Mr Bean crashes sports car

Rowan Atkinson has a love of high-speed sports cars

Comedian Rowan Atkinson has crashed the 650,000 sports car he bought to celebrate the success of his movie in the role of Mr Bean.
The front of the McLaren F1 supercar was wrecked in the collision with the rear of a Rover Metro in Lancashire at 1400 BST on Monday.

The star's brother says it is his first accident
The driver of the Metro, Margaret Greenhalgh, suffered minor whiplash injuries, while Mr Atkinson was unhurt in the accident on the A6 at Forton.

The star, also famous for his role as Edmund Blackadder in the eponymous TV series, reportedly asked police not to name him following the accident in the 230mph supercar.

Mr Atkinson's brother Rodney said the star - whose Mr Bean character drives a Mini rather than a high-powered sports car - was "an absolute fanatic" about cars.

He said: "The faster they are the more he likes them. He's a very good driver, there's no doubt about it, and this is the first accident I have heard of involving him.

"Obviously, we are relieved he is uninjured."

Mr Atkinson's sports car, which can travel from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds, is not the only prestige vehicle he has owned.

He has also driven Aston Martins, Rolls Royces, Lancias and Mercedes.

The McLaren car was delivered to his Oxfordshire home in 1997.

I have heard that before...you are right that the TT is definitely not everyones cup of tea. I am a huge fan...I would be an even bigger fan if it had a naturally aspirated engine that was not shared with other lesser cars...ahem...GTIs Jettas ahem...but I thinkits really unique and definitely a head turner. The interior for me has to be its biggest selling point...aluminum everywhere, leather, tiny leather covered Audi steering wheel...its so sweet. Can't wait to see the new S4s...the new A4 has a few TT ish interior styling touches...I bet the S4 will go above and beyond the call of duty and look pretty crazy...I would imagine some really nice leather seating and some beautiful aluminum accents....

Oh geez you HAVE to be kidding me..... this is your DREAM car? I can understand if someone likes this.... but hehhehehe.... a stock V6 accord? These things are a dime-a-dozen over here.... i'm so sick of them b/c every-other-car is either a Taurus or an Accord... and half of them (down here) are RICED out with big wheels, wings, graphics, and no engine mods (save for a muffler).

And that integra picture is total garbage!

Show me a clean Honda or Acura (no stickers), quiet exhaust, nice quick engine (B18C-R?), clean lightweight BIG wheels, and i'll show you a nice Ac/Honda.

The Skyline i likey....

.....oh shit, just realized you're not from america... no wonder you like the Accord! my bad dude, don't take it personally!

Not necessarily... those figures are those figures... I'd buy a YUGO if it put up figures like that.... add to that the fact that its semi-affordable (not like the $1-million dollar supercars).... and i think that it will sell-out of its limited-production run...

quote:
I am still a bit sore with VW since they keep building their cars more and more mainstream. The GTI as mentioned in another post is becoming more and more 'old man friendly' not what GTis have always stood for. And also, IMO they are becoming very very expensive given it is a 2 door Golf. Its an overweight hatchback...don't get me wrong I am liking the newer GTIs as a car...the price is extreme for what is being bought, I think. I as a consumer of a GTI would rather have VW cut the cost a bit and take out some of the BS options. Its 2 doors...I dont like power windows and door locks. Save that and give me a better designed exhaust system, a slightly more powerful rev happy engine, a more firm ride...something that will make me think I am driving a no-nonsense sporty car. My 2 cents.

This is the third post i've seen of you bitching about our cars, man. Dude, wake up!! If VW continue making the MkII GTI with no power windows, etc... they WOULD NEVER SELL ANY. All the competitors continue to update their engines, interiors, etc... and VW has to keep up (and hopefully) stay ahead of the game. Tell me a competitor that builds a sporty hatch with no power windows/locks/ etc? AND sells well? there isn't one... Its not just what one or two consumers out there want, its about whats going to make money. There are a LOT of cars i wished came in 5-speed but DON'T (see: Accord V6)..... but they apparently wouldn't be economically viable, thats why they aren't built.

I have a 2000 GTI VR6, and its my 3rd GTI... it is in NO way any less fun than my mark II or mark III.... It is just as fun, just a lot nicer...... how is this car overpriced (as you like to say)????? it sold for $22,500 brand new, it has automatic climate control (like mercedes and BMW's), it has a 28-position one-touch sunroof (BETTER than mercedes & BMW), 3 Auto-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, full leather interior & burlwood dash, fast VR6 engine, 6 airbags (driver, passenger, 2 side, 2 curtain), one-touch up/down windows WITH pinch-protection, a 300-watt Monsoon sound-system w/changer, and is great for long trips. The car competes with cars that cost a LOT more than it... its not "just a hatchback".... Its a hatchback with as many amenities as a 330Ci or C-class... but costs around 15,000 less. So where is the "overpriced" part? Some people think its overpriced b/c "its a VW".... well these people need to wake up... it's not 1988 anymore. The Corrado sold for more than my car did. And that was back in 1993. People need to stop complaining about prices based on marquee and start looking at substance. The same people complained the new Tiburon was severly overpriced.... they said "its just a Hyundai".... i said "screw you, its a sports car that LOOKS like a 550 maranello and has a high-output V6 with 6-speed manual tranny and 10-year warranty"..... i don't care who makes it.

Anyway, the new GTI is not built for the same purposes as the original MkI GTI, b/c that was during a time of the oil crisis... Light, economy-driven cars were the key back then. Now, most consumers want luxuries in the cars... If people (for some reason) prefer having a stripped-down car, they buy a USED one.

I can assure you as a former car salesman, i NEVER had someone ask me for a VW without power windows or power locks. I never heard someone complain that their GLX jetta came with climate control, one-touch sunroof, one-touch windows, full-size spare, etc....

VW is not meant as an economy-car manufacturer, they've clearly stated this many times in press conferences. They are entry-level luxury.... and the GTI is just as sporty as ever (in fact the newest GTI has better skidpad and higher slalom speed figures than the last 3 had....) so how is the new GTI "not as good" as the last 3? And like i said, i've had a gen II, gen III, and now the gen IV..... this gen IV was just as much fun as the gen II, only it is WAYYY more luxurious.... better for long trips.

I also can't understand why you don't like the fact that the TT has and engine that is "also in the Golfs/Jettas".... man what kind of elitist BS is that? FYI VW owns Audi, VW's designers penned the TT, VW engineers designed & built the 1.8T engine. Why does it have Audi-emblems stamped on the block? B/c VW had to release it under the Audi-name first so it would get proper respect from people like you, that like to discredit something JUST b/c of its' marquee....

Apologies to everyone else for the ranting, just had to tell this to mister "i hate VW's"

ABT, is THIS your kind of honda?

quote:
White in many cultures is the symbol for purity and perfection. Perched upon 18" Racing Hart CP035 wheels in white wrapped in Falken 215/35/18 and kept steady with the help of a Arospeed full coilover setup, Kevin's "Sinister99si" Si could be as close to PURE PERFECTION as anyone can get. The first thing that you notice is that this Si is white. Well then your second thought should be "Why, oh why, didn't Honda make the Si in white?" The side moldings and antenna have been shaved, and carbon fiber door pillars and Spoon carbon fiber mirrors work to compliment the white. Try not to kick the Mugen front lip as you pop the carbon fiber hood to see if this car is all show and no go. Yes... that is a Drag Generation III Turbo kit (T3/T4). Fuel duties are handled by a Walbro 255lph intank fuel pump, Vortech FPR 12:1, AEM (onrail) FPR, AEM fuel rail and RC Engineering 370cc injectors with some support from an Apex'i V-AFC and bolted into an ITR Intake manifold. Boost is kept under control by a HKS race wastegate and a HKS Super Sequential blowoff valve. The Tanabe Racing Medalion exhaust system gets gases out of the way while the HKS Turbo timer gives the turbo time to cool down. Ignition is helped out with a Jacobs Ice pack ignition system. Shall we see how well it runs.... Well as you climb into the Arospeed racing seats one of the first things you notice is the carbon fiber meters set into a dual guage bezel. The stereo is about as stock as the rest of the car. With Pioneer providing the AVX-P7000CD headunit/monitor, AVM-P9000R brain, DVD Player, and Gold 600Xti Amp. While the signal is Pioneer the sound is brought to you by 2 Kicker Solobaric subs (12"), Rockford Fosgate Fanatic X components and 6 1/2" Fantic Series full range speakers. What system would be complete without a "Sega Dreamcast" This is a classic example of what an all around car needs to be. Clean, well crafted, full of toys, and have a bit of boost to give it the go. Great job Kevin! -Club Si

mmmmm, mmmmmm............ shit that Civic is hella bad-ass....

YES i would drive that in a heart-beat. see? clean, no BS, and GOBS of power. That Civic bodystyle isn't my favorite, but with that paint job and no stickers and power... i'll take it.

My personal favorite design ever to come outta Honda/Acura N.A. was the 1993 Integra GSR... I just LOVE that bodystyle, and the interior was a LOT better than the newer integras IMO.... (friend had one). Really fun to drive too.

-ABT-

*edit: oh yeah i'd paint the hood white though... not into the carbon-fibre-different-color-hood thing....*

MMM... cars... i love em!.. fav cars would have to be the Lotus Elise (ive riden in one.. soooo quick).. Lotus 340R.. Mclaren F1, Mercedes SLR.. all awesome cars... but i'll be dreaming for the rest of my life..hahah.. The McLaren F1 rules... best car ever.. people say "naah its not" cos of the 1000BHP Bugatti n shit.. but the thing is, 1. The F1LM was built when?... 97?.. tahts wayyy ahead of its time for the performance.. 2. the weight difference, F1 only a bit of 1000kg.. 3. Bugatti have used 4 Turbos to reach 1000BHP.. the Mclaren is normally aspirated which is just amazing

my first that i want.. would have to be a Mini Cooper S and do that up... now those are cool cars. Spray it British racing Green with a white roof... mmmm... i cant wait..hahah... pity im past 6 foot now, i'll be very squashed

another thing... i aint a profressinal or anythin but i know whats shit.. and whats with people souping up Hyundai Exels?.. they are SHIT!.. hahah.. its just sad

sorry.. my two cents which is really just blabbering about cool cars which i'll never poses.. except maybe the Elise or Mini

yeah, I like the sleepers, ready to smoke all the $$$$$ cars right up to the ferrari. My fav is the 3rd Gen RX-7 R1. It's stock turbo almost matches the latest BMW's 0-60 that was posted in here. And this gen is like 8+ years old engineering.
