hahahhhoh lord. I've never heard anything like that. I mean. I can't stand it. But it just kinda lures you in because your in awe or scared. or digusted. but more shocked. It's a metal clanking, nose bleeding nightmare. Where is the bass? and .. hearing that live..? It's paranoia!

Well, I guess it's safe to say that Alex has influenced a ton of today's producers, since they were all listening to the old Metalheadz records at home at the time Reece was active. And while their take on drum n bass might be completely different (neurofunk, jump up, techstep), you can still hear his influences on the records coming out today.

Some examples: that "buzzing" bass sound (Concord Dawn - Morning Light has it for instance) that so many drum n bass records use nowadays is very often referred to as the Reece-bass, even though he got the idea for it from an old house record by The Reese Project, which consists of Kevin Saunderson among others. There is also the Reece-break, which is used equally often (Check Dom & Roland - Imagination and Die - Clear Skyz), and then there's the sampling of real instruments etc. etc.

Reece's influence is still largely present, even if jazzstep is gone by now.

Perhaps this Alex Reece guy fused Jazz and DnB, but he didn't introduce African Syncopation into either. I still say it's because of Jazz and DnB's common stylistic origins. Something like this...

DnB/Jungle >> Reggae >> African Carribbean Music/Jazz >> African Cultural Music

Sure Jungle was influenced by other music like Hardcore Breakbeat, but that's not where the syncopation comes from.

Of course, Reece didn't think of the syncopation on his own, so I'm sure those genres influenced him plenty. However, he was one of the first, if not the first, to actually put jazz concepts such as its rhythms and its instruments into practice as far as drum n bass is concerned. And since his records had such an impact, I'd say that it is obvious why the syncopation of today's drum n bass reminds people of jazz, namely because Alex introduced it to drum n bass early on.

That being said, it's probably not wise to understimate the ragga massive either, who probably told Alex to go fuck himself when he started having beef with Goldie (Alex is white).
