Darth Maul did look ever so cool though. And while I was checking to make sure I was right about him being played by a scot I saw this.....

Maul combined his swordsmanship with incredible acrobatic and hand-to-hand combat skills, making him a nearly unstoppable dervish of destruction.

Of course that was just something somebody told me and a quick search of the internet suggests that it is bollocks, but yes, that would be pretty "badass" if true!

I just watched this film recently, thought it quite good. It breaks apart the reasons as to why Anakin went to the dark side, and honestly, wouldn't you as well? I would have.

The only thing that threw me off, is that everything was well paced except for one part... how did he go from battling with himself whether or not he made the right decision to go to the dark side to murdering all those children? WAY too fast of a drop into the dark side... it was this ongoing battle, and then a sudden RAH! I'M EVIL moment.

Well he went to Tatooine in the last film and slaughtered a tribe of Sand People including their kids so ya know, its not like the writing wasn't on the wall already!!

'ere. Had no one read my sig?

I had to take a break from my on-line life for a while and I'm coming back soon. I didn't make a mess out of it because, first of all, the PDD is quite well organised and my influences here are minimal. Second because I thought it would be better to hide stealthly so chaos wouldn't .... erm, never mind

By the way, I was the one who moved the thread after I had been warned by a pm because I did believe that such discussion was supposed to be on the Chill Out Room rather than here but if you really think that this topic belong here, well, I'll let the users decide it. There was a "copy" link here so you could know that this thread was moved from here.

Finally, the best thing about star wars is this And I remember Chewbacca got Han Solo out of a fridge. That was cool too.

Well, take care of yourself while you're gone! We'll stand guard against the forces of evil until you come back.

Not only that, but strangling Padme - the person who he wanted to save by turning to the dark side

Yes, that was a bit off as well. Especially when she's the whole reason he went "dark" to begin with!

Come on, Anakin is someone who is unable to control his powerful emotions, are you going to tell me when people loose control of their emotions they don't hurt people, even the ones dearest to them?

I'd like to think not.

Posted by kush paintings on Jun-10-2005 18:21:

You'd like to think not, but it happens all the time, in fact the FBI once said that a woman is beaten every 15 minutes by a husband or significant other.

But surely, a confused, person who is unable to control his emotions such as Anakin would never do such a thing.

Unfortunately reality isn't quite like that - just ask poor Little Mo...

So you're trying to justify the beating that a woman gets from her husband? Usually a husband knows for a fact that he's beating on his wife, and that his wife is too hopeful that he'll stop to just walk away, or she's in fear of her life should she leave.

You're telling me you would just choke your wife if you were confused in a situation rather than figuring out what happened first? Kill the bitch, figure it out later, that's what you're saying? Even confused people would take a minute to completely figure something out before just killing their SO.

Posted by kush paintings on Jun-10-2005 22:41:

Im not saying its right at all, just that it happens. I would never, ever hit a woman, unless she was threatening my life. In a moment of frustration with a person who cannot control their emotions (Anakin), who weild tremendous power, the chance of violence happening is hightened. Although I felt Anakin became bad too quickly, I do not see this part as a character mistake at all.

Posted by trancaholic on Jun-10-2005 22:57:

The explanation that Anakin reacted out of frustration - lost control of himself - when he strangled Padme, is not really in thread with the supposed rules of the Star Wars universe. When you become a Jedi you train your powers by focusing and concentrating. You train your mind to be calm in hectic situations - zen style. If Anakin loses his grip on reality as quickly as it's portrayed in this bad excuse for a movie, then he could never had become a Jedi.

Posted by kush paintings on Jun-10-2005 23:22:

Well, as said by the Sith lord, they are more powerful than the Jedi because they use their emotion, they fight with passion. The Jedi do not believe in emotion, that is why Anakin failed to be the Jedi he was supposed to. But because Anakin cannot control the emotions he has does not mean he wouldn't be capable of the powers he weilded, in fact you could argue that this character flaw makes his powers stronger.

Luke destroys the ring and Bilbo destroys the sphere. Woops, Luke destroys the sphere and Bilbo destroys the ring. So difficult to keep two representations of the same thing seperate.

Yeah except he got his ass whooped by Obi. He thought too much of himself and ended up getting his whole body cut off and then burned into nearly ashes. After all of his training for so long in the Jedi world, a few days onto the dark side and his head blows up to the size of the earth so that he could think he'd actually WIN that fight? Pffft.

Posted by kush paintings on Jun-11-2005 20:49:

I don't see why this isn't plausable. His transformation to the darkside is too quick, but his actions are in line for where his character stands. The Sith believe their emotions make them more powerful, and if channelled properly they most likely do, however the Sith are uncapable of ever truly controlling their emotions, for that would contradict their belief in a crave for more power, thus also a crave for strong emotion. Anakin was blinded by hate, not cockyness, and that was why he got Lt. Daned.
