Arrow

London has always been like this. Don't think what they're doing now is anything new. For years that club has been about "classiness". I remember on regular weekends, there would be no lines - it was just a mob of people in front trying to get people they knew inside to bring them in.

It seems that they're targeting the snobbier EDM fans (think lines instead of pills) to join their regular clientele. This isn't goanna change. My advice for anyone thinking of going, try and obey the rules they set, or prepare not to get in. I know it sucks, but that's the deal at the moment.

However, for those that got bottle service and has to wait/pay to get in, that is absolutely ridiculous. Last time I was there it was a 2 bottle minimum for a booth, and if you're goanna spend that much money, bypass and no cover for your ENTIRE party should be mandatory. That's the industry standard, highclass club or not.

3 bottle minimum.....cheapest being $175 .....am I the only one that thought that "bottles" would be 40oz not 26oz???? it was the first time we ever went with the vip booth idea....????

"classiness" also involves treating patrons with respect, as far as i'm concerned.

Really glad I went this week. I wanted to scope out what the regular crowd is shaping up like and how the space is on something other than a launch/DD night.

Brad's opening set was really good and even more impressive since he was under the weather. Sure didn't reflect in his set though!

Good call on closing the upstairs, there really weren't enough people to justify having both levels open.

Really liked Cevin Fisher's set. Warm housey grooves, vocally and infectious. Dancefloor was solidly moving to it.

Scumfrog was good (minus the lookatme! opening track) but yep, I had to call it quits by 4. Cause the heavy metal remixes and I just aren't friends.

T.

This is the norm for bottle service everywhere in Toronto. Some places charge even more.

Posted by activate on Feb-07-2006 06:29:

I can tell you that complaints will be looked into.
I know that club is committed to providing it's patrons with the best possible experience possible. there are definitely some kinks to be worked out and i have all the faith in the world that they will be.

That's pretty much how it is everywhere.. give or take $10. It's my understanding that the tables right beside the booth have a higher minimum purchase as well.

Posted by Atho on Feb-07-2006 08:24:

Actually, 175 is pretty cheap. Maybe that price will get you something girly, like alize. I know at Lot it's 225 a bottle for vodka, choices being a 40z of Absolut or a 26er of Grey Goose

Not a very good way of showing this by having horrible door staff on the first and second nights.

Yeah....we just bought the "cheaper" stuff, Crown, Absoulute, some rum I think lol.....cant really remember but it was all base and all 26'ers......clearly did the trick though.....I actually ended up dropping over 100 bones on Corona :S Good night though!

Despite being upset I haven't seen Scumfrog the last few shows. This thread has effectively turned me off TIL. The promoters definetly need to show that a bad staff and policies (ie dresscodes) scare ppl off in this scene.

^^^^^^

(after some confusion as to what 'English Style' ACTUALLY is....)

English Style: Minimum spending requirement on wardrobe: $700.

With English Style, you MAY be subjected to embarrassment (ie, yelling, being centered out, sworn at), pretty much being treated like the kid in grade six that wore a ski jacket from Zellars, and Orange Tab Levis (instead of the socially accepted Red). And your shoes BETTER NOT be the same ones from the previous week, or you WILL be scoffed at.

based on what I'm reading I definately know where I will not be going on Friday nights. I can't support a business like this.

Of course I realize that TIL doesn't give a rat's ass about my decision not to attend or anyone eles' complaints. Clearly they are trying to establish a Studio 54 type air about them. They probably love the complaints and hope for more of them. The more pissed people are about not being allowed in the more privileged those who get inside will feel which will result in TiL being the place to be because if you can get in there then you're one of the desirables. I can understand why people would want that. Personally I couldn't be bothered making the effort but many will.

No problem. I mean, u were on a guest list that did nothing for you. Thats a joke! Besides, that "+ 7" woulda meant free entry at any other club except TiL. FFS it was the DJ's guest list....

Yea I know! Like I was saying that night, "guestlist" gets you inside the club (provided that you are dressed appropriately). The guestlist woman was telling me that they weren't, for the most part, letting people into the club who didn't have guestlist.

Ok, so how about more reviews, aside from complaints?

Ahh yes. So here's my short review

I enjoyed the night very much but took it easy most of the night in the back of the club, just enjoying the beats. The sound on the dancefloor was brutally assaulting on the ears. Something needs to be done to equalize the sound to minimize distortion. The bass was all muddled (possibly the bass was turned up too much). My ears were bleeding when I was on the dancefloor!

Drinks were reasonably priced (~$6 each) and the crowd was quite amicable. I actually prefferred this crowd to a typical Guv, Dock, etc crowd. You would think that the door policy would ensure that a good levels of pretentiousness and ego would be present. However, everyone I bumped into or talked with was very pleasant

While I do recognize that the bouncers have been not the nicest to some people on this board, I personally had no problems with them. In my few encounters with the bouncers and serving staff they were very helpful and attentive.

As for the music: I went to see Fisher (I've seen the Frog a gagillion times ) Fisher's set was mixed for me... he had some stone grooves, but his set never attained a quality flow. I think that this is what is lacking in most contemporary livesets. The Frog played some tracks at the beginning of his set that I had never heard before. Siiiick complex basslines, but the quality of the sound system detracted from my enjoyment! We left around 3:30 as me and my posse were all quite tired at this point.

I wouldn't say drama Jon...I think it's just people voicing their opinions on the bad service that seems to be happening at TiL. Definatly not good for business!

Posted by DigitalMP on Feb-08-2006 19:53:

It's fairly well-known amongst those who are, well..."in the know", that Cevin Fisher's production is 10x better than his programming and mixing.

This is def true. However, I was wishing his set would be comparable to his 2003 (2002?) System Soundbar set.

Wow John...thanks a lot for helping us out here. Personaly I think TiL is a great club, but if they don't change some of their ways they're going to start losing a LOT of business.

Let's hope that things get better from here on out!!
Thanks again John!!

Thanks John....I'm glad to see someone is taking action rather then just bitching about...I know most of us don't have the connections to do something like this but it makes me feel good that someone who does will listen to us bitch and take action in hopes of change....you are a class act.

You guys know I'm here to help.

I don't like it when shit happens. You guys come out to have fun and get away from everyday stress from school & work, and it's not cool when it happens at club.

Whenever things happen at the door with guest list, I get upset and hope you guys know it's not my fault, regardless what club it is ... things happen last min with MGMT or the Owner(s) that changes things. This happens to every promoter.

This is why I have always supported you from the begining John. We as your patrons and yourself have always gone by your motto, "Support those Who Support You". Thanks for bringing this to management's attention. I know you're doing everything you can to put a stop to this.
