SAMPLING, ever heard of it? and people has been sampling the beats of bambaata (well technicly arthur baker) ever since well, they produced the original track. and even baker sampled kraftwerk tracks for one of the most sampled/ripped off tracks EVER being planet rock.

and so what if missy elliott sampled cybotron - clear, the result was good and she sampled the track well.

i am sick and tired of this debate
i know about sampling, I actually like that missy eliott track
my beef is that all these kids run around thinking she is the original artist
same with that J Lo track... most people will never hear about the original artist being credited and it pisses me off

well, ignorance is bliss really, let them think that. and yes the original artists are well credited on both tracks. find the vinyl/cd single/albums for both look in the credits and you will find that they are credited.

Posted by Azz3D on Jun-07-2006 23:04:

yes, i'm aware of the credits being given on the actual cd/vinyl
i'm just mad that most people I talk to act like those artists came up with the freaking thing

I am perfectly happy to stand corrected; your post is quite useless without one.

What genre would they fall under, if made today or over the past couple of years? As I said, I love the style and will seek it out once I know what it's called... Punk and Rock Your Body Rock, same thing, what is that genre?

Posted by LittleGoku on Jun-07-2006 23:59:

...this thread is getting out of hand.

"OMG CORSTEN pLAYIng SOME elctrox, its electro trance!!! i Was blind all this time, so this means kernkraft 400 is electro trance too!!

wow thanks ferry corsten for helping me realize this genre i hadn't seen all this time."

Fact is, Kernkraft 400 Zombie Nation, was played by some dj's like Seb Fontaine, Pete Tong around 2000 or so.

Queen Vee, my question to you is, does this mean Pete Tong is an electro trance dj ? Because alot of what he plays has always been house. Pitch up Francois Dubois-Blood (Andy Cato Pack Up And Dance Mix) about an extra 7 bpm and you have electro trance?

WTF??!! I am asking what genre Kernkraft 400, Time To Burn and Rock Your Body Rock are because I CLEARLY DON'T KNOW!!!

So please stop pulling my posts apart in your attempt to make me look like a moron, and just answer my query if you are so wise.

What genre are they, if they are not 'electro trance'?

'shit trance'

Christ. I think we're going round in circles here.

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Jun-08-2006 01:54:

i think you have to know what electro is before you can make a point..

ferry corsten - rock your body rock has no electro elements

no cowbells, no synth hits, no stutter effects with the percussion too much full synths in that.. not enough SPACE

I was not making a point, I was asking a question, to which the answer appears to be shit trance (thank-you DJ Mikey Mike, that was most informative; may you continue to impart such valuable wisdom on the genre of trance to many others)

To me, Rock Your Body Rock, Loneliness, Time To Burn, Kenrkraft 400, Punk etc all have a very similar sound, and that sound is vastly different to the Air For Life, Shivers, Adagio For Strings or other ASOT sound that dominates trance today.

If its all just straight up trance, fine, however I remain surprised that with all the subgenres and sub-subgenres (prog trance, uplifting trance, tech trance et al) out there a distinction is apparently not available for said style seeing as ELECTRO TRANCE is a forbidden term.

House music.

That's where your confusion lies. Neither trance nor electro has a monopoly on buzzing lead synths.

Ferry Corsten is producing house. Best joke Ive heard in months.

Oh yeah, youve explained us again! Youre pathetic. Yeaaaaa, its shit trance, of cooourse, why should we even talk about it! Meh.

How do you all think the new genre/subgenre springs up? Do you think some producer goes and makes a new and fresh sounding track and then says: "Now Ive discovered a new genre of music and now I officially consider it as house" ? Of course not! The music is talked in the debates, the records are reviewed, people talk about the shit like we do here. Now someone says "electro trance" and all the elitist who are bound to the early 90s just cant stand the music is evolving without having regard for them, so they would defend their archaic opinion to death. It makes me sick.

Perhaps it is not a joke though...

And perhaps that is why trance is crap now. People have decided 'house' tracks should not be played in 'trance' sets, when no one used to blink if tracks with differing structures were actually thrown in together. Most DJ's don't have the balls to do it, hence coma inducing trance sets COS IT'S ALL THE SAME!!

And people like me sit back not realising what I actually liked about trance pre today was the fact a little bit of house music used to be thrown in for good measure...

Just a thought.

house just means hybrid genres or sampling haha

well you can call benny benassi trance, i would, the formula is there, and storm time to burn i would call that trance as well, (composition wise) instruments not really

well said.

Just because it has a buzzing synth doesnt make it electro

If every trance track had the same anthem sounding synth then Trance will be very boring

Oh wait

Yes, I know that, one of the first records in which he was involved was house.

I was referring to how you answered the question "what genre is f.e. Rock Your Body Rock?". And youve said house so Im curious how have you made out, cause I dont see any connection between house and Rock Your Body Rock.

"electro" house (even though I hate that term)....in the same realm as Alter Ego - Rocker or Benni Benassi - Satisfaction.

just because the term "electro house" is used quite a while and seems it has established already on the scene does not mean there is no room for another type/subgenre of music.

i still believe that Ferrys new work is just trance influenced by electro and i see no reason why i should consider it as house (even electro house). And theres no reason we people should not call it "electro trance" or "electrance".

Time will show.

I know that. Read the topic carefully and look what we were talking about (Rock Your Body Rock).

You can believe whatever you want, it still makes you wrong.

Because it's not trance with electro.

The day someone makes trance with electro is the day we will call it electrotrance. Until that day comes, what Ferry Corsten is doing is neither.
