Contest by country?

bad idea but w/e

So what exactly have I done wrong with my contest in particular? I put a lot of effort into compiling something which I thought would be fun and interesting, but you make it sound like that was the wrong thing to do and you'd much prefer a bunch of obvious anthems. Criticising the track selection because it doesn't cater to your individual tastes is akin to criticising a general knowledge quiz because you've never studied a particular subject.

I appreciate that this is tranceaddict, but why does that mean other styles of EDM shouldn't be included? After all, I would hope that most people here listen to something other than trance at least once in a while. And if they don't, why the hell not?

I also appreciate that posting scores so early into the competition may put people off entering, but I was only following what had gone before and besides, it's only a bit of fun. Well it's supposed to be, anyway. Evidently I was nave to think that I could please everyone, so apologies to all who don't appreciate the diversity.

exactly...i mean i did terrible in those because i don't really listen to much trance...but if you put a large variety...then i usually am competitive...

even still i usually don't get the trance tracks i know are easy points for everyone else because they all sound the same to me

i hope you didn't take this thread as an attack at your contest MaRt...i think you did a great job with it. this thread was more just to see what people that don't usually enter think about the contests in general...

i think the diversity is great... i mean even if we made it all "trance" people would complain it was never on ASOT so it doesn't count .

I wish i had time to enter more often...

& hearing a track i can't remember the name to absolutely drives me crazy!

[MaRt] you've done a superb job!!! This discussion just happened to blossom up during your contest...

+1

In my opinion, this contest is well done. Even I was able to identify a couple of the tunes.

Posted by [mart] on Apr-07-2006 16:10:

Well it does feel somewhat like an attack when the contest's only just started and already people would rather it be swept under the rug in favour of something else. Oh well, and all that.

well sorry if this thread made you mad. i didn't mean for it too...

maybe i should just delete it. someone suggested we get the oppinions of what we could do in the future, so i started the thread...sorry . i didn't really think through that the contest was still on going and maybe we should wait until it's done...sorry i jumped the gun :/

apart from some bad timing i dont feel this thread should be closed. I dont personally join in the ID contests a) due to my dated knowledge of trance and b) i dont have time considering everything else i do around here.

Mart i dont believe Jason meant this in anyway negatively about your contest but if some of the ideas from this thread were considered for future ID contests then it may improve them.

re-opened.

no worries...we actually already talked about it in PM. and yeah i think i closed it prematurely hehe ... i was going to reopen it, but obviously can't in this forum hehe

Posted by [mart] on Apr-07-2006 17:44:

Thanks for re-opening the thread, Coup. I know that it wasn't an attack on my contest but briefly took the criticism personally as I so often do (though not to the extent Jason thought when he closed the thread!). It'll be interesting to see whether anyone can propose something that satisfies everyone...

because i dont get 0 day releases

I've always listened through the IDs in every contest so far but never entered.. for various reasons.

Even if i've been listenin to EDM as long as i can remember, I suck sooo much in IDing and trainspotting overall, especially in the type of trance alot of people want the contest to be like, unless i don't own the tracks myself or have listened to them recently. I tend to remember random bits and probably unnecessary info here and there but straight IDing isn't my thing at all. That's how my mind works. Sadly.

My mind is also too much of a perfectionist so i won't enter if i don't get a somewhat reasonable score, reasonable IMO of course depends on the contest and if i'm sure how much am i gonna get, possibility not to win isn't the reason why i haven't entered.

As i don't collect nor listen mp3s much at all and so don't have terabytes of mp3s on my HDD, it's a bit too much of an effort to browse through my whole record collection to find some particular tracks i'm sure i have.. takes too much time which i never have enough for a task like that.

I think the contests shouldn't last so long but rather like a week. Then for most of us there wouldn't be much time to make a thorough search for tracks in online stores and mp3 collections but just to get a first impression and just listen and listen the IDs over and over again if you might remember it.. and then send the ideas in. If not, then you would be like me. Hahaha! Maybe even Chris or you Jason would have chances to win the contest then because the lack of mp3 resources wouldn't be a disadvantage anymore.

I might have entered Mart's contest but i'm too much of an insider, had some tiny little part in the making of this contest so it would have been cheating if i'd entered.

because the prize sucks. seriously, seems like a pain in the arse to come up with a new contest. add a CD or vinyl and you'll get more entrants.

crap! i was just going to donate one of my shitter ones too.

Am I the only one who thinks more samples are better? It's more gratifying because you can ID more, and it allows a larger range of scores. If you had 30 samples, then you'd probably end up with a very crowded scoreboard.

Posted by keithos27 on Apr-07-2006 18:07:

i think i'll be able to pull off 10 of the 60... how sad

i'm already enjoying the ID contest though...

would like to see shorter contest periods though...

yeah i mentioned that earlier...early on in the competition we had ties and stuff. i think the more samples over more genres allows for a great diversity of tunes and therefore a greater diversity in results...

Posted by tiesto14 on Apr-07-2006 18:26:

i dont enter because, floorfiller as you know, i have enough friggen IDs that no one can solve.
