So based off this statement, it looks like you're a fan of censorship. Is Hitler a hero of yours? Mussolini? Maybe George W. Bush?

Please show me how what I posted is not part of a conversation. I'll even help you by providing a dictionary definition of what a conversation is:

conversation
n.

1. The spoken exchange of thoughts, opinions, and feelings; talk.
1a. An instance of this: held a long conversation on the subject.
2. An informal discussion of a matter by representatives of governments, institutions, or organizations.

Whoops, looks like you were wrong. Or is your head too far up your ass for you to admit it?

I always know who the dumbasses are when they resort to relying solely on ad hominem attacks.

I could easily say this in a pissed off mood but im not, ill be nice about it. i wrote in a paragraph above that not hip hop is like that or rap, but alot of it is this way. Now you still wanna argue or you wanna stop about this and we ill get back to the mamma talk?

As Pattink said, I posted it to show the double standards we have going on here. Whenever I see the threads about someones friends laughing at them for listening to EDM or someone talking about how people stereotype them, I laugh because I know that the some of the same people who post in support of that person are quick to diss other genres of music that they know little about (most often rap).

Fair enough, we all got opinions about certain genres of music (in this case rap). I think its that way, you apperiantly disagree with me. But let me ask you a question, what music do you enjoy listening to most? and what music do you think has the worst infulence on people?

Posted by meneedit on Aug-01-2005 05:15:

my mum said something extremely similar once...

Don't worry man, most people over the age of 30 dont like to step outside the square they live in. It's rather sad

He shouldn't bring them in until the breakdown, though.

And just to add a little fuel to the proverbial fire, Hip-Hop is EDM, folks, as it is not only made for dancing (in most cases) but is created by an electronic means. Henceforth, trying to belittle Hip-Hip in the face of EDM is moronic due to the fact that the former is a subdivision of the latter.

Posted by Pattink on Aug-01-2005 05:16:

but yeah...I think my mom and dad are so carefree about what me and my brother listen to because when they were our age they didnt exactly listen to the music their parents would want them to be listening to. Both parents listened to alot of rock from back in the day, beatles, steve miller band, classic rock stuff now, when their parents would want their children to listen to the music they were into, like in my moms case jazz and in my dad's case church music/ barry manilow (SP?) and stuff.

oh, and by other note: most parent's hobbies most of the time untill their kids start to get more independant is their kids, it is just a fact.

True!

And sure its made for dancing. I can do some serious ass-shakin' to a good hip hop tune.

Posted by Aiwendil on Aug-01-2005 05:29:

Reggaeton is the best ass shakin music. Really it is. Say it is.

Rock music. But if you mean between trance/house/techno and rap/hip-hop I can say I listen to more trance/etc, but that's not to say I like it any more or less.

I don't think music has a negative influence on anyone. That may be a cop-out answer but it's really how I feel.

hardcore rock/death metal often includes lyrics about selfmutilation, killing...etc. Basically it's "angry"

rap and hiphop lyrics are fraught with derogitory comments about bitches, raids, drugs, gun, knives, sluts .... whatever

trance lyrics are mostly loveydovey

i respect your opinion about no music having negative influences on anyone, but compare the lyrics? listening to something often does affect how the mind views the world.

IMO at least..

I'm going to vent in this post..so if you dont want to hear venting..move to the next thread.

I'm riding in my car today with my mom and she suddenly starts rediculing the "music that I listen to". "It's redundant and your sister's friend said that only people high on drugs listen to that music."

What an insult.

"Why are you always listening to that music 24/7. You are obsessed. I think your sister's friend is right. I hope you come out of this phase soon."

Phase!?!?!

She continued to bash me personally for enjoying the music that I love.

"I listen to this music 24/7 because I love it. This is my hobby. This is what I'm obsessed about, this is why I have turntables in my room to play on. It is okay to be obsessed with something and have a hobby, mom. Why do you think football players turn pro? Because they are OBSESSED, it is their HOBBY, their PASSION."

I believe that my mother does not have a hobby in her life. I couldn't think of one. I guess that it is because of this, she simply can't comprehend enjoying something so immensely in life.

This whole experience made me realize how so many other people on this planet laugh at EDM in general and its people. Anybody else with similar experiences? Sorry about the rant.

how old are you?
