EDIT: TIL isn't really "new" it's been open for a while, even before SOHO fridays.

do u fail to see how people are being denied the oppurtunity to see DJs they want to because every bouncer has a different opinion?

No, I'm just not naive enough to believe that I have the right to see a DJ based solely on the fact that he is playing in a venue which is located in the city that I live in.

well if hes been let in previous times, and not this time, because all of a sudden they feel they gotta change their "policies" on the snap of a finger, he has every right to judge the functioning of the club

Posted by slingshot on Apr-03-2006 01:38:

this is london is not a "new" club...

alot of you guys are talking like it's a brand new place when in actuality it is not. This is London has been operating for quite some time now and they have merely changed owners and adopted a new style of music for friday nights.

the crowd of this is london isn't really much differnt than what it was pre charles. the club has a fairly large following and those same patrons will continue to go there regardless of what style of music is being played.

you guys have to take into consideration that alot of partiers in this city aren't obessive music freaks like us.

(insert what jon jon said here)

I'm sorry, but I'm not just going to let it go. Will bitching about it change the situation? No. Will I keep bitching about it? Yes. Why? Because it makes me feel better.

I don't believe that I have the "right" to get in, but I do believe that it's bullshit that I'm being told I can't get in because "I'm too young".

Posted by The Highroller on Apr-03-2006 01:39:

p.s. I know TiL isn't a new club. I was refering to their new night (SoHo).

Posted by Ablefunk on Apr-03-2006 01:43:

Jesus,

Didn't know everybody was so up in arms about TIL. Am i the only one who got in and had a good time? People are going crazy, and I think may be crying while typing. All u should do is try your best to get in(go at 10:30, wear everything right, look the part). If you can't get in doing all of this, than cut your losses and move on. Don't be a friggin crybaby on some forum for 2 days.

Posted by slingshot on Apr-03-2006 01:43:

i think the whole age issue at the door might have had alot to do with how packed the club was inside...

but you are.

It sucks Graham, but this isn't like you were treated a certain way unfairly or unexpectedly.

i've had a great time the two times i've been there. i've had no altercations with anyone (quelle suprise!) and they've brought in some good djs that i have enjoyed. i also enjoy not having to see them in the guv main room, since i would miss them as i refuse to go to that hell hole (note: i make exceptions for danny).

fuck, i pretty much dress the same to go there as i always dress to go out. big deal. the only thing i think is gay is that bottle service area right around the dj booth as i cuts down on my dj whoring abilities. LOL.

I agree...and I've never even been there.

the negativity in pretty much every review thread on TA is all I need to know that I will never bother to check it out...not even for (and I can't believe I'm saying this) Zabiela.

damn the f**kers who booked him there and not Guv again...because that was one hell of a fun night.

it has nothing to do with thinking that a club does/does not have the right to do what TIL is doing...of course they do. But just as they can operate as they please, people will choose not to go becaue of it. I'm sure they could care less...they seem to be doing fine.

Posted by Cribby on Apr-03-2006 02:39:

I have mixed feelings. I can agree with Graham and bitch about it, because it gets in the way of seeing some of our favourite deejays. When I thought I wouldn't be able to see Donald Glaude I freaked out. But this is why I think the System Soundbar and Rampant promotions should move to a different venue. I will not vote for any option, because I fall in the:

I loved TIL, but the random age restrictions and rude door staff is ridiculous; I will not go there again category.

The venue itself has great potential. The perfect solution would be to make SoHo fridays more of an afterhours targeted audience. Dress code is fine, just get rid of the age restrictions and I'll make it my home.

like techead said, charles and jimmy are very respectable individuals in the industry with many years of experience under their belt. as for the 'vibe' that really depends on who you're talking to. personally i do not like TIL but i do know many people that really enjoy it there.
i have only been to TIL once for fabian strong's birthday. didnt have any trouble getting in probably because i went before they opened the doors. i spoke with a couple bouncers inside the club and they seemed pretty cool. they probably arent the same 'horrible' bouncers that many people complain about at the door. i love the venue itself. really nice layout and awesome decor. the only thing that i dont like is the crowd. robbie rivera and donald glaude were playing the night that i went and so many people had no idea who they were.

exactly!
if you dont like their dresscode policy or age policy then they dont want you there. i think its sort of whining about bars being 19+ when you're 17.
i used to love dresscode clubs. now i like going to places where i can dress comfortably since i intend to spend quite a few hours there.

i think the 21+ thing is okay for TIL. if they loosened up their dresscode and made it a stylecode and fixed their door situation the place would do a lot better. but the place is still doing kickass the way it is right now. if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Its life.Just consider yourself lucky that you live in Canada and not the US.At least you can drink at 19 here.We were all younger at some point and somewhat limited by age restrictions.IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE

Posted by iLLnaDa on Apr-03-2006 02:44:

I won't complain about the club...the crowd yeah but whatevs I can deal with that......I have been a patron for a few years now and will continue to be!

i still have yet to check out Soho fridays. but i haven't had problems with the venue for other events, like the Cher Farewell Tour end of Tour party, or the Eden Parties. may check it out for Mister Calderone

These arguments are so stupid. That's like saying, "You should let the government take part in sponsorship scandals and steal money off tax payers. Consider yourself lucky that you don't live in a 3rd world country."

Why because i was never 17 and not be able to do what i wanted? When I was under 21 i had to basically bribe my way into clubs when visiting NYC.Did it suck?Yeah! But i did what i had too...simple as that.If you are not old enough or cant afford something there are more things then clubs you wont be able to get either.

TIL was like this before charles bought it
it was always 21+ and it was always an "elite" party to go to
it was always a dress code like that and it was always a "bouncer wont let in someone he doesnt want to"
trust me on this, its their policy and they will stick with it and no one can do anything about it. If i was you guys i would just boycott the club and stop going there but badmouthing the club is not gonna solve the problem. I'm pretty sure the club will survive no matter..
this is basically what they are doing: dont like TIL? go to guv, dont like guv? go to TIL.
ps. dont like both go to boa/sonic/footwork/etc

I missed that too...this sums it up nicely...you're quite right.

It's not like they're in the dark about their practices, lol...they know exactly what they are doing.

I think many people are complaining because typically this business model hasn't really been found in the EDM scene (at least not in Toronto and not for these types of DJs).

I've never had to decide that I'm not going to go hear someone like Zabiela spin because of an ill-defined dress code, other random door policies, etc.

unfortunate..but you're right. There are others who love this perceived exclusivity, more "upscale" crowd (I use the term loosely, lol)...in fact, they go looking for places like that.

with all the bottle service anemities and mainstream House music on the rise in TO venues i can only see it getting more prevalent ..

Posted by all-nite-freak on Apr-03-2006 03:08:

Supper Clubs and Bottle Service is catching on everywhere.Like Skipper mentioned before sometimes people just want to look good and feel good when they go out.Thats why these places make the real $$$.
