Also, I played a little bit with using the DJM-800 as the external Midi Clock for Ableton. Pretty damn sweet, as the DJM-800 will take the BPM from whatever you are playing and send that info to Ableton, to sync it up. This is going to take some time to perfect as, it jumps around and is not in perfect sync. I will say this, if it can be figured out, holy shit! PVD watch out! Could be pretty insane, this could be the ultimate setup.

Would definitely like to hear more about your progress with ableton...

Well, after more playing around. It is totally possible to have the DJM-800 run the midi clock for Ableton. You simply set up ableton to use an external midi clock. From thaty point you have 2 options, you can have the DJM auto detect the bpms and us that as the clock speed, or you can set the DJM to whatever BPM you want in .1 increments. Then from there , you have ableton at your fingertips to do whatever you want.

Is it accurate too? If you have an ableton loop running under your cdj track and you start to pitch the cdj up or down, will the bpm counter and, therefore, ableton keep up with the changes?

Thanks for your feedback. I'm very close to buying one of these things but wanna make sure it'll be kick-ass for an ableton setup.

The problem is the is DJM-800 gets confused with the 2 bpm readings, 1 from the cdj's and the one is hearing from the Ableton output and it keeps rising. The only way that I see to use this effectively is to set it manually.

This will probably be my next mixer, but for now my Vestax PCV 275 works fine. If I ever want another CDJ, or have the $$ for something like this, i'll get it, but now...probably not. Maybe it will come down in price in another few years perhaps...or maybe i'll just go for a DJM 400 if I really don't need a third CDJ (which I probably don't, but i've debated it).

Does anyone who has this already know how easy it is to trigger tracks in ableton using the DJM-800?

It seems this mixer doesn't have enough buttons to really make it useful for that purpose. Also, it seems to be missing unlimited rotary knobs - the ones without min/max points (don't know what they're conventionally called) - which would be really useful in ableton.

I have the same delemma as yours with my 800, I have everything mapped as far as effects are concern, but creating on the fly loops and activating them still done with shortcuts on the laptop.

Im just going to get the LX-2

Trigger happy here I come!
