It was a triangle of hosery. We all thought that the other two knew each other. |

Great Review Marg......
yeah I totally suck for missing out on this night.
All I have to say is ...Why the hell is Deep Groove not opening for more headliners in the mainroom? Their set in the front room on Friday, as per usual, was far better than any opening set I have heard in System in the last few months. Evil P IMO was dreadful and had to be deaf on Friday as you couldn't even stand at the back of the mainroom without covering your ears. Someone finally set him straight and got his levels sorted out but he wasn't up there long. I attempted to return to the mainroom when his sound improved but heard a Nelly track being mixed in and just couldn't support it
Brad's programming, mixing and tracklist was very impressive (loving the techy electro stuff that he and many of the local DJs are pumping out these days) but he didn't do much to get the crowd warmed up IMO. I know you can't outshine the headliner but it just seemed flat and uninspired. Ariel and Alex would have delivered something hot for us... I am sure of it.
I really enjoyed what I heard of Digweeds set although I was only able to stay until about 4am as we had to drive to Sudbury really early on Saturday. (Tordan, after leaving the front room we hung about on the left side of the stage as there was a great cold pocket on the dancefloor. I found the area where all the TAs were hanging out too hot for me so I didn't get to see many of you after the front room chats...sorry). The part of Digweed's set that I see experience was DARK, techy-electo and really well programmed as Margs stated early. Was definitely what I was hoping for from him. Wish I could have stayed the duration of the night to see how the rest of it played out.
Big hello and hugs to all the new TAs I meet in the front room.
DIGWEEEEEEED made my bootey shake shake shake!!!!!!!!

It was awesome seeing everyone! Lots of laughs with Margs - Keepin the boys egos in check
I really wasn't feeling the vibe at all..
Totally not myself. We'll blame the heat...
Lookin forward to Lawler!
See ya again soon and I'll bring the real Callie5 with me
Really wanted to go to this but had to pull out at the last second, sounded like an awesome party

This night was all about the Transvestite in beige. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

He'd flirt with SO many people and they'd be completely clueless that she rocks a cock. The best line I heard all night, this guy I know, mitch, walks up to her and goes "You've got big tits" and he/she goes "And a full cock!"
GOLD!!
I had a great time. I think Brad Copeland played some amazing amazing tracks. What I remember is dreamlike progressive with basslines that just made you wanna move. I found it fit very well with Digweeds set (which was very tech housey with dreamy james holden ala balance 005 style, and johns own Kiss100 style as of late. circa 05-15-05)
Digweed played for much longer than we all had expected. The vibe in the place was great. Definately reminded me of system 2-3 years ago. PACKED. I loved seeing the place crowded. I felt at home here.
Only problem was, I couldn't stay put and dance. I dunno, I think the disco bisquits I had just made me wanna be social. Kinda regret not getting completely lost in the music. At one point, to my right, were the tranceaddicts. Directly behind me were my hamilton crew. And to my left were the tribers I came with.
After digweed, I drove to Barrie/Orillia for a camping trip. Get there to be pleasantly surprised by an untapped keg.
Then the day after, I make it home, and end up at Pulse Nightclub in Toronto. Hmmmm. Now I'm contemplating a small boat party with friends up in Burlington, but my body's saying no.....
I'd give shoutouts but a weekend FULL (and I mean FULL of partying) has made my brain mush and my memory non-existant.

Karim
ah...
Had a fun copeland-digweed-copeland dancathon. paying for it now! but oh well, it was well worth it. I had just the kind of club presence I needed and wanted.
hung out with some friends, fimiliar faces, lots of TAs old an new- and all in all a kick ass crowd. The vibe was unbelievable and I am on tired and satiated little teddy bear today.
g'night TA Land.

I have to stop doing this......posting way after the fact.......
This weekend has been a blur from 9 am Friday morning until 6pm Sunday........3 hours sleep the whole weekend
......here goes......
Got to System at 10 thinking that there would be a line-up.......nope.....so got to hang out in the front room and chat it up with JoinT, StereoPrincess, Raiban, Newr, Callie5, B4K-OZ, TD and Val, AngelGirl, MaxQ and others..........
Adam Green spun a wickid set...........some good acid house was played in the front room - an anthem from my past and one of the first house tracks I have heard in a club - ROYAL HOUSE - CAN YOU FEEL IT (86/87).......Todd Terry's shit was sick back in the day - and it had been a while since I had heard this track - this set me in a great mood for the night......
Evil P - wasn't "diggin" it.....hung out front for some more tunes and chats.......patio for smokes......
Copeland came on - and he really does play well at System..... everytime I see him he spins good music and his opening and closing sets for Digweed were spot on.......no way to anticipate before Diggers (but he did!).....and the follow through afterwards..... excellent track listing Brad!!!........
JOHN DIGWEED - I cannot say anything bad about this guy......every time I have seen him he has done what I like about his DJ style/ability......he reads the crowd extremely well - programming and track set-up is amazing......mixing was near flawless......I cannot think of anything that was wrong with this set.......I lost all sense of time and place when he spun......it is true that he is not spinning that sound from late 99-2002 but is indeed playing a variation of it that was quite welcomed for its edgy techy basslines and arpeggiated mid-ranges......chunky proggy - electrotechnotrance......I do not know what to call it - expect FUCKING AWESOME....TALK ABOUT TEARING IT UP!!....did not recognize many of the tunes (WHICH I LOVE when I go out)....so my ID'ing of tracks this time is horrible.....3 years ago I would have been all over this tracklisting.....but haven't been keeping up on my house/prog charts and DJ mixes as well as I should.....
I FREAKED OUT WHEN HE PLAYED HALE BOPP
this track by DER DITTE RAUM....from the album Raumgleiter (Spaceglider) 1999 was one of my favourite tracks from the Sasha/Digweed - Expeditions cd - they were at the height of their careers (as a duo) and their subsequent take over of NEW YORKS TWILO nightclub monthly parties put New York back on the clubbing map as Industry closed its doors in TO.......
Hale Bopp a timeless classic German prog gem in the vain of (harthouse/Eye-Q/Sven Vath)......I have never tired of this track and I have heard it played out 3 times already this year and am glad that it has come back into the sets of some of the top jocks......so many people missed this track the first time around and such a sweet track to end his set off with........I danced like a mo-fo that night and the crowd was WICKID - super vibes and alot of unfamiliar faces......I was a bit surprised that it wasn't more packed than it was...DIGWEED AT SYSTEM (IMO - THE BIGGEST NAME they have had their YET!!) should have been rammed...if people have a negative vibe about System....I do not know what gives????? I would rather go to a System party than to any party at the GUV....you can always dance....the crowd is actually educated and loyal and there for the music and the intimacy that comes with the smaller space and location of the DJ booth makes the memories of the party that more intense.....I will always say that the System staff - from the Bartenders to the Bouncers to the Promoters - are some of the nicest club-workers in the biz in TO....and I thoroughly enjoy the times I spend there......(which have been quite often over the last 5 years).
Thanks to everyone who came out - you know you had a good time - and those that couldn't make it - a legend of EDM threw down a set of EPIC proportions IMO - some may bitch and chew that it was not like his other stuff - but it is not 2000/2001 anymore - music has changed and the DJ's that continue to impress me are the ones that know what direction to take it to next and JD did just that.......a perfect night on so many levels..........too bad it was not recorded - to listen to it in retrospect would give it that much more clarity of vision........Nat and Graham said he was WICKID in Tel Aviv and I can see exactly why they said this.......9.5/10
Shit, what an exhausting weekend. First this, then Ultra at Guv. IMHO, this was a MUCH better party. The last two hours of Copeland's set were amazing. I'm gonna have to go see this guy more often at Surface in Ottawa. Met him and chatted a bit, took a few pics with my girl, he's a really nice guy. The vibe of the place was just incredible. Everyone looked like they were having a really good time. Definitely one of the better nights in the last few months. Digweed was pretty good, but nothing special.
