To be honest....I was there for Marco V who fucking destroyed the place......Paul came on and I left the room about 40 mins later for a bit thinking he would pick it back up by the time I returned....nope.....I came back and my ears started bleeding. I don't hate PVD Rory....I totally respect the guy which is why I hold him to such a high standard. Maybe your in love with the guy and your overlooking his recent incapable DJ skills. You can't deny the fact that he has fallen off recently. Some of the biggest PVD whores themselves from Berlin will even tell you that.

I dont think his skills fell off, I think its his set programming ability that has become... lazy.

And track selection is not a skill? Track selection and set programming go hand in hand....which gives you the skill to feel out the crowd.....if you become lazy and your skills start to show it....damn right people are going to bitch about. It's up to them to do something about it and not fall down the Oakenfold hill.

I dunno Brian - must be just personal taste... the two times I saw MarcoV this past year, I left early cause I was so bored with what he was playing... to my ears, Pvd is still as good now as he was when I started listening to him. I still dont see how you think his DJ skills are 'incapable' though. Both his mixing and track selection have been spot on for a long time and continue to be. I know his style isnt for everyone though - I just get sick of people who've stated that they no longer like him continue to go see him again and again...

everybody is entitled to have an opinion that's all, lets not get into the same PvD fight every single time

Youre not getting the point, its not that he doesnt have the ability to pull out a sick track selection and program some of the greatest sets ever, but he has become lazy. He hasnt lost any skill to feel out a crowd because hes just not trying anymore, so if anything its not that he lost anything, he just chooses not to use it - we all thought that Paul wouldnt follow this path of egoism, but apparently the stigma of being able to pack a house just because hes there has got the best of him.

On the exact opposite end of the spectrum, as of late, sits Tiesto, who has been programming some great sets, on the contrary to his past reputation of being lazy and doing half-assed livesets.

PVD just doesn't give 2 shits. His set last feb at roxy was crap. The programing was horrible. You shouldn't play a track 3 times...it was just all over the place. No flow, that lost it for me...he travels the world plays the same tracks for a few months in a different order, then he'll change. No wonder he doesn't care, he's probably bored out of his mind..he's raking 40 grand what does he care, to me some of his sets i've seen the programming has been a bit off, even older ones. He's better on skills than programing..

Blah, you don't know shit.

"better on skills than programing.."

haha...gimme a break...if you really know what you are talking about, explain yourself. But please, don't make it so I have to call you out on some bullshit again.

Sure PvD WAS in a slump, but he's picked his game back up a lot. I've seen him 4 times this year, and LIVE, its always been a blast. I have a great time at his parties and will go to 3 more before the year is over. The energy is still there, and cranked up all the way in places like NYC (but I guess there no other place really like New York). Those of you who go to his parties, instead of just listening to Paul's same boring ass sets of his over and over again, will agree with me.

NYC-CP was a great set with Ableton and Paul throwing new melodies on the keyboard. The Other Side at the end soundy shitty, but hey, it was different and kinda creative. From what I am seeing, he is putting in the effort and in a devolpment stage as an artist.

Gotta mention TPOD2 was shit. We can leave it at that.

"His set last feb at roxy was crap"

You mean Feb-2004 a week before Ultra?

Were you even fucking there?

I won't even mention how many great songs were played that night. (I was going to.) It was one of the most fun nights I've had ever. Paul even grabed a record from some chick in the front and threw that down.

Ahh!!!! I'm getting so psyched for NYC on the 11th!!! Especially for the topic of the thread (which is what we should eb discussing). Six hour is good enough time for Paul to throw down just a bit of everything. I have no doubt that he will impress. (He better shit...the efforts of getting to NYC from Cali for a Friday night party after Friday morning workday is enormous.)

^^^^^ Fabulous Left Coast comin to hang with us.....WOOT WOOT!!!!!!

Posted by umes23 on Oct-21-2005 03:38:

pvd's never played a disappointing set in new york city, and his typical 6 hours + ones really aren't matched by sets from any dj in any city in my opinion.

i agree with rory, if you've moved on and really think you can't stand pvd now in 2005, then move on and don't throw your trash in a thread discussing the length and details surrounding pvd@roxy! honestly, pvd plays the same amount of really good tracks, stale repeats, and good and bad fillers now in 2005 as he did in 2002 or almost any other year for that matter. it does not make sense to me to say that he's changed his style in anyway. perhaps you like only old things because that was a different you at a different time that loved pvd. and in terms of effort, he's been putting it in with a lot of tricks up his sleeve, countless 3 track mixing, live mashups and more in so many sets, how is this not putting an effort. yeah it seems like he repeats his music too much, but he always has and he's not doing that more now either. going by tracklistings or downloaded broadcasted sets online isn't going to get you anywhere. his live gigs always contain a large amount of uncited/unbroadcasted tracks. and i'll end with a repeat of my main opinion on this matter - i don't miss pvd in nyc sets and i haven't found one of them (especially extended 6 hr ones which are on a level of their own) disappointing in 5 years.

It doesn't really matter. JFK, LGA, EWR are all outside manhattan and about 30mins to get to from Roxy. I do see your concern though...I fly in Friday night at 11:30PM and will be driving straight from JFK to the club.

Dunno

I have a question, why have so many people come to listen for what they don't like and stopped listening for what they like? Every show is there for you to enjoy not for you to analyze so much you end up hating what you are listening to. Find the good parts enjoy your self and relax! I will guarantee you if you do this every time you see him you will swear it was his best! Accept what is placed before you. Its these people that look for the negative that just destroy the atmosphere for everyone else there to enjoy! If you want to do that stay home!

If you were so embarrassed that you felt the need to remove your shirt and turn it inside out... Chances are PVD would have thanked you so that no one knew that such an idiot if even represented a portion of his fan base!

PVD is going to throw down a 6+ hour set!!!!! Schweeeeeet I am sooo stoked!
