They can be similar and/or different depending upon the music itself. From very ancient times there has been shared influence in food, music, dance and architecture between India and middle-east countries.

The Indian music has absorbed strands of influence reigned in from both the Mediterranean and the Middle-East while keeping it's unpteen variations. And the same applies for the other way round. It can be intriguing at times.

For example, play the song Perasma - Swing 2 Harmony and most Indians will swear it's an Indian song.

of course both styles have influenced each other. but i would still say that its a distinctive difference between both. at least for a trained ear. But the influence is as you say natural since the Arab world had close ties with the Indian sub continent for hundreds of years via the trade routes. This way both goods, art, music, ideologies was exchanged.
What I critisized was the way people often group India and Middle East together as one part of the world when there is a huge land area seperating them including the mountainous Hindukush massive.
It's like saying that North America and South America is one place with the same culture and history.
