I would say that science and religion concern themselves with different questions. To oversimplify: science deals with the "how" and religion with the "why". I would say that religion is a subset of philosophy that does not intersect with science (as philosophy itself does).

Well, regardless of your caveat, I'll respond to your argument as if you were sober ... Umm well one need need to concern faith at all when we're dealing with facts. I don't know what kind of facts you deal with on a day to day basis but I tend to treat facts as ... factual. Haha what? Faith has offered NO EXPLANATION for how something has come from nothing. Yet it's tragically humorous how you attempt to slander science with the glib notion that faith in any way maintains a superior stance at the expense of logic. In all curiousness, can you logically argue your stance? |

It was a drunk post occ. Its all love.

I was brought up being told i could belive whatever i wanted to. my dad was brought up apiscapalian, my mom: baptist, now tehy are both agnostic. I am atheist. i see no proof, and no point. but do what you want as long as it dosnt hurt anybody to bad, or kill.
People may believe whatever they want, as long as they don't force that bullshit on me.
nobody knows for sure what the purpose of life is or what happens when you die. that's why i just live my life the best way i can and don't worry about it.

Religion is the source of wars, murder (look at the anti-Denmark protests), fanaticism, and diseases (e.g. just look at the attempts to block the sale of contraceptives in pharmacies in the US).
BTW, don't you find it funny that psychologists treat delusional and mentally ill patients, but when a truck driver has a "Real men love Jesus" sticker, that's considered perfectly normal and sane? The difference between faith and mental illness is actually not that big.

What stuns me around here, and in the American public in general, if you forgive the generalisation, is that the whole sphere of religion is increasingly being equated to a blind faith in a supreme creator that dictates morals and provides answers to all of life's questions. I would have hoped that such fundamentalism was left behind in the dark ages and was slowly fading away. Why can't religion be seen as a way of asking purely non scientific, philosophical questions, rather than a system that provides answers.
Once the religious right gets its head out of its ass or gets completely alienated by the mainstream (rather than embraced by it as seems to be the case in the US) people can see the positive side of religion and spirituality. Religion in it's pure sense should have nothing directly to do with politics or science.
wow that's greener than grass my friend
Here's a quote from Above & Beyond - Clubbing (01-01-05) whereby he sums it all up:
I think religion can be good for education......But when you grow up, you got to get rid of it
all religion is a load of bs to think that one so called god rules the universe bollox who made him??
americians hahahahahaha they are worse than the people they are murdering in the middle east all because bush gives out all this bs that god blesses him, then why did he execute 911 because it sure as hell wasnt osama bin ladens gang of psychos that carries it out with military precision
all religion is, is a tool to keep the fearfull fearfull, ancient believes in a modern world it just doesnt mix being from north belfast i have first hand of what religion does to people
in my opinion if you believe in a higher being your fool the only thing you can count on in life is death and taxes
but forgive me ramblin on im fooking stoned
Im a Christian and fail to see how I am less educated or labeled a moron because I have faith in something? I dont mind people that practice other religions or are even atheists but it bugs me when all those that have faith are labeled as unintellictual.

If religion is taken so seriously by some nut-jobs out there and thats including ALL religions then i think this quote from Einstein will make sense:
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Those religiously fanatic types are always the ones causing the troubles, but the ones that are religious but cope with everything in a neutral way are always branded because of every other nut-jobs anger. |
