Your average tempo will fall by 5bpm.

so true...this is exactly what happened to me...138 used to be ideal...now it's 132-133.

I don't beleive there is a heierarchy of genres but I definately observe people following a certain pattern. I don't necessarily agree with this but the way I notice people acting, they seem to act as if the eliteness of styles is arranged something like this(most elite to least):

techno
DnB
breakbeat
house
underground hiphop
progressive
electro
MCprog
florida breaks
trance
hardhouse
hardcore
eurodance
pop

and whenever people branch out to something new after enjoying trance they talk as if the have "moved up" as if they are somehow better now than the people who still like trance. There seems to be this popular assumption that people hop genres in this sequence, somthing like starting with trance, then progressive, then breaks, then techno, all the while arguing that each new style is more inventive and better than the previous. At least this is the typical pattern on tranceaddict, I think this started getting really noticable around 2002, everyone would talk about ascending into prog and rejecting trance, but I thought it was sheeplike, they seemed to all do this right after Sasha and Digweed did it, then other DJ's latched on, then people started getting all mouthy in articles and interviews and stuff, then kids on this site started repeating them.

I think it is a load of bullshit. I dont know why everyone assumes this hierarchy of elite genres, I branch out into different things all the time but I don't come here and proclaim superiority whenever I find something different.

I'm glad that the thread starter was struck by a sound he enjoys, I am not trying to be hostile with this post I just feel like I need to challenge this scale of eliteness everybody seems to be operating under, or at least try and ask some questions and understand it.
