Idiot. The genre of the music is defined by its musical characteristics, not how fast it plays. If you pitched a gabba record at -16, it's still a gabba record.

lets see. you cant really define a whole genre with one track, as there are a bunch of subgenres, but if you overlook that, and allow some subgenres to count as independent ones, here's my list:

prolly missed a couple genres. skipped breaks because any track with a breakbeat pattern is breaks, so it doesn't really count IMO.

Cheap sarcasm aside, I'm afraid your logic isn't nearly as universal as you may wish it to be. While tempo does play a part in a song's aesthetic (and therefore playing a role in typological classification), it is only one part of the equation. Albeit Trance usually operates within the 120 - 160 BPM range, there are exceptions. Moreover, some of the earliest - and purest, in terms of concept - Trance was actually pretty damn slow. For example, give the 1988 Pure Trance Classic mix of The KLF's hit single What Time Is Love a listen. It's quite dubbed-out. Incidentally, the aforementioned song was arguably the track to start things off, as far as Trance is concerned.

Eh, I dunno how you think SOAD's new track is Progressive Metal; they're a Mallcore (Agro-Alternative; not Metal) band through and through. Progressive Metal would be something more akin to Dream Theater's sound.

And after listening to a sample of that Sum 41 track, I'm sure that though it does sound mildly Metal-esque, there are better bands to mention than Avrilcore ones.
