| Originally posted by Shafer8 Think about this, imagine traveling, spinning, partying, traveling, flying, time differnce ect ect. I am sure there are days he shows up not feeling the best he should. Anyway you look at Tijs, he is a great producer, great DJ and great showman which in all reality should help the EDM scene to where it needs to be. If we all start hating on things like most haters do it just boggs things down. I hate alot of music but i respect it and the artists. |
As I've said many times before, I don't personally think Tiesto sucks, nor is he a bad producer.
But I do think he's lost a lot of passion. Especially when it comes to DJing.
If Tiesto wants to focus and concentrate on a set, he can be the best. I mean, absolutely the best. When it comes to sets that have absolutely blown me away, his sets are ahead of the game, IMO. Although, the last set of his that I can recall off the type of my head that I consider completely mindblowing was his Amnesia Ibiza from July 28, 2003. Those two hours are just OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!
But it comes down to that.examples.
Last June, Tiesto played here in San Francisco and played a decent set. Nothing great, but solid.
The very next night I saw him at Avalon and thought he was horrible. His track selection was just whack and his mixing was subpar.
I didnt go the next night at Avalon again, but everyone says it was a complete 180 from his Saturday night set. Simply awesome.
In December.
I saw Tiesto here in SF and thought his set was GREAT. The crowd sucked, but the set was NOICE. Pretty progressive, though. But still, he didnt sit around talking to the girls all over the stage. He buckled up and focused on the decks and it showed. Beautiful track selection, mixing, etc. It was unfortunate it was only two hours.
I forgot where else he played that week, might have been in LA or maybe it was Vegas, but againthe reports were he was fucking up. Not paying attention. etc etc. boring.
So as I said, I feel the problem people should have with him is not over the quality of his mixing abilities or track selections, but rather the passion put towards them. When that passion and focus is there, he is still the shiznot.
I really hate talking any type of shit about Tiesto. He was my favorite DJ the second my brother-in-law brought me back some mix CD of his in like 1997 while he was in Amsterdam. He is still my favorite DJ deep down today, which is why I will always have hope for Tiestojust like I have hope for Oakenfold.although my hope for Oakey is fading at this point.
But that's just me.
I agree
Dave I have to agree with you on some points. First off I love Tiesto and he still by far is my favorite DJ. I have seen him play so-so sets...but still most of the time when he is "on" blows everyone away. Not this last WMC, but the one in 04' he tore the roof off of Space when he played a 6 hour set that is still the top of any set I've ever seen...and I've been to Ibiza, Miami, the Netherlands for sets, so I feel that I can get a good perspective.
HOwever, one must remember it is not easy to be "on" all the time and you will see some of the great ones not play so well. PVD, Sasha, Diggers, Van Burren, have all been good but also so-so at times. I will say that Oakie has been done for a few years now. I just don't think he has the passion for it.
My question for some of the Tiesto-haters is why you spend so much time trying to prove he sucks. Your wasting your time...there's plenty of DJ's I don't like, but I'm not going to go out of my way to bash them to the fans of them. It's totally pointless.
Just my thoughts. And I can't wait for TIC in LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some good points there.
I have seen Tiesto play 9 times and he has blown me away every time except for once he had an off night in Miami. This is what I think a big problem is:
The Crowds
It's kind of a mutual thing, but when the crowd is good, Tiesto is good. When the crowd is maybe 50% people who don't really know him, his music, or productions, he loses some of his normal amazing ability to read and feel a crowd. When the crowd is there to see him and he wants to play, he can play pretty damn good, definitely one of the best at mixing and IMO the absolute BEST at track selection at the right time. He knows when to put the right record on at the right time, so even if a mix isn't perfect, he makes up for it.
I like some of his recent productions. You can't stay producing the same types of tunes forever. Some are not that great, but most are good. And Tijs is one hell of a nice guy, Rare for someone in his stature, but he enjoys all of the attention which is another factor in how he's made it to where he is today. I first saw him in Toronto at the Docks in 2001 and he rocked the place, then I moved to North Carolina. We went to Atlanta where he played a small club and hung out with everyone afterwords. I told him I we drove 4 hours to see him and he was like "I hope it was worth it." We were like "Oh hell yeah it was". I gave him a picture I took of him at the Docks and he kept it on his mixer the whole night. Pretty sweet
The dj booth was right in the corner of the club with not much separating him from ther crowd and it was like he was playing at a house party just enjoying everything.
Ok, so is there a SF TIC planned this summer? I should ask before I buy the LA tix. Dave? Anybody? I'm going to Coldplay in SF the day before TIC in LA, and I really don't want to drive down after the show. Thanks for any quick replies you guys might have.
no SF TIC
Tiesto Tix at 10am!
oh and I will say this tho for Tiesto. ISOS 2 is my all time fav trance compilation. I've listened to that cd more times than any other cd in my collection. That album totally changed my view of trance.

Sorry, for that venue those prices are a fucking ripoff.
VIP would be the only thing worth it to me personally as long as the full open bar is setup well and easy to access w/o long ass waits...

Dave
Anyone see that the entire show is from 8:30pm - 1:30am? Not even all night.
So my guess.Tiesto comes on at 9:30pm and plays for four hours. Even if he does play for five, that's a ripoff dude.
Dave
That's pathetic. On top of that, probably an after party somewhere for another $50-$100...No way Tiesto will sit idle after 1:30am in LA..that time on a saturday night has got to be worth at least another 30k. cha-ching.

After Hours Power / Club Crasher is doing the VIP area...

I think you're right (re: Avalon)...it's time for my favorite word! Cluster-fuck!!!
I'm guessing you won't be there...
FYI the $200 VIP ticket does include OPEN bar AND a TIC Tshirt.
Is it just me or is there something seriously wrong with this?
Are you sure this isn't for Yanni in concert rather than Tiesto?
Dave I am in complete agreement with your prior posts on this topic. And the December show you referenced above was in San Diego. Although the girl in the booth that was distracting Tiesto was also distracting me and every other male in attendance.
And no I am not trying to be a ball buster. If Tiesto plays down here in a club I'll be the first one in line like I always have. Shoot I was listing to the 2003 Ibiza set on my way to work today.
btw I thought they were going to tear down the LA Sports Arena after the Clippers left? It's a friggin concrete cave in a sub par area.
omfg i die! LOL. VIP is where i'll be at. its so fuckin worth it i think. if you are out in general admission...thats like 70 bux for the ticket...and say you get like 10 drinks at $10/each, a fuckin tshirt would be like $30 out there...thats 200 bux right there. And you would be stuck in the mob of people far away from the DJ booth. $200 for VIP which includes open bar, tshirt, and to be able to get backstage and the opportunity to take a pic with Tiesto himself...thats a good deal i think.
