-- Is liking Trance an embarassment where you are???
Pages (8): « 1 2 [3] 4 5 6 7 8 »
Yeah, but I say f-ck them all and blare it out your windows.
Thats what I do, at least.
It's only an embarassment around people that don't know what trance actually is.
Trance has definitely become a dirty word, probably due to all the crappy pop acts. Maybe you should just word it differently - try and summarise the music you like without using the word "trance" and you'll be fine.
So true

I'm not embarassed to admit that I like trance. Neither is there a need to be embarassed for liking it.
In my neck of the woods, house prevails above all else. There is also a healthy dnb and breaks scene down here in Bangkok. Trance is almost non-existent. But the hatred is not as direct as open as probably other places around the world. Most people stick to the music they like but they don't complain about other genres that they dislike. Of course, there's always the elitist cockwanks.
However, psy-trance is popular at the islands and there is quite a following in Bangkok as well.
Sadly, there is only one place that hosts regular psy-trance nights twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays.
A few of my buddies that are all about rap like to rag on me for trance etc. I tell them they are stupid; their rap music was made with the same machines and computer programs used to make the trance I listen to.
Who cares what anyone says if you're a trancehead in a negative way?? People can dislike it, but people that hate on it and dont give it credit arent 1337 enough for trance to begin with.
To me...trance is exclusive. Its for a few people who escape the never-ending bullshit that comes with American (for me anyway) "popular" music.
I'd rather have unique exclusivness rather than "be like everyone else" on the bandwagon.
In Colorado, where Im stationed, people are more open to trance. They still prefer their mainstream crap....but usually respect and appreciate trance.
Kentucky however...lol. All the young white kids here think they are black. So trance is "that gay techno shit". I still blast it everywhere I go though. Fuck the masses.
I'll Never stop lovin the trance
Lot's of my friends like hardcore and hardstyle. This is very popular in Holland. I like it too, I like to go to hardstyle-parties, but I go for the energy and to get rid of my anger i guess
But noone really likes trance, they call it "for sissies" , "sleep-music" , "can't dance to it" , "has no energy" etc. etc.
Trance isn't liked here. Most people here like hiphop/rnb or old hardrock/metal music (ac/dc, metallica and such). Most people connect the word trance to Scooter and Tunnel Trance stuff, so liking trance is kind of taboo here. I'm not embaresst at all about loving trance though, people respect what I listen to now that I have my own radioshow.
I'm not embarrased to say i like trance. Infact if they try and bag it i just start bagin' the shit out of there music and always win.
People here dont like the airy fairy bullshit like airwave, out of the blue, xpander and so on. They like the harder more energy stuff like Cafe del mar, Carte Blanche, Hennes & Cold stuff, and i do too.
Its got to have bass and needs to build up to a melody.
Oh yeah, forgot to say that I think no-one of the "mainstream" ppl here do even know what Progressive is.
who cares what anyone thinks, if u like a style of music then listen to it proudly. I love trance, but hey, i also like hip-hop, hard rock, alternative, classical, celtic, grunge, capoeira music, and all sorts of other styles. I think that a true musician will like many styles of music, it give u an open mind to be more creative when u produce your own music. So listen to what u like a f### what anyone else thinks, play it loud and proud.

If you tell someone you like trance they will reply "oh you like Tiesto and Armin and that cheese?" Dont want to be associated with those guys :Q |

I wouldnt say that I am embarrased to admit I like trance,
but the climate in my region doesnt respect it very much either. I guess it is the same here as anywhere else in this country, most people are oblivious to EDM in general, and in turn have misunderstandings when they hear someone call a song 'trance music'.
The general population seems to be oblivious to all forms of EDM, not just trance.
But among the EDM following portion of the local population, trance is the least appreciated style. It is really cool to hate on trance, I imagine it will remain this way and wont change back to the way it was. Around here the EDM hierarchy is (in order from large to small) DnB, Breaks, Electro, Prog, Hardcore, House, Trance. You will rarely ever hear somebody play a trance song in this state, house is also rare, but has a small club presence in some places. People generally make fun of kids, or think that they are naive, when they realize that the person likes the trance. But it is like other places, several years ago every single one of those kids were raving their eyes out to that same stuff, which they now act like never happened.
I'm tempted to think that everybody here are a bunch of vain shallow sheep puppets, but I think that if I was a bit older I would have been saying the same shit about disco when it was dying.
The kids around here have formed a little trance cult, there are house parties occasionaly, which are pretty much the only chance I get to hear any trance music that I don't play for myself. I really like the little group of friends taht it has created, none of them really seem to be interested in acting cool or following trends, a great funloving group of people, fun parties with good music, sure it is small but it is all I really need.
I know I've argued on behalf of trance music pretty aggresively on these forums before, but lately I've just been too tired to bother with it, and also realized that I wasnt really helping anything by typing out all that bullshit. It just doesnt matter if most people don't like the music, as long as some of us stuff do. People seem to complain about trance for the same reasons that I enjoy it, and even then the things they often complain about are just as present in the form of music that they enjoy. I dont think I will become one of those kids who lies about the things that they used to like in order to appear more trendy, Trance music has given me so many happy memories I couldn't just act like it never happened.
I'm not embarassed about liking it because it is the first thing I tell people if they ask, but it isn't something huge around here.
Once you get closer to Toronto, more and more people like it, but still, all in this area it's mostly rap/hip hop music that you'll hear.
I don't even have 1 close, nearby friend that enjoys trance/house. It sucks.
im not embarrased the least.
when i say it im just like "i like techno."
no reason saying trance and having to maybe explain it more to some1 who wouldnt understand anyway.
or care at that matter.
people that know me just hate the progressiveness element to trance.
Why whould i be embaressed when Trance music give me ALOT of energy and make me feel SO Happy and cool.
lets face it, its better than most shity music these days, like:
rock music: they are all boring and pretty MUCH THE SAME!!!
R&B music is all About showing off with big cars, hot chicks and big house... there is alot to it that I cant even be assed to mention.
My friends might not like trance music but they will respect the fact that I like it, and I respect everyone else choices. Ofcors you can always ignor the ignorant and narrow minded people.
besides I find it cool to be difrent, listening to trance is kinda like being difrent with others in cool way. or thats just what I think
Peace!
It's mostly the girls i find that can't seem to get into it. Which is weird because it's mostly EDM that they play in A&C
Well, any music that isnt mainstream is usually shunned, but remember your awesome cause you like new stuff.
