When I read ishkurs stuff, I often get the feeling that he craves a certion exclusionary rebelion that one gets from being a part of an underground scene. He seems frustrated that more people are interested in this music than before.

I dont think that is the right attitude, we should not be trying to exclude others, we should not be trying to recreate these old days where you had to be really lucky in order to have the right connections to the scene that you were interested in. Everything is always about flaming the kids who found out about the wide world of EDM over the iternet, whining that the newfound exposure has destroyed this superior underground movement. I think this is the wrong approach, it is better to let people in than it is to hide from them. For some reason I used to beleive that EDM was all about being kind to others and not excluding them, it seemed to preach that we should all be accepting of other people, I think that even includes "the masses". I am not going to let the newfound popularity displace the spirit that I beleive in, I am not going to turn back on all my ideals just because we are not some hip underground crew anymore, I think that is a bit hypocritical.

Commercial interests will always exploit whatever they can exploit succesfully, It is sad to see this happening to the music that we love, but there is still plenty of non commercial EDM left out there, and plently of hip underground people listening to it. Just because there is also a huge crowd enjoying the clearchannel knockoffs of it, does not not mean that the entire world of music has gone to hell.

You've got it the other way around, UnWorldy. You think I'm complaining about the cause. Nah. I'm complaining about the effect.

It's not exposure and popularity that has me wound up. I've never once cared what the greater world thinks of what I do with my free time (if it thinks at all), and I'm not going to start. Letting people in? I have no problem with that. Come one, come all. So long as you treat the culture with respect, tolerance, and leave it the way you found it. Sadly, this is rarely the case.

The more people involved with something, the slower and stupider it must become to appease all of them. Why must it appease them? Because if it doesn't, they'll make sure it does. This is the equivalent of you throwing a really bitchin' party, and halfway through the night the neighbourhood thugs discover it, invite their friends, and come trolloping in. That's not an issue, really, so long as they don't break anything. But as is usually the case, the newbs don't put as much interest, care or quality into the scene as everyone else has. They want the insta-gratification, and so they track mud all over the place, empty your fridge, blow up the stereo, wake up the neighbours and put holes in the wall. And in the morning they leave claiming "This party sucks. It wasn't like it was last night!"

Yeah. And who's fault is that, you fucking jerks!?

I've never once advocated exclusion of sub-cultural social tribes from the masses. But I have advocated, MANY MANY MANY times in MANY MANY MANY rants, essays and articles, that we should NOT DUMB OURSELVES DOWN FOR THEIR BENEFIT. We are what we are. We should not kow-tow, we should not dilute, we should not water down, we should not soften our image, our style, our morality, the very existence of our identity, for the sake of mass acceptance. To do so is an abomination and a betrayal of what we are here for.

huh.

I just realized something really tragic: Most of you don't have a god damn clue what I'm talking about.

I hope you people want to read my book. I really do. It's the most honest vindication of such passion that I can put to words.

hmm...it wouldn't be that you're pretty much trance's version of Matthew Collin would it? i mean all of what you're saying is cyclic within the scene and has happened decades ago with other kinds of EDM (at least) and has been written about already.

This is stupid. M.I.K.E. (Push) for once is not supposed to be in this list, the guy's a genius. Thats just one name in the list.

I wont even bother going on about the others.

Yes, I am partially fed up with some DJs in that list, like Tiesto going into some new weird crappy music direction away from his good old classic stuff, but come on - you dont list all the most popular DJs and say they suck - THATS STUPID!

I want to tell that guy to get a life!!!! I dont ever have time to make a list of my top 100 least favourite artists/tunes, and I wont do it cause it defeats the purpose of making music charts, in my opinion. I barely have enough time to make my top 100 favourite tunes! I bet that guy is so pissed off on the success of these DJs he doesnt even have his own TOP 10 favourite!!!

lol someone missed the point

the list is just copy/pasted from the TA top 100 DJs vote 2005, purely as satire

I don't browse TA forums as thoroughly and regularly as you are. In fact, I am going to check the 2005 TA TOP 250 DJs List now!!! (I voted some time ago). Hehe./

I hate a waste of time threads like this (satire). I barely have enough time to keep up with my Discogs submissions, which are more useful to me than posting on silly threads like this (no offense), thats why I dont post as much as I used to

I got a lot of things to do, lots of plans and projects.

Does anyone know what kind of style trance does Ishkur like, or what his favorites producers are, or his favorite DJs. Yeah this is funny, but at least he should take the time and show us what he likes rather that what he dislikes. Alot of people here focus on that.

if trance didn't "dumb" down in 98-99 TA would never have existed in the first place...im sure swamper feels the same way

Posted by NuDarkBeat on Oct-22-2005 01:09:

well the issues and controversy surrounding this will definately boost up his site ratings

If he's trying to be funny, it's not working.

Posted by A.J. on Oct-22-2005 02:06:

Thumbs up

I think this is hilarious.

The mere fact that people are reacting to Ishkur's list means that it has achieved its purpose. If people didn't take everything so seriously, maybe they could appreciate the irony and humour that is behind it.

Lighten up people!

This reminds me of a situation the other night. I was out with my sister and some friends. Someone told a hilarious joke and everyone was laughing their ass off, but then one of my sister's friends was like "THAT'S
DISGUSTING! HOW COULD YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT!" Maybe if she wasn't such an uptight bitch and she didn't take everything so seriously, she could appreciate the joke for what it was: a joke.

Posted by Magnetonium on Oct-22-2005 03:20:

Yes, that does make sense ... if ONLY this was a joke. And its not. At least thats not why people are laughing on this thread.

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Oct-22-2005 03:50:

Is it still a joke if it ain't funny?

Posted by jonSun on Oct-22-2005 03:52:

How many times do we have to explain this? We've used to like trance, but sticked on the site because there's some cool people here (teh community is decent) and generally all electronic music is discussed anyway (granted there are some bias towards certain subgenres). Actually I still like some trance, just not epic nor most of the stuff that has been released over the last couple years. And certainly it isn't Armin, Tiesto, PvD, or 90% of this list that makes the scene for me.

Posted by george_hales on Oct-22-2005 12:19:

ok ok, i worded what i ment wrong... i don't speak for everyone, it was a personal opinion. From my view of the scene, i feel that alot of artists wouldn't have been as big if it weren't for the promotional power of the djs rated as "top". I know myself that i'd have never listened to half the artists i know of today if i hadn't caught that once or twice that i heard them on a compilation or at a club being played by the names in that list. Hopefully people see where im comming from, but i'll make it clear that this probably isn't the case for alot of you.

Posted by PlasticSoul on Oct-22-2005 14:58:

why every thread where is ishkur's name, there are tons of pages'?

I think I'll do a thread with my top 2005 djs , well... its better copy and paste TAs one and replace something...
so it will be big with tons of replies and I'll be teH pop"!!
