Four times OutKast and it don't stop

I never really liked west coast rap...i am a New Yorker through and throguh ...but i will give the west coast credit for their innovation.

I agree rap today is junk...and i think it died in 94 with WuTangs first album...

the last truly great album was raekwon's "only built 4 cuban links" in 1995. there is still good hip hop today but you have search harder for it. this cat named Immortal Technique that i've been listening to for about 2 years now is truly impressive (and he's even better live).

the old guard of rap died in the end of 1992 -- this was the era where there were a few key songs and no matter when or where they came on (or where in the country you were) everyone knew the words and the lit up every party -- the last two songs of this era, were "Dwyck" and "nothing but a g thing", respectively.

The M.G.M. by Wu-Tang = skills

quote:

Yo, up in the M.G.M. coked up
Sike! Six niggaz walked in flashing they gems peace
Aight! One dark skinned nigga fifty-six inch rope
wrapped around twice Smash the Gilligan boat with ice
They threw sign language
Ordered hot coffee wit a danish
Relax -- whispered, "They rap entertainers"
Had Lizzy on, two Japanese birds with furs look good kid
Laid back handlin hors d'ourves It's like round three
We too black for BET
You memorize the 1 to 40
I'm at the 19th degree
If a civilized person doesn't perform, his duty
What shall be done?
Pardon me God, that nigga gotta gun bulgin out his sweatpants,
check out his stance
See the side of his grill?
Look like my cousin Lance
Left hand rock a Guess watch
Yo I think I did his Clarks he wore the crush bone leather
with the strings dark
Now I remember
he from Bear Mountain
He and Mitch Greene shot the fair one near the water fountain
Seventh round, Chavez bleedin from his right ear
Yo keep ya eye on that same nigga from right here
Popcorn spilling all on Liz Claiborne
Ghost had the fly Gucci mocks wit no socks on
Seen Deion Sanders in the back with the fat fur on workin dem hoes with the fly Wu shirts on
Mixed drink session Dunn
Pour me some more
Chef leathered down blinking at Chante Moore
Tenth round Chavez tearin em down
Sweet Pea get ya shit off
It's like blacks against the Germans
Gettin hit off
Smooth and them walked in
Brownsville representin
They sent a bottle over, autograph blessin
Chef pull out the doodle twist the dank pink noodles
Yo I'm bout to roll one
Yo they wound up stoppin the fight
Steels took a point away from Chavez

Main Source - Looking Out The Front Door

We fight every night, now that's not kosher
I reminisce with bliss of when we was closer
And wake up to be greeted by an argument again
You act like you're ten
So immature, I try to concentrate on a cure
And keep lookin' at the front door
Thinkin' if I were to evacuate
You'd probably be straighter than straight
And wouldn't have so much hate
'Cause you don't know the pain I feel when I see you smilin'
And when I roll up you start wilin'
So I front like everything's hunky-dory
But it's a whole different story
You don't like the fact that I'm me
I don't put on a show
When it comes time for you to have company
And your friends don't understand your choice of man
They speak proper while my speech is from a gargabe can
But regardless, you shouldn't have to be so raw
I'm lookin' at the front door

I'm lookin' at the front door
Baby, I'm lookin' at the front door
I'm lookin' at the front door

hhhhm hahmhmhmmhmh hamhmhmhmmhmh hhammhmhmhmmhmh

lol

i think your "being cool" days are over too

Posted by tiesto14 on May-27-2005 16:48:

Sister, there's no need in speeding
She was doing lays before she started bleeding
What makes a bitch want to act in this fashion?
Pulled more stunts than my man Action Jackson
A real gold winner just like Bruce Jenner
Lay the bitch on the bed and then you run right in her
Puba makes no mistakes
She said Rock me tonight (for old time's sake)
Picture that
(Slow Down)
You little hooker
Honey got a problem with the bends
Meaning she likes to bend over, and then she spreads the skins
The hoe is just hoe and that's without no controversy
She can make the bedsprings sing a song of mercy
Come on toots you can take a thousand douche
Scrub that ass and I'll still pass

They were part of a gang called Rough House that ran NewRo...see if you can find a rap group call Rough House Survivors...they were some other members of that gang from NewRo that Puba produced...their sound is jus like Brand Nubians first CD...but thye throw in some reggae...

Its all love . . .

I dont eat no meat, no dairy, no sweets

Only ripe vegetables, fresh fruit and whole wheat

Im from the old school, my household smell like soul food, bro

Curried falafel, barbecued tofu

No fish though, no candy bars, no cigarettes

Only ganja and fresh-squeezed juice from oranges

Exercising daily to stay healthy

And I rarely drink water out the tap, cause its filthy

Lentil soup is mental fruit

And ginger root is good for the yout

Fresh veg-e-table with the mayatl stew

Sweet yam fries with the green calalloo

Careful how you season and prepare your foods

Cause you dont wanna lose vitamins and miner-ules

And thats the jewel

Life brings life, its valuable, so I eat what comes

From the ground, its natural

Let your food be your medicine (uh huh)

No excederin (uh uh)

Strictly herb, generate in the sun, cause I got melanin

And drink water, eight glasses a day

Cause thats what they say

They say you are what you eat, so I strive to be healthy

My goal in life is not to be rich or wealthy

Cause true wealth comes from good health, and wise ways

We got to start taking better care of ourselves

They say you are what you eat, so I strive to be healthy

My goal in life is not to be rich or wealthy

Cause true wealth comes from good health, and wise ways

We got to start taking better care of ourselves, be

Healthy yall . . .

Yeah, yeah, yeah, hold the fuck up, yo

Well take this little intermission, listen what the

Fuck we gotta say, yknow?

Word is bond son, niggaz been livin fat for too long, knowamsayin?

Smokin bogeys, fuckin drinkin all types of shit

Wailin out, not givin a fuck what they puttin in they

Bodies, son, knowamsayin?

bout time niggaz start thinkin about that shit, son, knowamsayin?

That shit is fuckin, makin us deteriorate, son

Word up, we gotta care bout our little babies an shit, son

Niggaz got kids to raise, straight up

Ya gotta start learnin yo self, learning bout ya health, son

Learnin this world we live in, kid, knowamsayin?

Its time to start changin all that shit god, word up

So Im gonna leave yall niggaz on some shit like that, ya knowamean?

Word up, yall niggaz better start usin yall minds an

Shit, kid

Peace

"Be Healthy" by Dead Prez hahaa oh, another fave is "Kill em' live" by Public Enemy. Even more energy than "B.O.B" by Outkast which is always fun. I only found that because of Bulworth.

ihope u dont mean wu tang killed it cuz enter the wu-tang[36 chambers] was one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time...

puffy killed hip hop man... by making it super commercial... biggest genres in the states USED to be rock, pop and country but after 1997 and puffy's super commerical success, hip hop is one of the most selling genre in the states.. it has become pop rock country and hip hop... look at the charts, at least there are 2-3 hip hop albums in the top 10... the whole scene is changed.. wu-tang are one of the very few hip hop artists that never sold out.. i went to the gza concert at bb kings on monday btw.. off the fuckin hook.

Maybe someone could help me

Around 1992 there was a long ass rap song that had maybe 6 different rappers on it...all unknown i beleive...but the chorus had a sample of Woody Woodpecker doing his funny laugh.

I have been trying to figure out who the hell that was since 96 when i lost the cassette...

does ANYONE have a clue who it was?
