I really think so We should first get more experience here and understand what we actually want to get as the final result. Just discuss it here...

This is what I have been waiting for, mates - we all will come together and make a 9 hours liveset like Tiesto next week, just because we will not choose four DJs

In relation to the post by Johnny Eckhart, dont take this the wrong way but what you said is utter crap! What you described is NOT Djing it's studio production, using a computer to do a mix for you cheating plain and simple. You don't see clubs with computers in them do you, and you never will. When your playing live you cant just stop and think "Oh I should have started the mix a few bars earlier"

Djing is about reading a crowd, knowing when to bring them up and down, building a set your crowd can relate to using platter control, eq-ing, beatmatching, scratching, and what ever else you can drag out of you tables and mixer, in real time. I'm a purist in the meaning that I would prefer to use only vinyl, but I have used CDs, and most CDs do not beatmatch for you, it is easier but you in no way can compare CD mixing to using a Computer.

If this little thing we are going to put together is going t be computer enhanced by any of the mixers, the name should be changed from " Tranceaddict Mix Competetion" to "Computer generated Compilation Challenge".

Just my purist 2 cents, Hope I didn't offend anyone, that was not my intent. I just bugs me to know that I've spent years developing a skill, that people can mimic using a computer, I think it cheapen's the entire profession.

Everyone has a difference of opinions

How about - everybody just chills out for a second and thinks about what they're arguing about. I think that everyone should just submit their names into this thread if they want to participate - and then worry about everything else once people have been voted for.

At the moment, a lot of people are bickering, yet only four people will be involved anyway!!

Let us let new applicants sign up here, and sort out the details later

He basically hit it righ ton the nose. Wait till you actually have something worth bickering about. For all we know this will go nowhere. I am personally glad to see such a great response for this.
Which is why i think it will go somewhere but who knows.

That's exactly why I was asking about some of the programs that are out. I don't use them, so I don't know. So far, I haven't used any computer programs that will do the mix for you, I imagine there must be some out there, now that I think about it, I just haven't seen them. As far as clubs with computers in them....many have them. Your samplers, Efx processors and the like are computers. I hear of many DJs, now that plug in their laptops and use them for various things (certain EFX and lord knows what else).
You said: When you're playing live you can't just stop and think "Oh I should have started the mix a few bars earlier" Well, actually, that happens all the time....but there's nothing you can do about it because you are "live".
Also it was said that "it's not DJing. it's studio production".
Ok...I guess I should have mentioned about doing things in real time as opposed to editing, remixing etc. But the fact remains that today's DJs have many more options and accessories at their disposal and should use whatever it takes (in real time) to achieve what they want their listeners to hear. (of course, that doesn't mean slapping on a pre made mixed CD and then fakeing the rest....which I've heard of people attempting to do before.....that's not DJing).
It was also said "computers don't have style" Well for that mattter, neither do turntables, mixers or any other equipment...that can only come from the DJ and how he/she uses them.

WOAH ! ! this is so cool to see ! i am glad that something that tempestrip and i was just mulling over in chat has had such a great response.
You guys have come up with some interesting question's and good suggestions but lets not get out of our depth here.

1st of all - Keyword = Simplicity
Meaning lets try to keep this as simple as possible, this is our 1st attempt at something like this, so to start off what could become a regular thing, is to use only FOUR ppl.
Those 4 ppl will be chosen by a vote, it needs not to be voted on by skill alone, there are ppl here with more skill than others, DJ Dawn and Trintiy (I have heard both these guys work and they are great DJ's) and i am sure there are many more of u just as capable.

The basic idea is to get 4 ppl to make a 80 min mix comprising of 4 20 minute sets.

If we do this again then those 4 ppl used on this one wont be included in the next one, this is to give everyone a chance at doing this.
So to those of you that think u wont be chosen this time, then u do stand a chance of being included in a future mix.

the voting starts tomorrow (Sat 2nd feb 2002) and will be open for a week.
So u have a week to decide or rather help us decide on how we will do each 20 min set.

2ndly HAVE FUN, this is a fun idea so we want u to have fun doing it and not get too worried about technical details.

3rdly, the playlist will be decided by the ppl doing the mix, as i said b4, those 4 will need to communicate with each other so as we dont get repeated tracks.

4thly, Thanks for your input and for wanting to participate in this, if it's a success i am sure we will do it again

PS: I do like the idea of making it like a TA retrospective of 2001 but i don't think the chosen 4 should be limited in thier choice of tracks just to 2001.

Peace

I think it'll be fun... so I guess, if there's still time, i'll join too

OK the POLL is up. go HERE to vote . . .

So no more entrants this time thank you.

I wanted to put my name down too, but as there seems to be only 25 voting options, i took myself out of the vote for this time.

You have a week to vote !

i don't like this idea of voting. popularity doesn't mean anything...and the ta's have nothing to go on except popularity.

we should have tryouts or something.

Posted by tranStreemAdmin on Feb-05-2002 06:43:

i am deeply saddened by some results

well I kind of agree, but this is just a test-run...we needed to pick some people to try if this works at all. If we did try-outs first this would take forever...
there already is a "real" mixing competition in the Amateur DJ Zone, and that started in November and the results are still not in. There were only about 10 mixes, we had 26 people in this one. The "judges" had to download all the mixes and listen to them over and over again.
Just imagine doing that for the try-outs. It's easy for me to say this, but the poll is a quick option to get this first test going.

ok done.

Posted by Miss Proximus on Feb-05-2002 22:15:

and it's not like this is gonna be the one and only mix eh?

the dj's that spin this time will be out of the next list so other dj's have a shot too...

wouldn't it be fun to have 10 TA compilation cd's in your cd-case? or whatever it's called

I'd love to have all those!! I bet you're all equally good dj's...who all deserve to be part of this

x prox
