See, all this engergy and thought and emotions go into this thread. Which brings me to my point. A week from now it would be impossible to find - you know, for preservational purposes.

See, a search feature would have come in handy!

Now you see the benefit of my post - which is all I really wanted.

UWM, et al - all joking aside - I'm just goofin' around. No offense meant by any of asenine remarks.

It's the definition of life as a crackhead... the difference is, it's fun for us

my life is a silent moment, surrounded by swirling bits of blotto paper, little plastic baggies and miniature pink pineapples

Search looks for content within posts or titles - your username is not part of the 'content' of your post - so no result would be found.

It all revolves around full-text searching and 'weighing' certain terms based on their frequency - searching for last posts by a user is cumbersome since while there are indicies for this sort of thing it still takes a long time on close to 5 million posts. This is the reason why the vast majority of large vB forums have search turned off for non-registered users - something I may be forced to do.

Some technical reading:

http://www.databasejournal.com/feat...cle.php/3512461

"That is, why is it bad if a search term is common? Well, think of the farmer who marked the location of the leprechaun's gold by tying a sock around a nearby bush. When he returned with his shovel to dig up the gold, the leprechaun had tied a sock around every bush in the field! Moral: if 'sock' appears everywhere, it is a useless marker."

Two questions:

1. Shall we start a thread "Chip in for search appliance for TA"
2. Did leperchaun use the sock inappropriately beforehand?

s.p.s. <-- to hell with it!

Thanks for the info Swamper!

btw, 5Mill posts??? whoa...

But he only ate terms less than 4 characters... It's like an appetizer... that's why we can't search them...

It's been asked before, no one really knows, after a while, you realize, he's just another one of us that's just "here."
