lol..i can totally picture guidos in tank tops singing that crap now...then when the beat drops all jumping up and down pumping their fists and secretly grabbing each others asses and then blaming it on the fact that the club is too packed and they REALLY didnt grab their gym rats friends ass but got pushed by someone else and now its time to go fight that person.

Guys, I recommend that you visit a teenage disco sometime... you'll hear the worst piece of euro shit you can imagine, but look at the people: they're dnacing around and they're happy. This is where you'll say "but they have no idea what real music is" -> They don't care! For them, this is real music! They don't care about who's making profits recycling songs that's already been used. But the music they listen to, stuff that most of us would shoot ourselves if we had to listen to, is making them happy.
Just like there's music that makes us happy. In my case McProg, I happen to like the commercial trance and progressive music of today and I don't agree that the music lost it's good quality at all
The point in music is to bring out feelings in you, it has always been from the dawn of man. Just enjoy the style you like and let others enjoy what they like.
my 2 and a half cents
Children. There was tumor growth and metastasis for many years subsequent, but Children is the clearest origin of what has happened.
I'll put my head on the block, just to make things interesting. I'm a PvD fan (not a worshipper, I know he puts out some shit tunes), and I think he has mastered the craft completely. Now, do you think it was his (and Tiesto's, Armin's, & Ferry's) measure of somewhat commercial success that has brought about the so-called evolution of trance into a house-prog bastard child with bits of minimal trance thrown in for good measure. And if this is the case, wouldn't songs like "Tell Me Why", "We Are Alive", "Suburban Train", "Flight 643" & what not be the major contributing factor towards the production shift? Just a thought, nothing more....

Seriously. Aren't there better things to discuss in MD? You know. One's that aren't so cyclical and cliche and redundant?

Downfall of trance? Trance was never made to be an intellectual genre. Music academies will never study this genre of music. No musical genius is required to produce a trance track. It's produced for fun easy listening; for clubland. You people make it seem like Bach just sold-out and started writing bluegrass; like Hendrix started to play emopunk; like Richard David James agreed to perform with Radiohead. Trance is trance. Its easily accessible music made for the masses to dance to. Don't try to make it sound like it was better in some previous existence. You people are all just in denial. You've finally started to realize how shitty trance is as a style of music, and now you're trying to justify your past attachments to it by claiming it has evolved to shit. Trance then, trance now, its all the same. That's what we love it for. But its still shit music.
theres good trance and theres bad trance...i seriously think some of you guys have gotten a bit stuck. it isnt all that bad...there is enough good stuff being made...yes armin, pvd, ferry and tiest0rz may not do it for you..but listen to the other big 3 MIKE, Lawrence and j00f. Listen to the latest from the digital blonde, listen to some psy stuff...listen to some fresh unknown djs/artists - I REPEAT THERE IS ENOUGH GOOD STUFF BEING MADE!!!!!1
Trance is most assuredly not shit, nobody would go down to the record store & say "Hey, I got money to burn, let's get some imported shit music!" We love trance because it's emotive, it means something, it gives a black & white world a slap of colour. Trance is not for the masses, it is for those with ears to hear, with eyes to behold, with heart to feel. No genre starts of intellectually, they were all made for the entertainment of certain people, be it classical, rock, etc. But, with the passing of time, it was found that soemthing resided in a piece of music, an artist's soul, his/her blood, sweat & tears scream through every chord in good music & hence it is worthy of analysis. Trance is relatively infant, as is EDM at large, and I'm sure in time to come, people at large will come to realise that there are layers to peel away from trance, to behold, to marvel at. And right now, this destiny is being tarnished by pretenders to the throne, and you say that we're pretending it was better back then? Perhaps you are not part of those with ears to hear.
I buy only used music. Old music.
I am my dad now, at 20 years old! Looking back at the good old days!
legend b - lost in love

Sad truth is the old music is better man! Which goes of more on the floor, something from last week's top 10 or the club classic???
yup.
older has 2 appeals
1. nostalgia! "OMG THAT'S MY FAVORITE TUNE FROM 199x"
2. they just have way more energy, because that STYLE hadn't been exhausted at the time
shit im getting into this lame argument
shit!

Music made for Suzy Creamcheese, its all about the target audience. Most record companaies market their music for 14 year old girls who like to sing along to the radio. Frank Zappa learned of this practice, and named this stereotypical girl "Suzy Creamcheese". Evidently when the 14 year old girl market is locked down the record companies make the most money, there seems to be alot of market research on this.
So you hear a tune, and if you can picture Suzy Creamcheese singing along with it, then there you go, bring on the rot. Alot of trance I think is girl music in much the same way, and alot of the backlash against trance is a shift towards music that is obnoxiously masculine, personally I wish there could be a balance instead of these bipolar stereotypes that our music employs. This balance stuff doesn't seem to be going so well right now though, people seem to be pursuing this style that fuses together genres but its all so unexciting, if you are going to hybridize stuff, then leave the boring parts behind.
I would hope that somebody out there would picture me as their target audience instead of suzy creamcheese or jonny bogbog, but I guess there just aren't enough people like me for that to be a good business move. Maybe this is why I am enjoying internet music, I imagine computer geeks are more the targe audience there.

i can't really name one track that is to blame, but i'll name one dj though! and that is armin van buuren. he's spinning so much fluffy unimaginative crap and signing stuff like robert nickson etc. on his labels. it's all just crap and IMO that is what's wrong with trance right now. i think that trance would be much better without armin (although i do enjoy some of his old remixes a lot).
tiesto's 'silence' remix on every single trance mix in a 9 month period.
i srsly ffd through that terrible track anytime i can.
and when MOS sold out....
i personally like 'as the rush comes', i don't care!
there is still a lot of good trance being produced....i really like a few tracks on 2005 godskitchen global whatchamacallit - trance cd.
and the darker trance has been solid throughout the years....
viva la trance.
