High decibels are what damages. Decibels and frequency are two different things. In fact, if you want to use frequency as your argument, you should of said "low" frequencies damage hearing. That's why BASS damages your ears, while TREBLE is just simply annoying. Example: think of a dog whistle. It functions at an extremely high frequency, but it doesn't affect humans. Clear?

just what this board needed

more needless drama

lol...high frequencies are more susceptible to damage FROM intense sounds... hence the reason why most elderly people have high frequency hearing loss... since u want to get advanced, the basilar membrane localizes sound, transmitting in into an electrical impulse... each frequency is localized at a specific spot, with high frequency sounds being towards the base... which only begins to explain why higher frequencies are affected so significantly... u misunderstood my original post if u interpreted it to mean "high frequencies cause more hearing loss" the dB level is what causes the damage, your sense of higher frequency hearing is more prone to damage

most clubs have crappy sound systems that make your ears ring for days if you are near the speakers for too long

there's only a select few clubs with upscale enough sound equipment that wont damage your ears, i.e. CROBAR, ROXY (wish they still had sick parties there ), so earplugs are definitely the way to go if you want to hear the evolution of music throughout your lifetime

great thread guys. thanks for the good read.

i personally never used to wear ear plugs cuz they are annoying but after being at space so many times now i cant do it any other way.

i dont doubt for a second that my hearing has been damaged quite a bit from that place. i still feel the damage in my left ear that was caused by ferry turning the highs up waaaaay too much in jan 2004. that shit still hurts. and space ruined my right ear during wmc this year when i was too paranoid about that shit and the ear plug actually broke off in my ear. got it out but man it hurt like hell!!

i just love leaving a club, taking the ear plugs out and not having the ringing in my ears. its pure bliss.

and tiesto14, i HIGHLY doubt you've never had ringing in your ears. anything louder than a vacuum cleaner causes damage.

i guess i should worry about the damage being done to my ears. hearing is priceless if music is your greatest love. that said - i am broke - are there any cheap earplugs that will help for now?
