Me and my mate always talk about mixing techniques...

Do you agree that for your average melodic trance sets, its best to keep mixing basic, but tight, giving the set a nice flow with programming.

In my opinion at least, it isnt possible to scratch and fx all over certain genres (not without it sounding shit anyways) but with others it makes it so much better.

Additionally, what are peoples thoughts on advance DJ skills on home mixes as appose to doing the tricks live?

Sometimes I reckon most things will onyl be passable live, unless of course the DJ is extremely skilled. Zabs, etc.

Eddie Halliwell? Save it for club mate.

So how do u think about the mixing of PVD live at colourfest?

some stuff i usually do...real basic but hey..something...

Track A I usually let it ride until a break before the song breaks down..but not like a break down in which the song goes into the deep build up...i mean mean literally break down in which theres like 1 minute or 50 somehting seconds left...then i bring in Track B with the Lows killed and the hi's lowered a bit...once the bassline is about to begin on Track B (which is usually before a break or some sound effect or something, I bring in the bass (bring up the lows) on Track B and Kill the bass on track A...on the next break of track A or just when the hats die or the track ends, i kill the Hi's on track A and brign up the Hi's on Track B...and so on and so forth...sometimes use the pahser on the break of a track beofre the bass kills with a flanger or a phaser...
my 2 cents

After reading this whole post I'm surprised to see no one posted this:

Its James Zabiela doing crazy scratch techniques with CDJ1000s and a Pioneer EFX 500 unit. I call it Effect Texturing. But call it what you want, some very interesting stuff.

Good info, but has been around the forums for a little while. Probably why no one posted it.

Cheers
