I love these epic trance bashing threads. Unless its acid or a bit psy you all jump on it like no ones buisness! You all seem to be trying so hard to disown happy uplifting music and to dismiss it you sound like pantomine dames at times!

I can gurarantee a lot of these tracks you deem "cheesy" you were all bopping to 5 years ago. To call Gouryella - Ligaya a try hard track you are so far off mark its chronic. Its a bonafide classic PERIOD. Gatecrasher trance at its very best wheather you like it or not.

Dont worry sum of the tracks you have mentioned ie Serenity isnt a try hard its just utter baws. Thats the difference. There are tunes that are shit and tunes that simply are not. Just because they dont fit into your vision of what trance should be doesnt mean it isnt good to millions of clubbers throughout the world.

Rant Over!

Come on, we all know he likes polka

At that point, all trance becomes self-indulgent, and it loses all interest and purpose.

WTF are you talking about???

anyway, I can't really decide on one track. Usually if a track sounds like the description your asking for, I just discard it from my memory and pray I don't have to hear it again.

I focus on the good tracks out there and don't dwell on the shit ones. It's easier to turn a deaf ear, than to an ignorant remark.

Nah, come on.
Ligaya IS try-hard.

I think it's a good track and I'm actually a big fan of Ferry Corsten, but he had a clear agenda with this track. "Shit, a new Gouryella track, let's think of something with 9999 chords, played by an epic supersaw lead, just so I can call it a Gouryella track."

You're pretty right. I felt the same way when I heard it. I'm a big fan of Ferry too, it was just... well... try-hard.

I love epic trance, but Ligaya is just about as up its own arse as a track can be, bassline is poo, big attempt at a moody breakdown with big strings, trying to sound all melanchony then having a standard plicky appregio come in and build up and break with a rather uninspiring lack of energy.

I agree with the three posts above this one.

Ligaya could easily be mistaken for a parody of epic trance. It's as if Ferry was thinking "so how can I make fun of Out Of The Blue?"

Jurgen Vries - The Theme. People went nutty for it when it came out a few summers back and I still don't know why, wasn't that good!

people listing the 1998-2001 tracks should remember that at the time, that was where the genre was going. Anything since, eg. solid globe - sahara or serenity/shivers which are trying to recreate the past glories, when the styles have moved on

see, that I can understand. I guess I'm becoming an nostalgic old man. Damnit, I always made fun of my dad for like old songs... I'm going to be 40 in 20 years, and the majority of the music I will be listening to will be electronic music from 1996-2002.

AGH!
