Screw cottages, head out to ski country and rent a challet. This could work because:

1) Its offseason and rentals are dirt cheap
2) Its offseason = less people around = no noise complaints
3) All of the benefits of cottages, 'cept you may not get a fireplace or a beach nearby.

The camping idea is good too, although cottage would be better for the not-so-outdoorsy people.
