Jon, Dave and I really do appreciate it!I just want to point out that it is sad to say that the trance scene in NYC is not as supportive of the great DJ's like Jon O'Bir. He played an awesome set and a lot of people missed out! WHAT'S GOING ON IN NYC! I remember people saying how he ripped it 2 years ago @ Ikon when PVD was doing NYE. Me and Dave tried to put this event together because we recognized Jon's talents and wanted to share that with NYC. When he was @ 114 in Philly, people came out and represented. When he was in LA the week before at Heaven, people came out and packed the place. Obey The Night wants to keep bringing GREAT talents like O'Bir to NYC so that people have something different to see, but we need the peoples' support. I'm not trying to talk down to anyone, nor dis anyone. I just want this city to unify and represent the music we all Love because it is hard in this city to throw a party when City gov't try to shut down small parties, classifies raves solely as a place to distribute drugs like if they where crack houses. That's not what we're about! But again the people have to come out and support so that the next show can be better. With out you there is no show! There is one thing I would definitely point out, I always get alot of people who like house music dis trance. I really don't understand why! Music is music. The same way there are different races of people on this planet, there are different styles of music! I do see alot of websites & magazines dissing trance. It's just not fair! But that is why we need to support Trance DJ's, Artists, and organizations that promote it! We need to improve the state of the scene in order for it to survive!!!!! |

| Originally posted by zizack ok, all that being said though, just booking a good dj is not enough. You have to make sure you book them at an awesome venue and promote it like hell in the right way. I didn't see any promotion at all besides on TA, so I bet most people didn't even know the party was happening. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the NYC scene because the party wasn't well attended, because there were packed houses at many other venues throughout the city that night, full of true edm fans. |

| Originally posted by DJ Skillz I definitly see what you're saying. We did have problems with that. Our Clubplanet email blast was delayed by 4 days due to the owner slacking off (the owner paid for the blast) It probably wouldn't have ever gone out if we didn't contact clubplanet directly. It didn't go out til the morning of the event. But it did still hit about 380,000 people who subcribed to the blast. I don't even think .05% (190 people) of the people who recieved the blast showed. There where many things that could have made things better. You live and learn. Just gotta do it better next time. |

And by the way i was born here and have lived in this country for 15 years so don't give me that bullshit about leaving because i don't like the music and stuff. There's other aspects of life u know besides music!!!!! I'm open to criticism as long as it is constructive!!!!!!As for the other noob who answered, "Ade kai gamisou" The funny thing is that it might not have as much trance in ny as some of us but trance djs(tiesto, ferry, armin, pvd) draw more crowds that all the house djs combined together!!!!!!! As for my knowledge of EDM ask people in the tracklisting section and they'll let u know!!!!!!!!! |

This discussion is so pointless. seriously.
Swamper made a great point. Like what music you want, like what continent you want, but dont bash other people for disagreeing. Its that simple folks.
BTW I would have loved to go to this event, but I really needed to take a weekend off from partying, and thus, went upstate to relax, and could not make it. It is in no way relation to my opinion of Jon. Next time
did anyone ever post pics of this place?
All i did was fuckin make a statement that i don't like different genres of house and all you guys are trying to rip my head off because of that.As soon as i posted that, everybody came out saying that i don't know anything about EDM, that i should go back to greece, etc. My post was not meant to judge other peoples music styles and preferences. Its their own prerogative to listen what they want .I just expressed my opinion in regards to the music trend that exists in new york city.I agree with dj skillz that in a way it is our own fault that the trance scene has not gotten the exposure that we will like it to get.
Just a little clarification cause this discussion totally got out of hand.

| Originally posted by vtec junkie I'm so sick of hearing about how much more educated european people are when it comes to EDM.....who gives two fucking shits??? Not me. It's not about who discovered the music first. You sit here and post this bull shit about respecting people's opinions but how the hell can you expect anybody to respect your opinion when all you do is bash house music (which pretty much is responsable for trance music even being produced.) Get your head out of your ass kid and take your attitude somewhere else cause we don't wanna hear it on these boards. You wanna cry like a little fucking baby about how house sucks......get the fuck out of NY already. |
