The Old Boa could not survive open two night a week, and let's face it, they always tried to bring in good talent over the two years they were in operation.

People in this town don't want to spend money on Cover like they do in other big cities...like Montreal for example and that could be a big problem for Sonic.

its true.. people here are quite cheap... theyd sell their grandma to get in free and save $10.

Yeah, but have you been to Stereo recently? It sounds really bad, and really hurts your ears.

For someone who sounds like he knows what he's talking about, you sure don't. Sonic will have to do A LOT of things right to be more than just a memory 4 years from now, considering the hold those other 2 serious after hours clubs have on this scene; and the number of choices clubbers are given week to week.

oh jems, i used mine last time at decadence (thx again tordan!) and let me tell u that there is nothing better than coming out of the club after 8 hours of pounding beats and being able to hear everything. and when going to sleep, ur not kept awake by the ringing in your ear.

ah...heaven

hahahaha...this is too funny, the club hasn't even opened yet and some of you are already proposing it's failure. Yeah he's cocky and arrogant in the article...but how would you be in promoting your club?..."yeah, the sound should be good"...."i hope we're as good as the competition"...etc.

His name as a DJ/producer speaks for itself as well as Stereo being an icon in the past/present...who wouldn't be a little cocky? Personally this article reassures me of Sonic living up to the hype it's been getting.

Posted by slingshot on Apr-25-2006 03:54:

regardless of whether or not some of you may consider his stuff "cheese"...the man has skill and is good at what he does. if this translates into sonic....we are in for a treat.

and for the record...i'm not really a fan of the guy at all...but i can respect his talent.

slingshots $0.02

I dont think we have had a venue in this city that justified spending $30 on a nightly basis to be honest. Montreal however, does. It's called Stereo. Infact, a lot of Toronto kids spend that kind of cover with ease at a venue like that because it delivers a quality that is unparallel. I think Sonic will deliver the same kind of experience, and will be successful on this factor alone.

Besides, cover charge is only $20 on regular nights, and $30 for headliner nights which is totally reasonable imo.

LOL...this really doesn't sound like David at all...in fact I can guarantee that the above are not his words. His words have definitely been taken out of context.

Since I started working closer with David back in November he has been nothing less than a true gentleman. He is extremely passionate about everything he does and truly wants to provide Toronto with a first class venue. He has said to me before...and I quote "You guys will have nothing but the best that money can buy...the best sound, lighting, everything."

I promise you that David doesn't think he is money, he doesn't even think much of his name. His vision is to create something wonderful for us in Toronto. It is not about money for him...just look at what he has done for Stereo. Stereo has always been about the music, sound, and lighting, and people congregating to have a good time. David's quest is creating a place for people to let go and live their life. David does not think about competing with any other club as what he is creating is something very personal.

If David was thinking solely of money he would just carry on DJing...this is a dream he has fantisized about for the past 30 years...again it is not about money.

David has played a number of venues in Toronto and will deliver a product far superior to anything this city has to offer...and I to will back that statement 100%. This city has never had a club owner as committed to creating an atmosphere as close to perfection as possible without even thinking of the bottom line.

We have all been working very hard...Nevio, David, Steven, Jennstar, all of us (including family and friends) have been here painting, building, cleaning and still continue to do so in order to get this place ready for this big weekend.

Despite what the media has to say, or what any of you have to say about the comments printed in the Metro, we all welcome you with open arms to join the Sonic family in the coming weeks, months, and years to come.

Its funny, because people don't seem to mind paying 20 bucks to get into the zone on a weekly basis, and something tells me this club may have a slightly nicer set up than the good ole hotel waverly basement.
I love the zone and don't mind paying the cash, so I highly doubt I'll mind paying for this place.

lol thanks tips, i kinda thought doing a lot of things right goes in general for any club hopeing to survive....how many clubs has toronto had opened by someone of a similar background? donno how people can fail the club before its even opened, especially when hes proven himself once, hes got the knowledge..finances.. and the market for another quality afterhours club is, definately, there...a good one just closed down didnt it? lol...
