Because there are those of us who started off with CDJs who plan on getting into vinyl later on. Do vinyl decks have BPM displays? No, and the mixers that have them are horribly inaccurate (I was spinning approx. 128 the other day, and the DJM said I was at 442-530).

It trains your ear so you don't have to look, so transitioning to vinyl actually makes sense to you, rather than going, "Uhh... How do I tell how fast I'm going?"

It's not to "look cool." A DJ should be able to do it by ear in the first place.

His point is, if you're using CDJs (especially pioneers) the bpm counter can save a few seconds of hefty pitch work since you can get it in the ballpark range quicker, and then go straight to finer adjustments. Its a tool to use. Of course we could just pull a morillo and burn everything at the same bpm, but thats no fun

On vinyl unless you write down the bpm of all your records (which could be just as easily done) you'll have to figure it out by ear which takes a few seconds longer, no matter how quick you are.

Sometimes I'm mixing stuff with no kick and the counters are completely off anyway so I dont use em at all.

lol...it was an interview posted on TA in this forum, where he said he was more used to the feel of vinyl, but he "had to embrace new technology" and thus start playing ONLY CDs and no vinyl.

Which is absolute BS, I saw Danny Howells dropping vinyl like it was 99' last saturday, and if theres one DJ who could get whatever track they fucking want pressed, its Tiesto.
