In my opinion, a DJ is great when the most noticeable thing is not he himself, but the music he plays. Now tell me this: when you go to see Paul van Dyk, do you stand there and admire his celebrity and mixing, or do you come out on a true high as you dance? When I saw him in November, people were mainly crowded around him and watched his every move. Meanwhile, the music he played -- much of it not his own, but from Politics -- was rather dark and unpleasant, with almost no euphoric "hands-in-the-air" moments, which (for me, at least) is the best sign of a DJ giving the crowd a good time.

paul van dyk - the cd is aiight i guess, cd 1 sucks ass, cd 2 only has like 4 good traxx, the rest are boring.. so ur wasting money...

FYI, Paul van Dyk doesn't even like the term "trance," he prefers the term "electronic music."

because pvd is in north america more than ferry et. al, and everyone on this side of the atlantic has the tendency to associate the word trance with ian van dahl, barthezz, dannii minogue, atb, darude, ayla and SO FORTH.

99% of people on BOTH sides of the Atlantic associate "trance" with darude, ian van dahl, atb, fragma, etc. People everywhere like pop.

And by the way, if you're right about the fact that PvD is in North America more often than Ferry & Co., wouldn't that make PvD's "intelligent" trance more popular and accepted here, than uplifting/pop trance?

not really. it could be just that pvd has more experience and is better established as a dj over the years... or is just a bigger draw over here (which IS true in most cases)
anyways regardless, his style of house (as shown in his longer sets) and trance DOES go over well.. i haven't heard a review yet of ferry corsten in north america outside of TAs in toronto, etc...

im talking about the majority of ppl who go see big djs, not just tranceaddicts of course

well... "Trance" is too SPECIFIC... If for example, Paul not just play trance but Progressive and House and maybe Techno.

Don`t you it`s easy for a person to say, blah blah, DJ of Trance, Techno, House and Progressive Trance... from blah... or etc...


Why not just globalize the term where IT really roots from...

"Electronic Music" which i think, it`s a good term to be callED.

You are one fucked up ... POD was amazing and you probably never heard the album. A guy reworks all the songs in a mix cd and makes them better........i mean da hell is going on. I know people are entitled to there own opinions but yours is lame imo. Oh well....opinion being differents makes this world unique.

POD - definitely it is worth the price tag, as torontotrance said, pvd reworked all the tracks. when u compare the effort put in both the cds, POD n TN2001 , POD sure stands out.

Yes, I've actually heard the POD... I've been playing them on my MD player every single freaking day to school and back (2 hour ride there and back), ever since it came out in October or something, and it is just getting better every time I hear it... It might be the same bass line throughout the CDs, but the mixing, the breaks, beats, and all kinds of other elements in these songs are just amazing... gotta give the respect to this guy.

He never plays tiesto/armin/ferry productions, and that is why I like this CD and his sets... since I get to hear tiesto/armin/ferry productions all the freaking time, and every DJ I've heard has stuck with the hits these guys have made when he needed a floor filler... PVD on the other hand introduces all these new artists, new songs many of us haven't heard yet (well, me at least), and is not trying to be too commercial anyway...

Well, actually The Politics Of Dancing didn't turn me on as much as I hoped, but technically and musically it's a real masterpiece. You can't compare it to other mix CDs since it's so unique and there's a lot more work behind it than the mix CD compliations normally do.

I like both...

mixed albums, but they are obviously different. But I love em both.

- TN2001 starts off with 5-6 amazing and popular trance anthems...
- TN2001 gets into hard trance/hard house in the 2nd half of the first cd interspered with a couple more good trance songs
- TN2001 seems to have too many songs, so the songs are too short
- TN2001 2nd CD isn't as good.
- TN2001 is pretty accessible to the masses, great introduction to mainstream trance.

- POD is more subtle and takes time to grow on you
- POD isn't as dynamic as I'd hoped... (if only PvD made this mixed album in mid 1999 to early early 2000 when he was tearing it up)
- POD has a certain style and beat that is consistent through most of the songs that makes it kind of monotonous sometimes... cept maybe elevation... but PvD intentionally did that.
- POD doesn't have as many classic/super popular tracks... but that is sometimes a good thing... POD won't sound as cheesy and overplayed months from now.
- POD takes you on a journey

I like POD slightly better than TN2001...

btw, I've seen most of the top DJs live and I've never seen a crowd as pumped and jumping up hands in the air and going wild as with PvD.

Do you know that Paul mixed some bassline with his Roland Equipment

I've listend to some of PvD's picks and productions.. Mehhhh, pretty good. I must be missing something here..

look lets settle this, its all personal preference, each dj has their own style for track selection and mixing, if you like ferrys style then get tn2001, if you like the way pvd did the cd, then get his, its all about what gets u pumped, theres no right or wrong track/cd
