Sabres advance, finishing off the Flyers with a 7-1 pasting
Canes knock out the Habs, winning Game 6 in OT, on a blue-line slap shot
they won 4 games in a row
top 4 seeds in the East advance
next round for the Eastern Conference:
Hurricanes vs. Devils
Senators vs. Sabres
if Ducks beat Flames tomorrow, then it will be the bottom 4 seeds in the Western Conference all advancing

sleep well until October, Sport of Hockey!
And please fix some of those damn idiotic rules and penalty calls!
Posted by pvd420 on May-03-2006 03:34:
real teams adapt to the way the game is played and called. people need to stop whining when their team gets knocked out and blaming it on penalties and such...

I am so good.

stupid rules? Just off the top of my head...
1) Delay of game penalty for accidentally shooting the puck over the glass in your own end - simply retarded, enough said.
2) Goalies not being able to play the puck in the corners. They have a damn stick, they can go wherever they want.
3) Instigator rule - only makes the fighthing "issue" worse in the end.
4) the two referee system needs to go
5) Shootout - I"m sick of pandering to American audiences. What is wrong with a goddamn TIE?
And don't get me started on the calls. Any real hockey fan is thoroughly disgusted these days. A team cannot adapt when you have TWO refs who are never on the same page as far as calling the game. Way too many 5 on 3s even in places unheard of before like in OVERTIME. You do not put a team two men down in an OVERTIME PLAYOFF game because he shot the puck over the glass by mistake or tapped the guy's hip with his stick. It's getting to be too much like basketball, but no wonder since they have a basketball moron running the game anyway.
Sure, the game might be a LITTLE bit faster...and there are a FEW more goals being scored but no goddamn wonder with all the power plays.

Pretty much implemented to speed up the game by discouraging the easy way out for defenders. I like this rule, along with not being able to change when you ice the puck.

Didn't really have an effect on goalies.

at first I was skeptical with the shootout, but it's really damn exciting being in the arena when it happens. The NHL has to pander to the casual American fan in order to stay in business.

Ducks win Game 7 over Flames in Calgary, 3-0
too bad there won't be a battle of Alberta between Flames and Oilers
seeds 1-4 all knocked out
seeds 5-8 all advance
Western Conf semis:
Sharks vs. Oilers
Avalanche vs. Ducks

okay... here's my prediction and my explanation.
There are three dynasties right now in the NHL.
Colorado Avalanche
Detroit Red Wings
New Jersey Devils
Since 1995, all three of these teams won a Stanley Cup at least once or twice during a span of three to four years.
After the Rangers won the Cup - Devils Avalanche Red Wings Red Wings
After the Stars won the Cup - Devils Red Wings Avalanche Devils
After the Lightning won the Cup - ??? does anyone see a connection?
so already, i'm picking my winner...
New Jersey Devils def Edmonton Oilers 4-1
A 4th Stanley Cup in 12 Years!

wait what? why does the two referee system have to go? you'd be missing a lot more shit than usual w/o it. it helps to have the official up high especially in the offensive zone, that way he can see any infractions near the blue line while one official can see the stuff in the corner.
Posted by DJ.MD on May-04-2006 20:09:
Here's my picks, only got 3 wrong in the 1st round
San Jose vs Edmonton - Edmonton in 6(OILERS ALL THE WAY BABY!!!)
Anaheim vs Colorado - Anaheim in 7
Ottawa vs Buffalo - Sens in 6
Carolina vs NJ - NJ in 5 (they will lose a game this series)
Edmonton has gone crazy!!!

the game needs consistency. One ref calls a stick hold for example, while the other often does not.

have you ever played hockey? It's extremely easy to put the puck over the glass by accident when someone is rushing at you plus, the glass is NOT the same height in every arena. In some, it is actually very low. This is a basketball type rule...how long does it take to set up a faceoff back in the zone? About 45 seconds? NHL games are over within 2.5 hours...this isn't baseball.
Calling penalties on goalies because they touched the puck an inch or two over that mythical red line is beyond retarded.
Shootouts are no way to solve games. They don't do it in the playoffs, they shouldn't do it in the regular season. You don't see proper football fans in Europe whining about draws do you? The day the shootout comes into the playoffs is the day hockey is officially dead. but you never know with Bettman running the league.
The NHL does not need to be in places like Nashville and Carolina. Just wait until those teams start tanking it....just like Pittsburgh. And they sure as shit shouldn't be changing the game to get those uneducated fans interested in the game. Concentrate on the core supporters.

A dynasty?!?!?!?! Are you kidding me...when the Habs win four in a row from 76-79 (and many more times successively), the islanders from 80-83 and the oilers winnning in 84, 85, 87, 89, 90...there is NO way you can call that a dynasty ..the closest would be the Red Wings from 97 98 and 02
I think the more appropriate term you should use is perennial Cup favorites

but that's because one might have a better view of the play than the other, right? i mean a ref can't call something he doesn't see. (just playing devil's advocate)

I agree that there should not be franchises in some of the cities above mentioned. A few other to consider are the Coyotes, Lame-Ducks, Lightning, Panthers, and the Stars. I enjoy the Stars the most out of list simply because of the history that they've had. Seems ever year they have quality team. Both the NHL and NBA should consider droppping a few franchises. Both leagues have seen a major decrease in talent because of the new teams.
I also think its a joke when 'experts' say the cap is going to level the competition. Players are going to go to teams that have the history of winning and future to succeed. In a few years, we'll see players staying on certain teams, just like before the 'new NHL.'

well what it comes down to now is that NJ must win game 3 obviously. i dont normally complain but if you look at the stats for the # of goalie interference calls in both the regular season and the playoffs, carolina was up near the top for getting called. In the first two games i cant even count the # of times that they have run into brodeur. i agree that parise's goal last night shouldnt have counted because gomez was interfering with ward, but calls like that should have been called in game 1 too.
i wont blame last night's loss on anything, it's the playoffs and stuff like that happens...that's what makes the playoffs the playoffs.
going into the playoffs i didnt want the devils to play the rangers because they were either going to lose to them or have to fight and claw to beat them and be tired for their next series. it seems that something the opposite has happened. they had such an easy time dominating the rangers, that they have lost focus and forgotten what they had to do to win out the last 11 games of the regular season to solidify their playoff seed.
things better change in a hurry or else this series will be over fast. to have any kind of shot against this quick canes team they have to win the next 3 games...
on a side note i find it amusing to hear the ranger fans talking shit cause they dont like the devils...all season they went on and on about being in first place when they hadnt made the playoffs for the last 9 years and now they so quickly forget they only scored 4 goals last series, led for only 4 minutes all series, and got swept...

and Bettman sure likes it that way

so if things continue as they are, we'll have a Carolina/Buffalo and San Jose/Anaheim conference finals matchups.
Holy shit...now that is exciting. What hockey hotbeds!
