its uranium or plutonium. not hydrogen. hydrogen is used to start the nuclear reaction, but has nothing to do with the chain reaction thereafter. all bombs these days are hydrogen bombs.

We have the technology to create clean nukes that can be guided into windows of buildings to take out single rooms. Granted that is a little over kill when a conventional bomb can do the same thing but the point is that nuclear weapons can be created in situations like that to make strategical options available. The only thing stopping us is the headline in the next morning paper, "United States Nukes Iraq." If you think the international community hates the U.S. now you havent seen anything if that happens. The next month other countries will be using their nuclear weapons for their strategic purposes(with less accuracy and more radiation) and eventually WWIII.

Actually... Hydrogen is just the fuel in a thermonuclear bomb, an atomic, fission bomb using plutonium (in most cases) or uranium (not much anymore, except maybe young nuclear countries) is used to superheat the hydrogen to a point where it fuses to create helium...

Often H-bombs then have what is called a third stage (the first being the fission primary, the second being the hydrogen fusion) which is a shell of uranium around the device that is ignited in a process known as fast fission (neutrons from the fusing hydrogen bombard the highly enriched uranium and cause it to to split).

Unknown to most, a majority of the energy released in a hydrogen bomb is not from fusion but from this third stage fast fission reaction.

yeah, so how is what i have said wrong? hydrogen is used (somehow) to start the reaction, yeah?

You said hydrogen is used to start the reaction, its not, uranium or plutonium is, then you said it has nothing to do with the reaction there after, it does, the neutrons generated from the fusion of hydrogen cause the fast fission in the third stage.

ahhh, ok. now i understand your previous post better. is good to learn. cheers
