does this mean that you are cranky anytime you are awake?

you need 24 hours of sleep a day?

Posted by psychosomatica on Oct-29-2005 02:15:

I went ~96 hours... with about.. 8 hours of sleep interspersed throughout that time. But the longest I've gone without shutting my eyes... probably 45 hours

Posted by StereoPrincess on Oct-29-2005 02:16:

to add to this thread, i really couldn't tell you how long is the longest i stayed up.

that's probably because i don't remember what happened.

that boa new years was pretty long and i did stay to the very end because i doooo love c&c.

what about those unfortunate few with chronic insomnia?

I've never had much problem sleeping. I either walk a lot during the day to various places, or I'm so tired mentally from school. I think the longest I've gone is about 30-36 hours a few times...but then I end having a marathon 18 hour sleep session. It's horrible on your heart, brain and immune system.

4 days..in LA

and god it was fun

i hope the canadian public doesn't hold this against me in 30 years

but then again..theres is much worse shit about me out there...maybe someone should write an expose

The world record is like 11 days. And yes... I could feel myself breathing and my heart beating near the end of it.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-29-2005 02:35:

11 days? damn...that's something few people could do. I feel like shit if I don't get 8-9 hours of daily sleep so ugh..

Posted by samhouse on Oct-29-2005 02:42:

4 days...done three times this year.....

its a killer...first i was like woah...i just stayed up for 4 days.....then it happened again...and AGAIN....

by the third time i figured it was time for a change in my life...
i dont think ill ever do it again (unless i go to ibiza, wmc or other such music crazy atmospheres ever....just cuz i haven't yet )

several times I've pushed it to the absolute limit:

1st time :
year 1 of engineering at mac. Up for 3 straight days, drank a crapload of coffee, and it caught up to me quickly and my work suffered. The more I stayed up, the less productive I became, and then was forced to stay up later, etc....judgement really does go hand in hand with sleep, and lack of sleep is a bad idea. I was running on so much adrenaline by the end I couldn't get to sleep, and a girl on my floor gave me some melatonin sleeping pills, doubling the doseage figuring I was 'a big guy'. 45 mins alter, I could barely lift my math textbook back to my room to get to bed. Went to sleep in the coma position, didn't wake up from that night till morning the second day afterward. My roomate had thought I'd literally died, but my body just completely shut down and I couldn't wake myself. Worst thing was having to go to the bathroom immediately upon regaining consiousness.

2nd time:
year 2 engineering physics, during the midterm time around thanksgiving. I had 5 midterms, 6 assignments, and 3 labs in 10 days totalling very significant portions of my marks on a number of courses. Had 3 hours sleep in 5 days, with only 3 full meals to go along with it. The extreme lack of sleep and food caused me to fail a couple of the midterms, without question. By the end, I was hallucinating, flat out hallucinating to the point where I saw 'underpants gnomes' from a specific south park episode. I even started singing the corresponding song that went along with that episode, and was in uncontrollable fits of laughter because I was literally losing my mind. The entire week following, my housemates stole some of my underwear and hung it from the ceiling of the living room to emphasize how crazy I became. No sleeping pills were necessary after that bout with insomnia though.

you're lucky! although i'm by no means a chronic insomniac, i cannot turn off my brain at night, therefore i rarely get enough sleep until the weekend. then i can't sleep on sunday night cos i overslept on the weekend. and i walk TONS. it's just not fair...

Posted by djbruuen on Oct-29-2005 03:14:

you guys are freakin nut bags man, what the fuck? GET SOME FUCKIN SLEEP MAN!!!

longest for me is nothing compared to that crazy shit...just woke up for a 7am shift...crazy party that nite, allniter, surprisingly wasn't tired and stayed up the whole day and basically dropped dead around 11-12am the following night...so i'd say thats a little over 40. i have no idea how the FUCK you guys can do two full nites in a row though, don't worry, the clubs aint goin anywhere...and if u guys do this for school, then maybe you shouldn't leave every essay of your whole term in every course to get done in one week ...the only reason i'm in at 11pm on a friday right now, is i'm procrastinating on an essay...ahwell, back to work.

Miss Mixalicious, I promise you, I will never run for any sort of office, and yes, my right hand is on a copy of Lights Out 3

Recap of those 93 hours:

I woke up that Wednesday morning (31Dec03) at 6am and went to work, sick as hell. I willed my sickness out of me, and drove up to my boy's place in Maple (from just outside of Buffalo) and got there at about 11:15pm. We all had dinner and got to the Zone for 3am, and stayed till 7pm. I'm SO not proud of that, and there exists this treacherous girl that STILL MSNs me as some sort of cursed reminder of that debachle.

After leaving the Zone, we went to Bobby's house, cleaned up a bit, ate some chili and made it to Film by midnight. Everyone there kind of had this wtf-are-you-doing-alive look on their face towards each other. Extremely surreal, it was.

I went to an afterparty at around 5 with a couple girls, hung out till 10am, got back to Bobby's, and made Jennypie get her shit together so we could get my buddy Steve and have breakfast. BTW, the Bad Boy Bill DVD at thsi point is STILL playing over and over and over, as it did all fucking weekend. Dancin in the Dark (4Ttune 500) and Spread Love (Fight Club feat. Laurent Konrad), and Da Hype (Junior Jack) were the weekend's theme songs.

Sunset Grill, the classic breakfast joint, was the setting of our idiotic laughter session, wondering just how long this could continue, though everyone else had deided sleep was in order at some point in time. As for me? Noooo sirreeeee...I cherish my moments in Toronto, and it's New Years, my class starts on Monday, and I'm going to rock it the fuck out!

We went back to Bobby's and chilled for a bit, ate something for dinner, and had a few drinks before I went upstairs to try and get some rest. To no avail though, because Jennypie and Jackie thought it would be cool to draw pictures on me. I have no good reason why that prevented me from sleeping at this juncture, but it was all of a sudden time to get in the shower and make it back up to Film.

Since I seem to take my sweet old time getting ready, I cabbed it to Dundas and joined the crew. After a long night, I watched a movie with a friend at Bobby's, and made a run for the border in the early afternoon. I came home and hung out with my buddy Gio, and we chilled in the hot tub with some Red Bulls, recanting the recents days' events.

I have no idea what took me until 3am to get to sleep, but maybe I was overoveroverovertired. Yeah, that's it.

After remembering that holiday's theme songs, I queued up a playlist of rememberance for the wonderful, wonderful period of house music that I'm rockin out to now. Enjoy:

Actually I just remembered that there was a time in my 3rd year where I was awake for 5 days straight (4 nights). That wasn't intentional though, just had really wicked insomnia, there was "rest" involved. It was strange, after the 3rd night I didn't even really feel it anymore, and I was actually still able to function. I could never stay up that long if I actually wanted to, though...

Posted by St_Andrew on Oct-29-2005 12:00:

Wow!!!

Ehm, I think my record is something like 40 hours, I donno if I could have made it longer tho, and i don't really know if I would have wanted to either cause i remember feeling pretty shite

Posted by Blue. on Oct-29-2005 12:07:

Well not without sleeping per se but I've worked all week and probably gotten all of 4 hours of sleep each night this week.

Posted by SnYpA on Oct-29-2005 15:51:

longest ive been up was prolly about 48 hours. I actually wouldn't have minded staying up longer...its just that I was alone and had nothing to do..

I'm sure if I was with a group of ppl and we had more .. *ahem* substances to accompany us..I definitely would have been awake for so much longer.

I LOVE when we make a point to say "not a good idea"

88 hrs in Ibiza sometime in late September 2003
NOT a good idea!
Not something I'm proud of....

Never been over 40-ish since

Me too. I can't believe what I'm reading in this thread! I could maybe push it to 40 but that's it. I've been at a club before (Viva actually with Aaron Joseph) and I started to fall asleep in the DJ booth! And by that time, I was only up for like 22 hours.

Sleep is good.

72 hours - one time only affair. NEVER again.....I was speaking in tones of Krisinese and I was the only fluent linguist.

Other than that, I sleep after 48 no matter what - my brain is precious, oh so precious.

Kris
