I don't think England will be able to reach 300+

Posted by Trance Nutter on Jul-23-2005 10:36:

not long now and the target will be 400........

I think this test may be beyond England now

the main thing on our side is the fact that we have 2 and a half days of cricket left, but it is all against us, then again if we want to win this series, we'll need some innings like the one we'll be set here.

Your keeper sucks.

He's dropped 9 catches in 16 matches, and has dropped 2 or 3 today. ANd in addition he's struggling to catch returns.

All out, 384.

That'd make England's target about 420.
methinks not.

Posted by Philby on Jul-23-2005 12:39:

looks like you boys need a bit of catching practise

Jones is seen as a better 'batsman' than chris read (who is just as good in most peoples opinions) and who is a natural at wicket keeping, but jones plays at a southern county & that often gets favoured (can't count the number of average players who got in by playing for a fancied county)

And with the stunning average of 33, he's sure a modern day Bradman!

What a catch by Brett Lee!!!!

Posted by Ian on Jul-23-2005 19:41:

since we had a rain delay, we should caption the following....

final one - "where has my form (and hair) gone"

Posted by matt.h on Jul-24-2005 07:05:

only the rain will save the english!

there are a lot of questionable players in the english side.

- who is this ian bell random; failed in both innings
- geraint jones; missing regulation catches aswell as the pressure catches
- michael vaughn; none of the form he displayed in the last ashes series...what has his average droppped to since taking on the captaincy? which he isn't very good at either, some of his decisions in the field leave a lot to be desired

why isn't paul collingwood in the test team?

Ian Bell is a great young talent, one for the future as well as now. To be fair his dismissals were unlucky, the 1st innings he got c aught out by one that kept a tiny bit low, and the 2nd he just got done by shane warne, he's not the first obviously and he won't be the last, doesn't make him a bad player, and hopefully he'll score some big runs against you & shut you up

G. Jones - well he's considered o be a better batting option than chris read who is the best english wicketkeeper, it's a big debate, but we'll see.

Vaughan has struggled but more so in the one day team, test wise he'll come good, but I want him to open the batting again.

Flintoff we need to come good, he's been out of form but mainly through a lack of batting since the south africa tour, warming up against bangladesh, we never lost enough wickets to give him a knock and it's showing.

Collingwood is seen as a better one day player, there's never been room in the test side for him sadly, like michael bevan for you guys he's seen as the specialist in that form of the game.

Once again, Jones isn't a batting phenomenom like Gilchrest. Plainly, yesterday he sucked behind the wickets. Doesn't matter how much better batsman he is, you gotta have your best gloveman in the team.

tell david graveney (selector guy) that, he's blatantly biased to certain counties, Read plays for Notts who aren't as 'fancied' so find it harder for their players to get into the team from that. While not averaging anything amazing (30) he still is the best gloveman and I think equally as good a batsman.

yeh i had a quick squiz at chris read's profile, batting avg around 15...that is poor! he's going to be passed by glenn mcgrath soon

michael bevan was tried in the test team but couldn't handle the short ball very well, was dropped and never broke back into the test team. collingwood on the other hand seems to be a very competent player and not a half-bad bowling option aswell.

it remains to be seen if he'd get a chance, he's seen to be behind such players as robert key (again he's shit but he plays for the same county team as g. jones - go figure)

What hasn't been seen about read's batting is that he played at age 20 when we had a tail that came upto about number 3, with such gods as andrew caddick, alan mullally and angus fraser, nobody can carry that tail, and he's matured as a player since, and I think he'd do a good job given a chance, hell on his one day debut he pulled shaun pollock for 18 in 3 balls

One of the Aussie players defected?

Posted by matt.h on Jul-24-2005 16:14:

heya ian, would be interested in your opinion on both mark butcher & robert keys. can you see either of them being selected?

also ashley giles, do you guys have any alternatives? cant see giles taking many wickets against the aussies who are all fairly capable players of spin.

Giles is our best off break bowler, we have a good leg spinner in graeme swann but he doesn't play county cricket all the time due to captains being reluctant to use him.

Butcher - he's unfit, aging, and not worth a place, Key has too much of a defensive problem to be considered imo

don't be so fucking silly
if Mark Butchers wrist was ok, he'd be in, and bell would be getting out cheaply for his county side.
this is cold hard fact

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH an Australian side suposedly 'struggling for form' outplayed, outclassed an English side which was supposed to reclaim the Ashes. 5-0 Ian you say? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA win one game champion before you come on these boards and make such ridiculous claims.
