Today was first day that the House of Commons convened since Nov last yr.
Kinda long time, if you think about it.
And just think the summer recess is coming soon.

I'd try to find one myself...but I'm too stoned |
Well I don't see anything changing here in Montreal. Most anytime of the day I walk down St Catherine to go to school and always smell marijuana in the air at some point. At night, usually I pass up many people smoking a joint as I walk down the street.
No new news here. The Liberals waited too long, and we all knew once the CPC was elected that any chance of lightening the pot laws would be put on hold. I'll just do what I've done for the last 6 years... not get caught. You have to be pretty stupid to be busted with weed on you anyway, there are 2 times that I have more than the joint I rolled on me outside my house, after a grab, and never.
Police still don't give a shit unless you're causing trouble, and if memory serves me correctly, it was a judge that said that Canada doesn't have a good enough law in place to actually convict people for possession of small ammounts of marijuana (which is what triggered the decriminalization thing in the first place in recent years), so a lot of judges dismiss simple possession cases.

Originally posted by swilly The former Liberal government had drafted the legislation, which would have made possession of less than 15 grams of marijuana a minor offence punishable by fines of between $100 and $400. Those found with small amounts would no longer have had a criminal record.

[i][b] Let me know what these "Canadian values" are, because I sure don't understand it.
i highly doubt the liberals would have ever put that legislation through.
It would have seriously hampered cross border relations, which are important to canada, and the argument about trade interuptions, i think , is valid.
but think of it this way. the liberals introduce the bill, and all of a sudden a lot of young people will listen up and go "hey, theryre gonna make that shit legal - i'm gonna vote liberal"
i think its a pretty good way to get young people who might not either care, or vote NDP, to think of voting liberal.

Conforming to others beliefs based on geography is lame.

Originally posted by dnmr personally i dont really care and Im a big ass pot head too. smoking weed is something that should be done somewhat privatly, keep that shit away from school yards and such etc... plus as long as your not a dick cops really wont give a fuck anyways they dont have time for your shit if you have a small amount, plus the liberals didnt really do shit to legalize it anyways.. weed is pretty much legal here anyways ( its like an unspoken canadian law) is long as your not being a dick or comitting a another crime while in possesion you have nothing to worry about. Just keep smoking and be smart about it PS we all know goverment sucks ass too...so lets keep it the way it is - Carney

Originally posted by Beach420 Well said my friend! People will continue to smoke weed whether it is legal or not, as we have been for the many years. It is accepted into the Canadian culture (well by a large percentage). Cafes and stores offer smoking products and encourage people to smoke. Cops really dont give a shit if your smoking a joint. Kensington market for example, HotBox Cafe...hmmm i wonder what the stands for? haha, definetly one of my fav spots, and have been there more times then i can count, and have never seen a cop near or inside the place. Around the corner though i did see them bust 2 dudes who were selling bootleged dvds. Governments can make their speeches and do whatever the hell they want, but i honestly dont think it will change the way we canadian feel about our pot smoking. For all you pot smoker out there i encouage you all to come down to the Marijuana march that takes place sometime in May. Such an awsome event...i will share more details closer to the time

while the Liberals dragged their feet forever, I think it's less about the actual laws being changed. Society, in general, certainly won't support legalization and likely won't even widely support formal decriminalization. But if police and the courts stop arresting and prosecuting, the desired end result is still achieved: possession operates under the radar.
But now, according to some criminal lawyers and others, the police are stepping up arrests/charges for possession (don't have sources handy, but it's been in various media reports in recent weeks).
While a major part of the issue is not wanting people to have criminal records from possession (so it's good if the cases aren't successfully prosecuted or plead down in court)...it's also about wasting police and court resources. If someone is arrested, charged and goes to court, that's a LOT of money being pissed away.

I enjoy getting baked - though don't do it that frequently, once, maybe twice a week...
i dont care if its decriminalized or not.

Gateway drug?
Chew on this one for a minute.
I would NEVER have tried pot if I hadn't been a cigarette smoker first.

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 I'm pretty positive that researchers and many doctors are sure that it's not a gateway drug, but I still hear that rhetoric from conservatives. I was just having this same conversation from a right winger in my history class the other day...he firmly believes it leads to more serious addictions because once you get that high, you want better and more intense ones so even if marijauna is natural, it's still dangerous. I think it's bs.

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 I agree with that. But saying that marijuana is responsible for people using other substances is a tad ridiculous, because painkillers such as T3's, percs and alocholic drinks could be as much to blame as smoking weed. In the end, it's the user's own choice. Getting tough on weed again will only waste resources and possibly ruin the lives of someone who gets caught with dope and has to pay for that for the rest of their life.
