Doing ball tricks doesn't make you the greatest player ever. Besides, during Pele's era and Maradona's era the television coverage wasn't as extensive as it is now with dozens of cameras at every game. It's a bit unfair to say that Ronaldinho is the greatest since there are lots of clips of him doing crazy stuff but not as many for Pele and Maradona.

I'm sure he will do that but just in his defence, dont think pele had to play as many matches in a season like Ronaldinho before he went to the WC.

^I bet he did!

I hate negative posts, but I'm sorry but you're stupid. Very stupid. I think a five year-old knows more about soccer than you. Go home, think about what you just said and ask for redemption when you come back. Stupid.

Just to let some of you ignorant, naive bandwaggers know, a great footballer is not defined by the number of nutmegs he makes, by the eyecandy of his goals, by his number of silverware nor by the number of uber compilation videos of him you download while you're looking at you're favourite pr0n. A great footballer is defined, by his very presence on the field, by way he motivates his team, by the way he leads his team to glory - whether this be in the World Cup or the Uefa Cup. Now you tell me how much of a leader Ronaldinho is. As far as I've seen, he's a ball-hogging-useful-player-who's-overrated-by-his-stupid-eyecandy. He's a great player don't get me wrong. But I think the image he, Barcelona, Nike and Brazil have created around him has killed his game and ego and killed any potential of him truly being remembered in the books of football. Oh, and the fact that he's Brazilian gave him an immediate pushstart, just because people blindly love Brazilians for... being Brazilian.

Let's be honest kids, if you're looking for eyecandy football, UEFA and FIFA are not the organizations to be watching. You should move to some elite corner of Rio de Janiero or Amsterdam and chill the homeless ghetto kids who play a game based around skills and nutmegs. I think Nike even moved into that territory and made a DVD about them.

he's all that at bara so no point

Ronaldinho is a great leader from what I've heard in interviews with other Barcelona-players. For an example, when Lionel Messi was interviewed yesterday on Swedish TV he said that Ronaldinho had learned him alot of moves and some important stuff. He also said that he was a major influence on him and his play.

I guess that's one part of being a great leader.

ive said it before, Jorge "el magico" Gonzales owns the hell out of pele and maradona when it came to technique. Not to mention Ronaldinho.
Its too bad theres only 4 videos floating around on the internet...he did amazing things with the ball..

I've got a cabinet full of soccer trophies so don't tell me I know nothing about soccer

You can't decide it now, because he hasn't finished his career yet and there's still lot to do for him. By far his not the best player ever, but for sure he can be...

Posted by zoric on Dec-23-2005 21:40:

Yes, and one big step in his career is too play well in the upcoming World Cup. Maybe even win it, and then he's only taken some steps. He's already shown what he can do, Being a magnificant player.

Ronny is the best in the world right now, but Maradona is still the greatest ever.

Maradona? I bet you're one of those guys trying to get him to play at least five minutes in the next world cup. Pele is better.

You think Pele was better? Ok, good. It's all a matter of opinion, anyway. Stop being a moron about it.

What are you, 13?

Posted by sensorium on Dec-29-2005 07:20:

I was not being a moron. And not only was Pele better but he was much more humble.

And for the record, I'm not 13. If you were offended by my comments, I offer my apologies. Take things lightly in this particular subforum. I'm pretty sure the inventor of the hand of god is a person that many, and not lunatics, consider the greatest of all time.

Pele is easily the Best...Look at his history. The things that he has achieved and what age was he when he achieved them. The number of goals that he has scored says it all

i hope you're not implying that only forwards can be considered great because they score goals.

that's like saying that michael jordan is easily the greatest. -look at all the points he scored, and magic johnson ain't shit because he didn't score as much. they didn't even play the same posiition...

if you asked the everybody who was the greatest futbol player of all time. half will say pele was, the other half will say maradonna was... if pele was easily the greatest, EVERYONE or atleast a VAST MAJORITY would say pele was the greatest, and when asked about maradonna, people would say mara-who?

anyways... to me their greatness lies in the fact that if you took those two player off their respective clubs, then argentina's/boca/napoli, etc... and brazil's/santos history would be very different. if they weren't around, their teams would have never acheived the same hieghts, and levels of legendary greatness.

Posted by sr126 on Dec-31-2005 05:23:

i think it's a little too early to say that ronny is the greatest. he's great, no doubt... but he still has a lot of things to do before people can start mentioning him along w/legends like pele.

after he retires, then people can talk... until then, his to do list is not done yet.

Are you joking? Players were doing it before ronaldinho was born...
Anyone who thinks only tricks and flair decide how good a footballer is really have no idea what they are talking about. People can practice tricks till they nail them, its like learning to ride a bike, you get the hang of it and it becomes second nature. Freestylers and even kids messing around in the street can do all sorts of shit with a ball, but most of them arent much good at actually playing football.
