As of now, there's nothing too crazy going on in the Mets minor leagues. Though... they do have Henry Owens in A-ball (he's old for A-ball... but still), who has been RIDICULOUS as their closer. Last time I checked, he had pitched 5 innings with no hits, 1 BB, and 18 Ks. He'll be up to AA soon, probably early May. If he exceeds there, he'll probably jump right up to the Majors.

I really, really don't want to trade any prospects like Milledge to get a starter mid-season.

pitching is always the key. i think its too early to question the mets rotation although andruw jones set off some air raid alarms in canada thanks to pedro. the strength of the mets bullpen will really help take the pressure off the starters. if you guys get really desperate you can always make a trade with the cubs because they are unhappy with wood and prior.

looks like derrick lee is going to miss a few games. but what i love is dusty baker's quote

"You never see anyone lose two guys on one play," Baker said. "But nobody cares if Lee's hurt or not, except us and the people in Chicago and the people who know him. We'll just have to adjust and just keep on adjusting."

this guy is just a complete jackass. everyone complains about ozzie being a controversial manager but what about dusty. this is the same guy that stole holy water to bless kerry wood's and mark prior's arms before last year. this is also the guy that said that black players are better during the summer because they were brought to this country to work in the heat. even though im not really a cubs fan, i hope they get rid of him because they can do a lot better without this guy.

Julio Franco breaks the record (which had stood since 1930) for oldest player to homer in an MLB game
If he stays healthy, he'll have plenty of chances to extend the record

In the same game, Kaz Matsui hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season - the first to do so in each of his first three MLB seasons.
This one was an inside-the-park HR

Bad news for the Cubs, with Derrek Lee breaking 2 bones in his wrist. Unless his teammates can pick the slack, it will soon be 98 years and counting.

with the help of Coors Field (and possibly other things ), Barry Bonds finally hits a home run, after 12 games and 30 at-bats

So... remember when I mentioned Henry Owens in the Mets minor league system? I said he was at Single A... but it's Double A, which is much better and makes these stats I'm about to show even more eye popping (eye popping is an understatement):

13.1 ip, 4 hits, 5 walks, 2 ER, 31 Ks

That's insane.

Posted by Spartan on Apr-29-2006 14:39:

^haha woah, there are only 40 outs possible, so he must've struck out more than 75% of the batters.

Pujols ties the April record with 13 home runs, with chances to break it
That means he's on pace for 78 HR for the season

Nice pics, verndogs!

Ugh, the wheels are falling off the Braves. I am not too disappointed, as they have exceeded my expectations for so many seasons now (in the regular season, that is). I am picking Mets to win the World Series this year. Don't forget.

Henry Owens watch:

14.2 IP, 4 hits, 5 walks, 2 ER, 33 Ks

Damn... not often that a pitcher has 2 Strike Outs in an inning and 1/3 and his K/9 rate goes DOWN. Ha!

Yanks and Sawx all tied up at the top of the AL East, in time to set the stage for their first meeting this season

Sox get Doug Mirabelli back from Padres just in time to catch Wakefield tonight

20 Million Dollar Question for Astros - will they re-sign Roger Clemens?
They seem to be doing pretty well without him so far.

My little brother during Extended Spring Training with the Gulf Coast League Twins in Fort Myers, Florida.
I know it's not MLB, but he's supposed to get there someday...

Posted by partyhopper on May-02-2006 04:06:

dang, Marlins game (vs Phillies) drew a crowd of 6,017 today
Smallest crowd for Marlins since 2002.
I'm sure some minor-league games draw a larger crowd than thast

Without the Zambrano/Kazmir trade, Wilpon never woulod've fired Duquette and hired Omar. Which means no Beltran/Pedro/Wagner/Delgado/LoDuca/X...

tell him to not throw bats at umpires and he will be okay. the twins are always bringing guys up from their farm system so he has a good shot at being in the big leagues.

Anyone here impressed with great starts by Reds/Tigers? Or even the Rockies, who has the NL's best batting coming into their series with the Braves.

Or do you guys think those teams will fade as the season goes on? I personally think Reds have a good shot at making the playoffs this year. I missed out on the acquisitions they made in the offseason.
